I remember playing Age of Wulin good 10 years ago, started a couple months after the EU release. I've heard good opinions about its combat and similarities to Jade Empire, which was my favourite game at the time. Patrolling your school and spying on others was such a clever and interactive way of implementing PvP, it just made fighting other players feel organic. Then there were the big book stealing events, group cultivation, great karma system, and guild wars. It was one of the best MMO experiences I have ever had, but then the second set of inner skills was released. It quickly became impossible to catch up to the p2w player base. Dropped it not too long after the second set release.
Age of Wushu was a truly amazing experience early on, I agree. I loved how people identified with their schools, patrolled them, held duels to prove that their arts were superior, along with all of the things you mentioned. The 2nd inner I found really time consuming, so much so that I felt like you really couldn't compete/make tangingle progress unless you consistently paid to speed up the progress. And then there were cash shop arts... those were the worst. So bad that eventually you couldn't even compete using your school ones anymore, and that's what killed it for me. I thought the game was at its best when it focused on the concept of the martial arts schools and the community in each school, competing vs the others. Even people that didn't necessarily like pvp bought in, I thought.
i remember we can doing escort quest or be the bandit attack player doing escort quest. i don't like pvp game but i like this game because no character level just skill level
One of the most addictive MMORPG back in its time. You need skills to play it decently. Timing is very important. You need to remember boss' attack patterns, you need cooperation, and you need patience. I still remember that school raid event, those fortuious encounters for Ancient Taichi scripts, getting your cultivation interrupted because someone keep missing the button, or because some ass starts open PK on the training ground. And of course, enlisting as mercenary to help instance bosses.
Have not played again in years, was such a addictive game, almost cost me failing college 10 years ago😂😂😂 would like to play again but the grind is too hard and the amount of P2W is stupidly crazy
Got back into the game few days ago definitely worth getting back a lot fun and nostalgia ^^ interacting is quite need to get around if you don't have a group but it's always fun if you have friends to do things and craft things for each other!

Literally the greatest MMORPG, true sandbox where you could do whatever you wanted to, which usually meant dueling people at Chengdu's herbal spot. The movement with the flying skill was insane and the PVP was very P2W but also very SKILL based. It's another game ruined by its company, who decided to shut down EU's version altogether, making me lose my 300 euros character. Thanks a lot, Snail.
There was a pretty long period of time before the eu server closure where you could sign up for your character to be transferred to the na version. Sadly if you haven't done it back then there's probably no way now.
Ah yes...Chengdu...someone starts a pvp duel in PK mode due to a grudge, and the next thing you know, you have 200 people fighting each other...Fun times...

I played on Wulin (EU) from the closed BETA and it was a ton of fun. Went off for a few months, which, coincidentally was when they where closing the EU server and merging it to the US one, with a specific timeframe where you need to apply to transfer your chars or they are deleted. Long story short, I returned to see the server closed and all my chars deleted. Since then, the game is dead to me, especially with latencies to US even with VPN. I dont think age of wushu 2 will happen anytime soon - they just announced 4K + Raytracing update. which comes with an engine upgrade. so i doubt they will invest into a 2nd game in any forseeable future.
I played when the game was freshly new to the time when the last server was released and then the merged because the game was dying. Why? P2W. It was good until they introduced ancient sets into the game. And I'm not saying that I can't afford, I just don't want to spend thousands on a game lol. Many players quit afterwards. I don't mind the VIP and GOLD stuff but the ancient sets is just too costly and whales are out powering normal players who just want to enjoy the game. Bots, Hacks. Glitches. Snail couldn't do anything so they just banned everything. They did fixed a few tho. Back then you can do everything for free, now you need VIP to basically do everything. If whales leave then the game is dead for NA server. Now they're releasing new contents for NA after so many years but no one is coming back. Answer? Dead game...
This game killed all other MMORPGs for me, being a VIP player when it first released, I didn't need to grind levels and could focus on pvp. Just sad there isn't another game like this
damn, I remembered the time where this game became remade or remastered. It was the time where some of my favorite places in age of wushu had been deleted and gone forever, it was like 9 years ago from now I believe, where I was like 10 years old. Played the heck out of it, admired the Chinese architecture and the quests, they were seriously enjoyable
I'm actually longing to play a game like this again. I have great memories from it, and want to experience it again! Does anyone know another game that comes close to this one in genre and gameplay?
This game was my entire adolescence. so many years of memory currently im just waiting for Ashes of Creation to come out. No other MMO has come close to this and while ashes of creation is more fantasy than wuxia, its still the only game I can even see myself enjoying because it has a lot of good systems that age of wushu had and will actually be better in a lot of ways like no p2w. Still couple of years at least before its playable for everyone but might be worth checking out and waiting for it because I doubt any other MMO other than this has even a chance of filling that void.

Many people nowadays play on the Taiwan Server. It is about 4 years ahead in content to the NA version and has halfyearly updates to this days. there is a fan community that has translated 90% of the game and continues to translate new content. Funny enough we have the 12th anniversary in about a month and they will add japan in the eastern seas to the game and more. Also the lock is because they are not main schools. they are "subsects" and you can join all of them later on as secondary schools. The game is also massively different to NA. For example - while VIP is mandatory to enjoy this game to the fullest, since it is a tradeable item in the Taiwan version, you only need to pay for it 1 time. then you can just earn enough money by playing the game to continue obtaining it forever. EDIT: as of last month, the Taiwan server removed the kidnap functionality, as well as offline omney, so playing compeltely free too play is not as easy anymore as before. it is still possible if you have the time, but free2play in general is not as easily to sustain as it was.
