What I love about Bernard Manning, and I suppose it's with most entertainers of any sort, is the audience reaction. Always loved Bernard, as he stated they were only jokes, would make fun out of anything, including himself. He had a smooth delivery, was born to do this. Thanks for the upload.

Wow nice one. I remember watching this actual bit when it was originally aired. So good that people still have the old recordings and are prepared to share them.
Let me tell you something, Bernard's club was in a deprived area of Manchester and still is, in a very mixed community, if they had believed he was a "racist " he would have been lynched a long time ago, I'm one of the minorities he regularly uses in his act, i have no issues.
Seen Mr Manning live,kings theatre Glasgow outstanding.people seem to forget how much of a true gentleman he was,and the money in which he gave to charity.

His neighbour was a doctor of indian origin. He ( manning) would often talk about the friendship that existed between them. He TOLD racist jokes but he WASN'T racist, if anyone can understand.

The only English comedian I've seen who's been anywhere near the level of Manning has been Bob Monkhouse in his later years : "It got up to 94 degrees today. At my age, that's not bad". Funny is funny. I grew up watching Bernard, Roy Chubby, Lenny, Charlie Williams. I found them all to be funny in their own unique way and as long as they made me laugh, I didn’t give a dam about their politics. And that’s what comedy should be about 🤓
I first saw Lenny Henry from north Wales on Midland TV mid 1970s TISWAS, funny extremely talented guy watching the show. I bet He really enjoyed watching Bernard on the show for God’s sake Lenny. I know you come from the black country but don’t hold it against the British by the way, he is from Dudley and it actually is called the black country.👌🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧

it makes me a bit pee'd off when some of today's lefty wokerati put their modern ideas on the past and tell us how 'unenlightened' we were - i'd have those times back in a flash, at least we knew the difference between a girl, a boy and a cat, and the only blokes you saw wearing dresses were on monty python. most kids i hung out with in the late 70's onwards supported stuff like rock against racism, but we could still laugh at jokes that involved other races. If there's no intent to deliberately insult then no real harm imho, and when we used to drink in caribean clubs in leeds and bradford we got our fair share of nobbling back, but at the end of the day apart from a few incidents people generally rubbed along ok together.
So, Lenny Henry, laughing? But it was in the past so doesn't matter.

Bernard was brought in to replace Alexei Sayle when Alexei was hooked by ITV for going OTT on a heckler. Two very different characters. Bernard was one of Britain's best ever comedians. Alexei - *the* best.

Not every joke Bernard said was racist or politically incorrect. Here's one I heard him say:
A guy's walking down a beach when he sees a stall which reads, "Seagulls for sale only £1.50".
The guy thinks, "£1.50? Wow that's cheap. I'll have one". He goes over to the stall holder and pays him £1.50.
After the transaction, the guy says, "thanks, but where's my seagull?
The stallholder says, "up there in the sky"

I had the misfortune of working with Manning for several months. He would delight in humiliating and belittling the staff at every venue and he was a horrible bully. The man was foul.
