Robb currently setting up the SL8 with that same expander plug, my issue is the black piece. I cannot get it out the steerer so I can cut it. Realy wish the manual had mentioned the possibility of your having to cut this if you do not use all the supplied spacers. The red part I was finally able to get out, but the black part seems stuck. Any suggestions? Right now I am thinking about taking it to a machine shop tomorrow to see if they can pull it out. Starting to think persons who plan to slam the stem are better off going with another solution eg (Ancora Expansion Plug by Cain Creek)
Yes! I ran into that issues as well. You have to *trim the bottom half of the expander plug if you want a low or slammed stem configuration. I was able to pull it out with ease. When I felt resistance I knew something wasn’t right. If you wedged it in the pretty good, I’d say you can try the same pick method but you’ll need to get an extended one. When you do sort it out I’d be interested to hear how you did it. #RobbArmstrong
@@RobbArmstrong1 had to use elbow grease as they say and force it out (hammering a wrench connected to a bolt screwed into it). All is well now. Really looking forward to getting this bike setup this week
Thank You was struggling scratching my head until I watched your video 😊
AWESOME! Glad it helped you out. Which Bike do you have, an Allez or a Tarmac?

That expander plug seems to be a pain to remove / adjust.
