Worth noting in picking lines: from personal experience many swimmers gain speed by using slower swimmers as "traction" - pulling their shoulders (and thus knocking them off course) as they pass. After this happened to me I started avoiding other swimmers or lining up with slower ones if I can.
This has been going through my mind. My race in 5 days. I am thinking of a fast start to jump ahead and have other swimmers navigate around if required. My last race I striated middle of pack and did not go well. I do know that I will get passed but I'm hoping it is better than playing catch up if I start wide. Deep water start for this up and coming race. I do have ability to bolt from standstill. HMMM?
... as a German Biologist and DLRG Rescue Swimmer - I find Swim the hardest with the long anaerobic phases and difficult orientation in the water, surrounded by crazy swimmers... this can so deplete you with ATP - that it is paralyzing to get onto the Bike - which is a Pause to get Breath again. ...
Where do you all film your underwater shots? The water is so crystal clear there, I'm so jealous!

An extra pair of goggles is also a good idea. Your main goggles may break that morning.
