Was trying to learn the chord voicings just by listening to the song and just could not quit get it. I like to think I am a good guitar player. I turned to the internet and every chord chart was clearly lacking. Your video is spot on and you are a great teacher. I was able to fast forward to your positions and learn it quickly. Thanks!
What a great tutorial. Went through a few and stuck with yours because i could tell you really enjoyed making and playing it. The singing is top notch to really understand whats going on! After 20 minutes i had it down and could play it pretty freely. Thanks a bunch! :)
This joint right here was requested by the drummer so I must learn it. After watching many videos, yours rules! Sounds closest to original. Easy to follow, you’re a great instructor. Thanks for your hard work, it has helped me a ton!
First time I’ve seen one of your tutorials but this is excellent. As soon as I’ve got this down I’ll check out some more, so I’ll see you in about ten years. Please don’t take that as a criticism of your teaching.
Thanks E Dog - I really appreciate that. I always have fun doing these videos and it's really great to hear from people who are enjoying them. My best to you - Cheers! Shane
Thanks so much. I imagined this would be a daunting undertaking but you really broke it down in a way that made it much less intimidating to tackle. Blessings to you, friend!
Thank you for sharing. Real simple instructions. I find it easier to bar the G at the chorus and go down on the neck for the rest of the chords. Also a bit more articulate. Thank you once again
I believe there's actually two different parts in this song! listening back I can hear some different voice leading going on. There's almost an ascending melody that goes up throughout that intro part- maybe it's an electric clean guitar layered over the acoustic part?
If you want to know whether someone can really sing ask them to sing a Paul Simon number! You nail it as usual Shane and I would die for your voice. Sadly I sing like an angry polar bear but I still loved this lesson so thank-you so much. By the way, your patreon link do east seem to be a “live” link. Not sure if you intended it to be or not?
A big thank you Johnnny - I really appreciate your encouragement and am very glad to have you here with us. I'll look into why that Patreon link is not active. Thanks! Shane
Really cool to see a fingerstyle lesson. I was a little confused about which strings to play, though. Does he play the four lowest available strings or does he play the lowest available string with his thumb and the three highest strings with this fingers? Sorry if that's not worded well.
Great question Airburst1 - thanks for that and sorry if it wasn't clear on the video. I'm using my right hand thumb on the lowest note of each chord and my first, second, and third fingers on the top three strings - unless the high E string has an X in the chord diagram - then I move the right hand fingers to the D G and B strings. Hope that helps you - Cheers! Shane
I just learned this last week from Paul Simon 's acoustic masters for guitar. I bought 3 different PS books and many book have wrong chords. For example, on American Tune on book or TH-cam video will use a C7 instead of a C9 which makes a big difference. On this video, the only problem I had was playing the F#m6. In the book it uses the same D#dim7 which slides up to the F#m6 to a B7aug which I didn't see on yours. TH-cam tutorial is good but slow down talking. I talk fast and have been called motor mouth .
The first chord is wrong lol. It is not a G6, it is an Em/G. They have the same notes, but it's very important to differentiate, because the song is in e minor and that first chord is the tonic chord.
Man you know I bought that 814ce and didnt like way it sounded. Still don't like the way it sounds! I'm glad I stuck with the 414ce. Much warmer in my ears opinion. Great channel and playing man! Sub'd.
