I always loved the 80's more than any other time, i think it was the best era for heavy metal. I loved the selection of songs that you did. Awesome video.
Man that brought back memories. There is great metal today still being written. But nothing, nothing will ever have the chunky heavy riffs of the 80s. Wish I hadn't grown old. 🤟
That Carvin is BEAUTIFUL! I just sold off my Custom Shop Ultra V. A dude in New Zealand came VERY close to my ridiculous asking price. "Easy come, Easy go". Great set of videos man! Between you and Ben Eller I have learned SO much! Sincerely appreciate it!🤘
All my fav riffs. What a coincidence? You even know Lillian Axe, Blue Murder, Babylon A.D, Dangerous Toys, Leatherwolf and stuff. Very good. The tone is perfect for 80s riffs. I enjoyed it a lot! Special thanx for White Lion! Though I wish you'd include some Fifth Angel, House of Lords, Firehouse, Danger Danger, Warrant, Extreme, Poison, Mr Big (ah well you have Racer X), Sleeze Beez, Faster Pussycat, Kix, Trixter, Shotgun Messiah, Signal, Giant, Blue Tears.
I remember Y&T mean streak from Nascar 2000 to bad that game disc was scratched because it's an excellent game with a great soundtrack from blues traveler.
Thanks! I like a lot of players-from the usual suspects of VH, Rhoads, Malmsteen and Lynch to Michael Schenker, Vinnie Moore, John Sykes and Eric Gales…and many more! 🙂
Love the 80s. People realized guitar can be also a great rhythm/percussion instrument but still mainly a melody instrument! I believe this is what is missing to todays heavy metal!
Nice choice of riffs Nick! If I could pick just 2 ,say lesser known riffs, I would of liked to hear Accepts midnight mover, and Riots Flight of the warrior. Awesome playing by the way, ticks me off I can't play that dam first riff in modern day cowboy. Ugh! Lol
Badass playing big dog, was cracking up when I realized the Camaro Strat says Chubtone on the headstock, that shit is awesome! You rip dude love the channel!
Great video. Very clean playing. I tend to play with a lot of distortion and high trouble, but your sound sounds awesome. What do you usually have your settings at? Do you use overdrive pedal in addition to the distortion that's on the amp itself?
Hi, thanks for watching. I actually don’t use a ton of gain, helps keep the signal cleaner. I’ll usually set my amp to a moderate level of gain, AC/DC ish and then hit it with a boost pedal or something like a Boss SD-1 to bring me into hard rock and metal territory, but even then the amount of gain I’m using is not overboard. I can still hear all the notes of my chords for example. I also don’t like a super treble heavy sound, so I’ll boost mids instead and keep the treble about half way up. Hope that helps!
Just saw this video and it took me back to my practice days in the bedroom😅 before my Tripple X band days. You chop wood pretty good there Axe slinger. God bless🙏❤🙏
Yes I make my own backing tracks. A lot of my older lessons, especially solos, have backing tracks you can download. For the newer stuff I’ve started to include backing for riffs and solos over on my Patreon page. I might go back through some of the older riff lesson and make some backing tracks for those too on Patreon. Check it out, it’s only $5 a month.
What a nice collection of awesome guitar riffs, one after another after another! 😄 ... Awesome! Good job! ...and, I know that I have already written this in my yesterday's comment, but I cannot avoid to repeat it: what a guitar tone! Great! ...and the part of Jason's comment regarding today's music is sad but true, sadly... Of course, there could be still something good... But nothing compared to those (distant ☹️) times! I hope that some young guitarists will try to learn from this video and discover those great bands! ...so thank you for your very good work! Keep the Fire burning! 🔥 Greetings from Italy!
why even do this with no tabs? we want to learn new chords and licks we need tabs. we have are own albums we can listen to you know. were are the real teachers who put tabs on screen so we a least pick up our guitars and play along. I dont care what you can do by showing off really, there are concerts on youtube for that. you want views? put tabs on screen, you will get millions of views.
If you would have read the description in the video you would know that all of these riffs have separate videos WITH TAB. But you were too lazy to read that the video was simply a celebration of all the videos I had done for 30 days straight so people could watch it and be inspired. Not that your comment deserves an answer, but that is why I did this video…if you want the TAB for each look them up on my channel…I even created a freaking playlist for them. Unbelievable!
"Lay it down" is STILL one of the greatest riffs ever written. I mean, it just never gets old.
Agreed!
I always loved the 80's more than any other time, i think it was the best era for heavy metal. I loved the selection of songs that you did. Awesome video.
Thanks!
awsome selection of riffs and well played,,todays music isnt nowhere near this good
Thank you!
I guess people of the 50s said the same thing of 80s music.
Sports and music tastes is something you Acquire is your teenager/early adulthood years.
We have to continue, or it will die...long live Rock and Roll
@@horestramaybe so. But in terms of how objectively complex mainstream music is today, there absolutely no comparison.

Man, the tone on every song is spot on. And awesome playing. Brings back a lot of memories hearing all these. 🤘

Thanks for the summary. Somehow I had overlooked the Lillian Axe riff, one of my favorite songs by them. This is like a whole candy store of riffs 😊🎸🤘
Wow that tone! loved it. What pickups are you using, are they DiMarzio super distortion?
Thanks! DiMarzio Tone Zone.
Amazing playing and curation! May I ask how you get your 80s guitar tone? Is that a Helix effects unit you have? Thanks )
Thanks! Back then I was using the HeadRush board.
