Its easy to see that Peter Cetera was enjoying himself and that he really didn't want to leave the band. When your hand is forced the unexpected will happen.
Hearing Cetera sing "If you Leave Me Now" brings back a flood of memories. Chicago was one of those bands that just always seemed to be on the radio in the 70s and 80s.
@@marcrogers7070 Those albums were great too. But alot of old school fans have a tendency to trash anything the band did from 1980 to present. So that's probably why he said that.
I didn’t appreciate Chicago in the 80’s, I was stuck back in the early 70’s with Terry Kath. These guys are really good together, had to get old to appreciate them…fantastic!👍👏👏👏💜☮️💜
It's always great to see a live performance from my favorite era of the band. I just wish Chicago had released some official videos, back then, of their live 80's shows cuz this deserves HQ quality. Same goes for lots of other American artists who were stingy about filming their tours. Thankfully the Budokan in Japan had the foresight to film alot of these shows.
Jealousy is a bad thing. I prefer the early to mid 70s Chicago with Terry, but by 1984, people wanted slow ballads which Peter/David Foster delivered big time. The most brilliant in the group seem to be the ones forced to quit. Robert Lamm and Jimmy Pankow wrote alot of Chicago songs that became hits in the 70s, but by this time it was Peter carrying the group and giving Chicago a very big comeback..Ya the other members hated the schmaltzy love songs, but I bet they werent complaining about the money the group was raking in from these songs..
@@Jazz_Guitar_From_Frank Cetera according Foster was unhappy in Chicago but Cetera wanted to do what Phil Collins did, which was to do a solo album and still be with the group. The group was actually afraid if the 2nd solo album succeeded Cetera would've left. People forget Cetera had already released a solo album in early 1982 >PETER CETERA. Cetera made a colossal error by saying to the record executives back then "IF MY ALBUM IS A HIT , IM LEAVING THE BAND " and once Cetera said that despite "Livin' in the limelight " getting airplay, the record company sabotaged and would not promote his solo album, the record company Warner Reprise attitude was "We got 10 times the money invested in this group, than we do this person who thinks he can go solo". Cetera said "The record company did not want me out there on my own " . Also though Cetera had two number one songs 🎵 after leaving Chicago (Glory of Love/Next time I fall). He said he had NO backing from the record company and despite Jason Scheff being his replacement they were still trying to get Cetera back in Chicago. He politely said NO each time it came up. He didn't want to leave the way he had done but after the band/ management reneged on promises they agreed to at first on him doing an album and spend time with his baby daughter . Cetera's hand was forced. It's been 39 years and I still don't blame him for leaving at all.
@@waltersimmons946 Excellent analysis. If the record company doesn't want your album to be successful, you can be sure it won't be, because they won't lift a finger to promote it.
Man great memories flood my being when I listen to one of the greatest bands that ever did it. I made alot girls happy in the early years. They are the s..t.
@@markflood9755 I felt the same as you…The Terry Kath days. I’m opening my mind up & appreciating The Chicago of the 80’s. My heart is still in 1970 until Kath was gone, but these guys are good.👍☮️
How dumb were these guys to not keep Cetera? They basically forced him out of the band. Granted he was doing some solo stuff but he was going to stay in the band. They tried to make him sign a contract that he didn't like and he ended up leaving. Considering he had become the star of the group, they should have bent over backwards to keep in. But instead there was a lot of jealousy and they didn't like the slower love songs, despite the fact that those songs were what was selling.
Terry Kath and Peter Cetera are the best Vocalist of Chicago ....alao theie melodies Colour My World , Your The Inspiration are two of chicago s best song.
Thank you so much for making these videos available and for what you're doing! But I wanted to ask what particular device do you use to digitize your VHS tapes?
My pleasure! For the videos uploaded in the last year, I used "VIDBOX," for the transfer and Topaz AI in an attempt to enhance the quality a bit. I used a different device a couple years ago for the previous uploads that left a little to be desired.
I know that in 1984, everybody came to see Peter when they went to see a Chicago concert. Then Robert Lamm sings his Saturday in the Park song, lol. It seemed outdated then. We wnted to hear songs from 16 anf 17.

The importance of the live material of 1982-1985 (and maybe to an extent up 1989) should not be understated...

😮😅
A great era of music. Those albums in the 80s were well done by the band.
The 80's? What about the late 60's and 70's?
@@marcrogers7070 Those albums were great too. But alot of old school fans have a tendency to trash anything the band did from 1980 to present. So that's probably why he said that.
Yeah many fans do not like the 80's, but that is my favorite era of the band.
Champlin sounded very good on "Make Me Smile" in his early years with Chicago.
Chris Pinnick was really, really good. Very clean with an amazing sense of melody. The solo on 25 or 6 to 4 demonstrates this :)
I totally agree....he was my favorite Chicago guitarist...after the original Terry Kath of course
Chicago been lucky to always have hot guitar players : Kath, Dacus, Pinnick, Bailey, after that they had standard guys ....Pinnick is fantastic....
Man, Peter Cetera did have perfect pitch.
Them letting Danny go, awesome drummer, is nuts.

The strongest line-up post Kath...on 25 or 6 to 4, Chris Pinnick has some very nice chops...excellent music that it timeless...
Chris remains the best post Kath guitarist.
Cerera at the top of his game here

This music got me through a terrifying time of my life. So grateful it exists.
Its hard listening to anyone but Terry sing Make Me Smile/ Color My World...

amazing band.very tight.
Wow, Cetera really carried this concert on his shoulders.
He was getting ready for that solo career.
He was forced into that direction. @@decacards5250
Yes, his voice was pristine. Voice, bass, looks, he was primed to fly the coup when push came to shove.

no, we wanted out too
Jealous. Insecure. Greed
Lamm and Pankow got along with nobody. Kath wanted out too before he died and listen to what Champlain says about them.
Cantei muito esta canção em São Paulo nos anos 70

That might be the reason Peter told interviewer Ernie Menous "Robert emotionally ran me out" (of the band) .
Damn it has been 40 years since Peter left the group.
The middle of 2025 it will be 40 years since Peter Cetera left and Jason Scheff was brought in his place at the end of 1985. God Bless you, Robin
No weak links in this chain.
I never understood the addition of Bill Champlin to Chicago.
Its called variations, man
They were looking for the Ray Charles voice Terry Kath had and they certainly got it from Bill Champlin! God Bless you, Robin
Cetera going for the David Bowie look here.
Rod Blagojevich on keyboards! 😄
What? The One Time Governor Of Illinois Played Key Boards For Chicago?! LOL!!
Terry Kath sang that song...not a bunch of cover artists!
Nothing new....In a lot of these performances they dont show Cetera much???
Shit!
They salvage Terry Kath s Colour My World here...not good to listened.
Sweet Marie? Wtf? That wasn't on any of their albums and for good reason.
He looks like Perez Hilton
Peter Suterra played limp rock
It's Peter Cetera. He wrote quite a few hard rock tunes in Chicago. The record company felt the ballads sold better .
