I've been an atheist for five years now. I was brought up as a fundamentalist Christrian and I worked in children's ministry for 20 years since the age of 12. I almost became a pastor in 2010. I was a worship leader for the last six years of my Christian life. What saved me and liberated me from Christianity was rationality. My hunger for truth finally became too strong and I looked at the gospel and realised God was a cunt for creating people who would go to hell despite knowing they would go to hell.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ~Hebrews 11:1

The word "faith" is defined as "belief that is not based on proof," or--in other words--belief without evidence. The word "substance" is defined as

And here is the truth: Many of the books of the New Testament were written by people who lied about their identity, claiming to be a famous apostle - Peter, Paul or James - knowing full well they were someone else. Everything about religious belief depends on faith. What really destroys faith? Lies that religious people tell. One thing we can all thank Trump for is making it so very clear how corrupt the morality of religious people is. Or as Trump would say "Fake morality". Years ago I had faith, I believed. I had no reason not to believe. But hearing lies told to me by religious people gave me reasons NOT to believe. People, particularly evangelical people, who are the same people who today worship Trump, caused me to realize that lies is all they have to offer. I no longer believe in Jesus. But if there was such a being, he would not approve of what Trump evangelicals do or say. Jesus would say that lying is wrong.

If there is a good who cares at all, that would be a bonus to the human story, but I am no longer convinced. It is not necessary to believe in a creator to be a loving human, in fact, not believing might just make us more human and more loving.

Having ruined his own creation, the all powerful Yahweh comes into human form to save his own creation from eternal damnation.

Ergo, as a christian, and given that Hitler was ALSO a christian, it's more probable that he would, by biblical standards, would NOT suffer eternal punishment for his crimes! I've noticed that most people don't seem to get it when Matt says "I'm not convinced". That's why I always say, to clarify it better for those simple folks that "I don't know". I don't know that the claim is right, and therefore I cannot agree with such a claim until I actually do indeed, know. I don't know that a God exists, and can't believe the claims until I do, indeed finally know. It would be dishonest for me to say that I know, and I really don't know. That's one of the reasons I lost my faith. That and the fact my sister was an atheist long before me. From probably before her teen years. Quite wise for her age....she is 19 now. She didn't believe, but her life didn't change like the Bible says it would. For non-believers it says God will have you killed (in the New Testament, of course), and your family plagued with illness and disease for up to 4 generations. Wtf? People actually wanna worship a God like that? I've seen cases of evil killers living a normal life, and dying of a ripe old age. Despite the fact the Bible says that wouldn't be the case. In the Bible those punishments were prompt. In the real world....not so much lol.
