    Finally! A discussion about the 'how' of forgiveness. It's surprising that one of the key petitions of the Pater Noster has not been given more attention and energy by the teaching mission of the Church, the one petition which depends on our own initiative, the effort to forgive others! It's pretty important.

    I'm not a member of your faith. But I can still benefit from these words.
    Recently I have been angry at an individual for insulting my faith. He is intolerant. I lacked the humility to walk away.
    My anger deepened. I knew I should walk away. I didn't. I want to be at peace. I don't want to be angry with this individual.. additional contact would only add fuel to the fire. Mutual peace is not possible.
    Edit: being a prisoner. Exactly. I know what you mean.
    I went through and deleted my comments and I already feel the results of being set free...

    It’s awesome that our brother Matt allows Father Greg to take publish a video and just go for it. So cool. Thanks Matt and Father and Almighty Father!! I confess to Almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters that I’m yet to finish the video. But so far (ie 4ish mins) one thing is clear: Father Pine’s thoughts are deep. It’s quite beautiful that Father can articulate, with clarity and brevity, his thoughts. Father offers intellectually stimulating thoughts that probe the mind to think harder and deeper. And is this done for the object of mere attainment of wisdom? No. This is done to glorify the source of wisdom and knowledge itself, Our Father in Heaven, by seeking to Love Him more ‘nearly and dearly’. And to practically live this wisdom out is a sure step in loving the Lord Our God ‘with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength’. Thanks so much Father Greg for sharing your gifts with us!! God bless you all friends 😃

    It is grieving that some of us hold onto our resentments against those who have hurt us for so so so long. We see this and it's really painful when it is between those who used to be very close :( :( :(

    That said, I can't thank Fr. Pine enough for this discussion! The only thing I would like to add, as an extra, to the 'how' of forgiveness is this. That I have found the most POWER to forgive an injury by turning my mind and heart to Our Lord, with the image of Him on the cross, or proclaiming the kingdom in His earthly ministry, and reflecting that He came and laid down His life for both me and the other fallen human being from whom I received the injury. In that mental prayer I have no problem falling to my knees and letting go with tears of gratitude; and then I totally understand the woman washing His feet with her tears.
    Yes, forgiveness is an act of the will, NOT a bunch of feelings, but as long as we keep our "eyes" on Him, that's what matters. I recall Saint Peter walking on the water toward Him until...

    I like this principle, of hope, the hick ups and plateaus , but Christ who began the work in us will see us through. Thank you!! For restoring this hope in me... I love you for that

    Father, for as much as you thought it was too long, your vocation story was one of the most delightful parts to listen to, and a great witness. I share a similar love for the same subjects you mentioned and listening to your gift for rhetoric and speech on theological matters is like listening to beautiful music! I notice such a common gift in analytical minds. Thank you for your "Yes" to the priesthood! :)

    Hey Fr. Pine! On the board question, since no good can be done through it and its purpose is not separated but opposed to the Faith, and not a mere tool like a knife and a gun, i would have argued that one SHOULD in fact destroy the object. Also, since no evil or sin is private, why does the doctrine of self defense does not apply? Once more: how about St. Boniface vs. Thor's Tree?

    What if the person does something illegal - a felony they committed against you and you take legal action. Can you forgive and take legal action against them at the same time? I pray this person will realize the wrong they did, that they KNOW how it hurt us and want to change so she can be ready to enter the kingdom of God. I know if these things happen, it will be as if she never hurt us, because she will not be that person who is capable or want to hurt us as she did.

    How can our Likeness be most in forgiveness when we were created in that likeness PRIOR to the fall? Was this a guess, father?
    This Likeness is in the granted authority and accountability in our power to bring down and/or nurture that which was placed under our stewardship. The thief took this by speaking lies, in that loveless act.

    • @Zematus737
      @Zematus737 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @LockedLogic I appreciate your attempt to make sense of father Pine's opinion. In the gospels we see that the sons of men are often more forgiving than the sons of light when dealing with each other (Luke 16:8). So, in continuing to say that we share a likeness in forgiveness won't that mean that many of the angels are DISSIMILAR to God in their slowness to forgive?
      Our likeness is probably MOST present and evident in the symbol and function of the family and in participating in the creation of new life in marriage. I should have said that first, though the aspects of God may of course be many, including the ability to suffer and be put to death.

    • @Zematus737
      @Zematus737 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @LockedLogic I would also stay far away from any comparison to likeness in God as synonymous with free will and the option to choose, since you would, without a doubt, include every rebellious figure with such a statement. Or any other creature that can clearly decide on one thing from another.

    According to our apostle paul’s ministry in The King James Bible,we are only saved by believing The Gospel of Jesus Christ,1st Corinthians Chapter 15 verse 1-4.Jesus Christ died on the cross,shed His Blood for all of our sins,was buried and rose again on the third day.Jesus Christ Shed Blood is what saves you when you believe this plan of salvation with your heart.Romans 3:25.
