This is the quintessential sound that transports me directly back to the 90’s!!

I like it so much I've added it to my band's setlist. One of my favorite tunes of all time. 💜 Music certainly hasn't gotten better than this. 90s Canadian rock forever!

growing up in the Detroit area i got exposed to Canadian bands by listening to nearby Canadian radio stations, i haven't heard this song on the radio in a long time though, but they still play another one of my other favorite Canadian bands, the Sam Roberts band quite a bit though

Me too. 89X was a great station. Sloan was another band I first heard on 89x. They played a lot of great music. Fastball, Odds, Toadies, Superdrag, Oasis. I loved that era. Now 89x is freaking Country 😆

This band was the sound track to all the crazy days that followed my divorce in 96. Don't really remember alot of that year...soooo wasted...arrested adolescence. But I do remember this video and cd. Thanks for the memories. God Bless.

I met these gentlemen playing a relatively small rock club on Long Island, NY early 90s. I've seen 100s of bands in my time... and probably sang in half of them... but these guys were different. One my favorite bands from the 90s... Bar none. Neopolitan is still one of my most favorite cassettes of all time. Now dead, I need it on CD.
Why weren't they able to release it?

  • @ChorusArtists

As songwriters and makers of good records, The Odds' all-too-brief recording career produced 5-10 of the finest Canadian AOR rock tracks ever sent to the airwaves. So severely under-rated, except with people who do focus groups with radio programming consultants, and for that I am grateful. You can't really forget greatness, and so we don't.

Terrific power pop - beautiful, Beatle-y harmonies. Pop is not a bad word. It's hard to make such perfect power pop. The Odds are fab!

I've kinda re-discovered these guys recently when I bought their greatest hits because I wanted to hear "Someone Who's Cool" again... they really had a lot of other great radio hits but they often fell under the radar a lot of times compared to even other Canadian pop and alternative bands in the 90's. These guys came out pretty early in the 90's during the grunge explosion and their look and sound reflected that despite they were clearly a power pop band... they wore the flannel and stripped shirts, long hair, and heaped on the heavy distortion but the melodies were always melodic and hooky pop.

I completely agree with JIVETURKAH's sentiment. It makes me sad knowing how many people have never heard of the greatness that is Odds, and even more so that even with new material being release, south of the boarder is still none-the-wiser. You guys were amazing in the past, and continue to Rock now!

If The Odds came out today they might have been huge. There are actual radio stations now that would play their music, unlike in the 1990's in most of Canada. We like to think of ourselves as open minded in Canada, but when it comes to music we can be very conservative, and amazing groups like The Odds don't get the proper amount of playtime they deserve.

    Great job.
Have a hard time figuring out their influences tho' . . . sometimes I get a very Ray Davies vibe from these guys, other times it's Marc Bolan, occasionally the usual Lennon & Mc, and every now n' again I think I hear some Stevie Marriott wailing away on a Les Paul. But all of it works very nicely -- think Steve Drake is probably the best guitar player I've ever seen, and he makes it all look so easy!

@JIVETURKAH Yup! As is often the case, Canada's best music gets no international attention, while our shittiest shit become chart toppers. The Odds, Sloan, Blue Rodeo, Matthew Good Band - all that good 90s rock/pop is more or less ignored by the American market. In a sense it's a shame, but at least we get to keep the good stuff for ourselves! Kind of like Australian wine lol.
