  • These commercials aired during ABC's presentation of Jim Henson's "The Christmas Toy" on December 6th, 1986. All of the fatty foods and cheesy narration manage to perfectly sum up what Christmas was like in the 80's. Also features promos for "John Grin's Christmas" and "The Perry Como Christmas Special".
    EDIT: All of the commercials from this special have been posted in higher quality in 80's Commercials Vol. 962: • 80's Commercials Vol. 962

      Processed cheese is essentially natural cheese with an emulsifier added. That's it.

    • @apl175
      @apl175 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Velveeta gets a bad reputation but the reason it melts easily and consistently is due to an added emulsifying agent - usually sodium citrate. Without emulsifiers, the cheese would split in to proteins and oil like when you try to melt natural cheeses in to a sauce.

    Oh god I love this video. I watch it every year. Never before has such mediocre food been so fancily displayed. God bless the person who compiled and uploaded this.

    I remember these well. i particularly like the voice of the announcer. It was also the SAME announcer for all of these commercials no matter what show they were on. His voice also goes back earlier than the 80's. Would not be surprised if he narrated these for 20+ years or so prior to this date. Does anyone know who that was? The commercial would not be the same if the voice were different. Thanks for posting.

      Russell- his name was Ed Herlihy, and he did indeed have a long and prolific career in broadcasting.

    I remember these commercials even back in the 70s - they were like a Holiday tradition because they were a number of Kraft sponsored TV speciails. It just seemed to be part of the holidays.

      The ex of someone I know was half-Italian and his family ate pizza and pasta for Christmas dinner. Apparently it’s commonplace in Italy.
      Also my ex-friend’s adopted parents hosted a community Christmas lunch with the church they ran, which meant having their Christmas on Boxing Day and they didn’t want to be doing with making two Christmas turkey dinners so they would have nibbles instead. Not everyone has a big roast dinner on Christmas Day.

    I've made the chocolate mousse recipe. It was a bit too rich, so I tweaked it a bit to cut the richness. It's an awesome mousse recipe. Also, what was with people putting cheese in apples?

    Got to give them credit in that It actually looks like they just prepared the food in front of a camera. Usually for tv commercials and print ads they hire an artist to make fake food.
