Excellent job. Well edited and researched. I purchased a '76 TR6 in '81 to drive to college. I took my future wife on our first date in the TR6. True to form, Lucas, the prince of darkness, came to visit. The starter servo would not spin the engine after we topped up the petrol. She volunteered to push start the car after feeling the clutch. Did not phase her in the least. The car started and we went on our way. Still have the wife. Still have the TR6.
@@mgmidget-thebirthofaraceca4349 Yes sir, and keeping that thing operational on an undergraduate's income should have garnered me a degree in automotive engineering.
I loved watching this video. We bought a new Triumph TR6 with a removable hard top in 1973. She cost $4500 plus $500 for the hard top. I learned to drive a 4 speed on that car. We found that it had a very unforgiving clutch. Many of our friends could not get her to start because it seemed they didn’t press the clutch pedal completely to the floor. The driver could not be sloppy about that! That was comical! I was a 23 year old girl and never had a problem with the clutch. Starting on a cold morning meant pulling the choke out completely, then slowly releasing. Otherwise, she would stall. I loved that car! After our son was born in 1977, we retired it to the garage for about 10 years until I started driving her again. In 1997, we moved to the beach and that was the end of her. Within two years, the rust was obvious but there wasn’t anything we could do to protect her. We reluctantly sold her to a collector (who really wanted that hardtop) in about 2010. I cried when they towed her away but she had given us many years of enjoyment. Thanks for releasing those great memories!
A pleasure Susan. Thanks for that special message. Made my day and glad it ment so much for you. These old cars certainly are great for making memories
When I was in college in the late 70s, I had a roommate who owned a TR6. He was quite nice letting me use it for an afternoon now and then. I'd head for the hills of northwest Arkansas and enjoy driving with the top down and the total experience of driving one of these wonderful cars. I loved it then and still love it today in 2022. Actually, I had a number of friends with MG convertibles. The biggest memory of those is they were always having to work on them, so learning how to repair them yourself was almost mandatory. I guess my roommate was just lucky, as I don't remember the TR6 having to be repaired.

When I was in the US Air Force I ordered a 1970 Tr6, when arrived back in the states I had to go to the Port of New Jersey to pick up the car, had to pay $14.00 duty on the car, first stop out of the Port was a gas station very little gas in it, total cost of the car with shipping and Insurance was $2,800.00, what a deal, same yellow, black back convertable, note they put 14 miles on the car to come over as a used car.
A great inspection of the underside. In the first part of the garage view the video is reversed as if you are looking in a mirror. The car is left hand drive and then becomes right hand drive. Funny quirk.
Yes, for some reason i haven't worked out how to fix yet when you film on the front camera on my iphone it reverses the image, yet the rear camera films correctly as i see it. Very strange! The car is actually RHD for the avoidance of doubt.

Very informative review.Bearing in mind the british climate,I have never understood why these cars did not have their chassis galvanised from new at the factory, this would have limited the long term effects of the dreaded issue of rust.
I wonder why the UK versions had such a significant power drop for the later cars? Maybe a focus more on economy over power? A great shame. That said, when you're driving such a beautiful little car who cares! These are beautiful looking cars, chap around the corner from me used to have a bright red TR6, it was a minter! I believe it was to do with the PI system not meeting US smog regulations at the time. Although i have a UK car, given a blank page id probably have carbs (twin SU) to gain more ease of adjustment and setup over the PI setup. Each to their own though. Thanks for the input.

What the heck here? Some of the scenes are flipped right to left? Your video is misleading because not all TR6s have tubular rear shock conversions. Use poly bushings when possible, and convert to a non acid battery, Optima, as soon as possible.
Find the most rust free model you can. Replace the drive train with a small block V8 like a GM 327 or 350 with turbo 300 auto trans and a Dana rear. Soften up the suspension to get a nice ride that will not rattle your teeth out, now you will have a reliable and interesting convertible.
