I feel like a part of the idea behind the plate vest is highlighting how the runway process itself creates and embellishes the pieces with value. That vest, by being on a runway model at a fashion show, is inscribed with tons of meaning, that the broken plates themselves probably wouldn't have in other contexts.
Amazing and thorough video as I expected after the first one. To add onto the craziness that is the classic jacket: The seam that connects the lapel and collar is inverted and the rest isn't. Which is quite an annoying thing to accomplish.

If you want to watch all the episodes together in one place in order, you can check out our MEGA video that’s called How to Learn Everything about Margiela 💫💫
Your research insight and presentation are phenomenal. I'm just working through these vids. Margiela has always confounded me. I used to sell the mens clothing but it was hard to shift. Pockets of fans in bizarre places. I had a pile of the '0' '10' but it has dwindled, always a regret. Broken plates calls up the artist Tony Cragg, maybe also Mark Dion and some of the sculptors taking on radical materialism
The broken plate vest reminds me of mummy nets. It is a net made out of beads and amulets to be placed directly on the mummy after the coffins fell out of fashion. Also broken plates & pottery are very popular with archeologists.

Hey Bliss just wanted to point out that I'm pretty certain the asymmetry of a right hand dart w no left hand counterpart on the black dress you talk about at 24:08 doesnt actually exist, if you look a lil closer you can see the left hand dart as well, just freeze frame until you can see it :).
Thanks so much! Help me out! If you have any fashion friends, link them a video you think they’d enjoy :) I do a lot of promo myself but nothing puts people on like a personal recommendation
The asymmetric darted garment folowed by the symmetrically darted garment looks like when I pin my skirts/ dresses to be shorter or tighter, sometimes if one pin comes loose it will be asymmetrical lol. But it doesn’t appear to be making her dress shorter or tighter
Could you leave the clothes and stuff you talk about on the screen for longer? Maybe next to you? Because the short impressions are gone a bit quick.. thankss
That’s actually a really good idea. Even tho some looks are only on the original vid for like 4 good seconds, I should perhaps do a loop so you can get a real good look at them. Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah! That’s the idea. Typically it would just be atelier employees or fit models, but MMM has *everybody* in the coats. The runway models, the band members, etc. trying to eliminate any semblance of personal identity.
I was today years old when I first saw the broken plate vest.....and belt buckle vest and today i understand. I get it and I will now binge the rest of the series....like right now 😁
where do you get all the runway footage from ? is there a channel (except FF channel) or a site where i could find all runway shows from different Fashion Houses? very nice videos Bliss :D just found your channel a few days ago and been watching every day since
hmmmmm, been watching ur vids, thank u, but sidenote---I may have just ordered some tabi sneakers as a result of margiela reflections via engaging with your videos. powdery/colorless grey suede with reflective silver paint applied to outsole and beyond. lol enormously indulgent for me personally, but idgaf at this point tbh.
yoohoo - i totally don't mean to be a jerk but grosgrain is pronounced grow-grain AND the franken patch jacket was also done in the early 80s in rabbit fur and leather jackets. maybe he is referencing cheap and popular. don't know
There is such a funny story with that one! About six years ago, Disney created that design and released it at the Florida Walt Disney World Park. There were tons of headlines that got released that same day basically saying “what the fuck is this?“ Disney realized that Joy Division doesn’t really align with their brand in anyway and pulled the shirts the same day 😂😭 Since then, that design has kind of become a legend among a certain kind of T-shirt collector. I had looked to find an original version for years and could never get one. So I broke down and bought a fake reprint of it. The quality of that T-shirt is honestly horrible, I wish I hadn’t bought it. But it was funny and I wanted to wear it for at least one video 🤪
literally the fastest 27 minute vid i've watched. man i love these. thanks bliss
Only two episodes in but I'm already extremely inspired and fascinated. I absolutely love learning about his creations through your videos, keep it up
Thank you for the kind words!

Wow that’s a great insight!
I was watching for a while and i was like “where tf is the intro”😂😂. That intro is honestly 🔥

so underrated, ty for telling us about the margiela universe
did they spray down the coats top collar before it was styled up at 21:19 or they added dust. crazy stuff
All the ideas that go into a piece are amazing
Amazing video! Keep going with the series! You're able to explain the whys in a such easy way!! Thanks for that
actors sometimes use champagne corks to practice speech. And wear them as a neck pendant sometimes (just makes you practice more often)
Like they put them in their mouths to practice enunciating?

Margiela was really chasing the bag with this collection and I respect it
How do you mean?
Martin never chases 'the bag'. ew
