Nick, I can't thank you enough for your outstanding craftsmanship in rebuilding my hemi. (Also thanks for finding those loose lug nuts!) It was a pleasure meeting you and I look forward to coming up to pick up the car when you give me the thumbs up. This video will be playing continuously in my garage.(Nice camera work George!) While the final product of your work is amazing, the journey in getting here has been an even bigger reward for me. Glad it also brought back some good memories for you too!
I rescued a 1966 hemi charger from my uncle’s collection when I was 16. Paid 1,200 for it . I’m 58 and still have it . Bit of a rare one . 4 speed . Radio delete . He bought it new black on black .
Hi Nick & George. I'm a big fan of the LS series engine too. I just loved the Dyno run on the LSX. It mad a ton of HP even normally aspirated. Those numbers plus adding the supercharger will make that Caddy fly. You just never know what you will see on Monday's video on Nick's Garage, the best channel on TH-cam!!! The road test on the 71 Hemi Cuda Convertible was awesome, and I really enjoyed watching you put her to the test. I loved seeing the pics of your 71 Hemi Cuda, and especially all the hair you had back then. There is nothing like the sound of the Hemi Humble. R.I.P. Barry.
@@NicksGarage I loved the new camera angles that you used during the video, especially the super slow motion of the rear tire that showed the loose lug nuts. That was a good catch for sure. I agree with you about Nick's hair, lol. He would be a serious contender in a best hair contest.
At the 19:50 mark.... "the clock is working, but who cares what time it is." He's giving the hemi engine some exercise on the street in front of his shop, and his chuckling is coming from deep inside of him. Its a good day at Nick's Garage.
Nick, when you displayed the picture of your 71 Hemi Cuda, I finally realized that the Hemi Cuda I used to see near my home on St.Joseph and Park Ave back in the 80’s and 90’s may be yours. There was also a blue 70 Blue AAR, a 71 Boss351 and a black 67-68 firebird that I would also see every so often in my old neighbourhood around the same time. I fell in love with muscle cars back in the mid 70’s after Fernie and his white 73 Trans Am would do burnouts down Esplanade and Mount Royal to impress his girlfriend who lived in the same triplex as I did.
Nick, thanks for this today, June 6th is my Dads birthday. He would've been 61 today. Hes been gone since 2009. I love all cars but am a GM guy as I grew up with the LT/LS cars, BUT MY DAD was a Mopar man through and through. I still have some of the RT, and Superbee emblems, as well as an original pistol grip shifter of his I get out to show my own kids from time to time, and my pictures of him in a 66 Charger. He had quite a few different Mopars but that 66 was beautiful. Im sorry about Barry, he left an amazing piece of cinema for us that will be watched for decades to come. Keep em smokin!

The Hemi Cuda looks stunning in the sun. Ray has a gorgeous car! Well done Nick and team and George another awesome video. The slow-mo footage looks so good ( albeit lug nuts ). Good to spot it. Saddened to hear of Barry Newman passing 🙏❤ 93 was a good age. R.I.P Kowalski.
Those Trimec 5 speeds are a great item. My brother has a 71 Nova 427 (BUILT) with 3.73 gears. He was getting 14 mpg (Imperial, we're in Canada) with a 4 speed. He installed a Trimec 5 speed and now gets 18 mpg on the highway.
I love this video with a great car! A friend of mine had a Hemi Cuda back in the 70's, what a car, and what an engine! You never get tired of the performance!
A guy the next street over had a Charger when I was a kid. He smoked the tires for about 5 telephone poles, the cops showed up, measured the burnout and arrested him.
Dana "60" Glass. Sad news about Barry Newman's passing. Us motorheads remember his great work in Vanishing Point, but he was a very talented actor, and had great rolls on both tv and movies. Loved the show Petrocelli among other projects. Prayers to family and friends.
The Cuda Convertible runs amazing. I love watching Nick putting these cars through the final test before delivery to the customer. Nick’s quality of work is always outstanding!
I'm still blown away every time I see Nick's shop. Every video is just perfect and the stars of the show - Nick and the cars - is a must see every time. Thanks Nick and team !
Once a gear head always a gear head right nick ? I'm with ya brother. I'm nearly 63 years old and still enjoying acceleration and speed. My ride nowadays is a Yamaha FJR1300a. It'll hit 60 from a stop in under 3 seconds, and tops out at 154 mph. When I was a young guy my toy of choice was a 1981 camaro with a four speed. I bought it with 8000 miles on the odometer. It was a Berlinetta, but a four speed with a 305 small block. First thing I did was to yank out the wimpy 1981 305 and the Borg Warner T-10. I had an old 365 horsepower 327 that came out of a 1968 corvette. I found it at a local salvage yard. What luck ! The block had spider web cracks from having the watered downed coolant freeze in it. I bought the engine for a hundred bucks, stripped it, had it boiled, then I stop drilled each crack leg on the outside, and then arc welded from the inside to the outside of each leg. Then I bored the block. It didn't appear to have a lot of miles on it, so we bored it .010, went back in with a new set of stock forged pistons. My buddy use to work for a guy that, drag raced Chevy rat motors for years. I gave him the heads and he ported and polished those old double hump beauties, then rebuilt them with hardened seats, and stainless valves back up by double valve springs. I had a local speed shop check each rod, and then balance each piston and rod assembly. My camaro received Z28 leaf springs in the back, along with a modified 12 bolt rearend. I installed Lakewood traction bars to keep those leaf springs from letting the rearend windup and hop. The T-10 got swapped out for an old Muncie M21 that I bought from a guy. The tranny was broken when I bought it, in fact the input shaft had a slight twist in it. I'd given the guy $125 for the transmission, and I went through the whole thing, I think it ended up costing me about $700 all together, but it was better than new. I remember thinking how funny it was. I had a set of 3.23 gears in that rearend. It was a possy unit. The car had an 80 mph speedometer....... You can imagine how easily it got pegged. It did have a tachometer, and I drove the car from Peoria, Illinois to Las Vegas to go visit friends. I was going through Utah on long flat expanses of interstate highway. I opened it up one time and judging by the tach I hit 143 mph and it wanted to keep going. My tach was nearly pegged too. I had a set of Goodyear aramid fiber police duty tires on it. At the time I was working for a Goodyear tire store in Peoria, and we did tire and alignment service on the Illinois state police cars that were from a local precint. BTW, I had the opportunity to work on a late 70's (don't remember the year exactly), but late 70's Dodge Polara state police car. It had a 440 lean burn system, but a built cop car engine. The state cop told me "it seems like it's just falling on it's face over 90 mph. I ended up replacing the main coil wire and coil. The cop told me when I asked how fast it would go, he said, "I chased a kid down that was speeding on a Kawasaki motorcycle. I hit 126 mph". I really miss my old pony car, Nick. Enjoying your videos sir, Thanks.
I don't know who works harder... Nick or George. The video quality and editing are just as consistently outstanding as Nick's top-level efforts. The content and presentation never disappoints and always surpasses expectations. And as for that Cuda... it leaves me speechless. I can't talk when my jaw is on the floor and I'm drooling.
Well I tell you what Nick the way you all had them camera setup and that Cuda I mean my gosh I think this was probably the best test drive I think I've ever seen I mean that car is beautiful and man it reminds me of when I was 17 years old with my 69 Coronet RT my gosh Nick I have Goosebumps all over me when you were test driving that thing thank you thank you thank you it reminds me of the old days buddy thank you again that felt good
That sure does bring back memories. I bought a B5 blue 71 Cuda brand new for $4495. It wasn't the hemi. it had the Super Commando 383 with a 4 speed, 3.91 limited slip rear, I installed a Racer Brown Purple cam and 11/1 heads. That car could run low 13's! That Hemi Cuda Convertible is beautiful and sounds great. You did a fantastic job on that car. Thanks so much for sharing.
RIP KOWALSKI. Vanishing Point was one of my favorite movies. Nice numbers on that LSX. George, as always your camera work is on point. Beautiful `Cuda. When released, I was a freshman in high school. Nick, I`m ALWAYS ready to go for a drive.👍
That convertible was beautiful. Nick it was nice getting to see how good Eugene's charger turned out underneath as well. Thanks again, Nick made my summer
Boy tell you George when you were filming those loosen lug nuts the way you filmed it was absolutely righteous man a slo-mo burnout like that that was cool
The Light Blue Cuda , is beautiful !!! Beautiful in the sun and WOW ON THAT HEMI !!!! NICK , Yall gave it a good work out and the Hemi sound great . Always Love George's Carb Cam ...The Hemi had so much toque could tell Nick was letting off the gas .. One Mean Blue Machine . Hello to everyone one .
The more I watch the more I want to just conduct some insane experiments using terrible engines. We'll see if I can work something out in the near future. For now though, you get all kinds of gems rolling through your shop lately, it's a fascinating watch. I'm starting to wonder about seeing a 59 Miller-Meteor with the big Caddy 500. We may never know. I had since last commented checked into my grandfather's own Cuda story and as it turned out it really was just one turbo on a slant six. The car was stopped doing 168 mph (270kph) in a then 60-70mph (96-112kph) speed zone and even then they were let off because pregnant woman in the back seat. The officer ended up leading the way to the hospital. Everyone and every thing was a very different breed back then.
Dr. Nick, I said to myself on that 2nd liftoff that the right rear tire did a wiggle, Ray is one lucky guy, awesome camera work George, one more thing, ,I still think about that 1962 Red Galaxy from Saturday, cheers.
1971 was T HE PRETTIEST cuda made. Mopar made a LOT of beautiful cars. I do not know who was in charge of the style department. but he had GREAT TASTE!
Had a 71 Cuda myself 4 speed pistol grip 440 Magnum slightly built up it was maroon in color all factory except intake cam and headers also a a 3.91 rear in it. Man I miss that car. If I knew then what I know now I would still have it LOL.
Nick you’re the man I know a couple good mechanics but if I ever get the money to build me a Mopar pro street you’re my engine man so please take good care of yourself you’re not replaceable
A B5 Blue Hemi Cuda Convertible and a Dyno test, a 2fr day! Putting it to the test and WHAA WHAA.....WHAAAAA! Damn, I gotta shiver down my spine! Another fine example of American Muscle from Nick's Garage.
Hi Nick and George !!! Now that was a very good video of VINTAGE MUSCLE 💪💪💪 .. Both engines sounded Great on the Dyno and the HEMI CUDA .. Nick I never got into DODGE before until I FOUND YOU... I really enjoy you rebuilding OLD SCHOOL MUSCLE 💪 reminds me of my past too and all the different cars I owned but not 1 dodge product ... The HEMI in the CUDA you performed OLD SCHOOL MUSCLE 💪 back into from your past over 50 years ago ... I got to say YOU REALLY HAVE A TALENT NICK and if I did have a dodge product and needed repair YOUR THE MAN NICK... I hope you do more of videos like this one coming up!!! FROM YOUR FRIEND THE BANDIT... WHO LOVES YA BABY ???????
when you kick one and it goes right, I always get a kick out of the chuckle you get , It's all too clear your a man that enjoys and takes pleaser in your work👍
Nice job fixing the car. I put a TKX 5 speed in my car last winter. It replaced the original manual 3 speed. Found it odd to hear the gears whine but after hearing them in the video, I guess it's normal. The 3 speed was very quiet. RPM's dropped about 900 at 60 mph in overdrive. Thanks for all the great videos. You have an excellent editing crew !! Best Regards - Mike
Car runs good and looks great! The 30 years of the in that lsx really shows in those dyno results. You are going to have to get a hellcat type engine to dyno to show what the newer hemis can do. 🙂
RIP Barry Newman.....would've been nice if Nick had had a chance to meet him and show him the car. But, Kowalski lives!!! Enjoyed the live show from Saturday, looks like everyone really enjoyed themselves!!! That Cuda convertible just shreds those poor tires😂😂 Looking forward to getting up there to see you guys 😊 Great week, all!!!
hey Ray, I know your town very well, a old friend of mine lived off Dutton Rd, and my Family lived next store in Hudson Mass, on Boone lake, when I was very young.
Wow that one really goes. You guys I can't help but think about that '71 Hemi 'cuda that sold just north of us in Seattle 2014 for 3.5 million at Mecum auction. That one had a black top and blue interior....I think I would rather drive that one belonging to Mr Phillips....great job Nick!!
Hi Nick! HEMI memories, a Buddy & I went to see another Buddy run his '71 340 Demon 👿 run 11:43. There was a '70 Road Runner in the Staging area.White with Black Trim , it ran Slowed than the other car but that's not the End. The Road Runner Busted something at the End of the Track ! Oh No ! HEMI ROADRUNNER Threw a Rod or Spun a Bearing as it past the Lights at the End ! Smoke & a Large noise Smoke EVERWHERE it was Done. We told each other What a Waste HEMI done. My neighbor had a '68 & ' 69 SS CHEVELLE. One was his dad's. End the back His house 🏠 was a '68 firebird 400 he build up ' ! Race Ready Aluminum Intake Edelbrock & Holley carb, Race cam. I learned Alot following him & his GM Buddies. I really like your Channel appreciate it. Thanks Nick.
THANKS Nick & Guy's at the Garage! Seeing that Cuda' brought back memories that color was the same as the Challenger & that was the year my 383 Cuda' was. It hurts to Sell it & my Road 🛣️ Runner buddy lost it when I sold it too. Best wishes good luck 🤞 Guys!
Hope you don't have any HEMI come to your Shop like that! Take care , I like your Channel Nick thank you & your Staff. I had a hard time getting my main caps off my 351c, I was on the Garage floor with a breaking Bar, my Uncle tossed a Pipe steel to use as leverage. One by one the Main Caps off the Crankshaft cam off. Sometimes you can learn something from Mentors.
Wow just wow Nick that 71 Cuda sure looked as fantastic as it sounded and at idle it was so so sweet man. I had a similar problem once many years ago now with rear wheels rubbing on wheel arches and turned out to be wheel & diff bearings Nick once sorted all good. That Cadi on the dyno will be a screamer I reckon. Awesome video George.
Absolute badassery! That car must be a pleasure to drive & shift with a Tremec 5-speed trans in it, the old New Process 4-speed reminded me of driving a garbage truck, but that was all we had to work with way back when. Excellent workmanship, Nick, it is a gorgeous car for sure! Tell Ray to drive it like he stole it, it runs hard!
What a Gorgeous and powerful Hemi Cuda! Ray you are one lucky man to own this beautiful car! Nick and George what a great video! The Chevy engine dyno was awesome as well!
I been on you about the LSX in the background. It's technically not Ls1 if it's an LSX which that block and heads is LSX if that's the one that been in the background....thanks nick and crew

That Galaxy was monumental.
1971 was T HE PRETTIEST cuda made. Mopar made a LOT of beautiful cars. I do not know who was in charge of the style department. but he had GREAT TASTE!
💯 🚗💨
71 hemi cuda is my dream car, great work man
R.I.P. Mr. Barry Newman
Legend.
😔 I didn’t know he passed. R.I.P. Kowalski.
I also remember watching him in "Petrocelli" a million years ago.
@@jeffreyrubish347 me too
nick...."ICON"‼️®️™️
I have always been a GM man, but I still can appreciate the late 60's and early 70's Mopars.
That's it! Nick should recreate his 71 Cuda with the 528.
That hemi is running great and that is 1 of 7 built.
Thanks for the ride ! 👍
Had a 71 Cuda myself 4 speed pistol grip 440 Magnum slightly built up it was maroon in color all factory except intake cam and headers also a a 3.91 rear in it. Man I miss that car. If I knew then what I know now I would still have it LOL.
Love that Cuda, great sounding awesome Blue color. 💙 love it when Nick said clock works but who cares.
Love the Hemi cuda one beautiful ride
Nick you’re the man I know a couple good mechanics but if I ever get the money to build me a Mopar pro street you’re my engine man so please take good care of yourself you’re not replaceable
Thé 1971 is the nicest cuda.
A B5 Blue Hemi Cuda Convertible and a Dyno test, a 2fr day! Putting it to the test and WHAA WHAA.....WHAAAAA! Damn, I gotta shiver down my spine! Another fine example of American Muscle from Nick's Garage.
That's one SPECIAL car! Congrats Raymond. George, your camera work just gets better and better. GREAT catch on those loose lug nuts! PHEW!!!!!
Man... That cuda gets down! Nice job Nick!
WHO LOVES YA BABY ???????
when you kick one and it goes right, I always get a kick out of the chuckle you get , It's all too clear your a man that enjoys and takes pleaser in your work👍
You got that right!
Hi Nick and all the crew.Saturdays show was great, wanted to meet you but there were so many people.congratulations on a super get together 👍
Sorry you could not get a handshake, John. We hope you can come by some other time.
hey Ray, I know your town very well, a old friend of mine lived off Dutton Rd, and my Family lived next store in Hudson Mass, on Boone lake, when I was very young.
Small world.
@@NicksGarage true, and as we get older the world gets smaller .
Thanks for the comment Eric! Come on back and I'll buy you lunch at the Wayside Inn!
Awesome show good job Nick on building the engine for that awesome cuda keep them coming and see you Friday
nice to see a hemi from my hone state. I will have to keep my eye out at car shows for this bad boy.
Love the Cuda! Love white interiors. Beautiful machine!
We agree!
Sorry to hear about the Hemi Road Runner.
Not just for GM lover's. For V8 lover's ! Hell yes
71 Cuda rocks
Right on.
That's the same stereo radio that came in my 70 six pack Challenger I had in high school.
Nick, I had a 440 built in NJ by Charlie Weston of Weston Machine and he installed the FastFish rear main seal and it does the job.
Good to hear!
The E bodies do a great job of making wide front tires look at home in those wheel wells. This car is stunning! Thanks for a great video
The power Steering was great in '71 Cuda' my 383 Never had problems maneuver!
She sounds awesome!!
The 5 speed Tremec is probably the best mod possible for this car.
Nick, you build a Hemi Cuda like the one you had, that would be so cool!
Maybe one day.
With that much power it's a wonder that snap all five of them wow that looks like a lot of play
Nick needs an uncluttered strip to test on.
Thanks Nick
Central California watching
That's a beautiful car. A world apart from todays cars.
Thanks Blinkie! 👍
Will like to see final result.
Will it have an intercooler ? Water meth injection ?
Will need cooler sparkplugs too.
Thank you, I absolutely agree!
What a Gorgeous and powerful Hemi Cuda! Ray you are one lucky man to own this beautiful car! Nick and George what a great video! The Chevy engine dyno was awesome as well!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks so much!
happy to see an N/A carbureted LS for a change. 😁
LSX on old school setup nice.😁👍
These cars were meant for NHRA Super Stock. The original HEMI cars had aluminum K-frames.
Evenin Mr Nick! Have a Great week!
Thanks, you too!
That Blue hemi is awsome.
That Cuda is a weapon 👍🏻🇦🇺
This is exactly where the 538 should go. A 71 like this.
I'm not a Chevy guy however I would be lieing if I didn't say that that thing sounds awesome ❤
Sir Nickolas...the Cudas wheel studs moved when you did the burnout in slo mo...check it...
I been on you about the LSX in the background. It's technically not Ls1 if it's an LSX which that block and heads is LSX if that's the one that been in the background....thanks nick and crew
Hope you enjoyed.
He just used the ls1 coil pack for the dyno.
@@ther1guy cool deal
One Bad Fish. Iconic.
Beautiful car. Well done guys 👍
Thank you! 👍
