Basic Economy is not a fare class I would recommend traveling in due to its various restrictions. However, I recently flew American Airlines Basic Economy for the first time on my way back from New York. But even on a Basic ticket, I still got perks like Priority Boarding, free seat selection, and even a free extra legroom seat. How? I'll explain in this video.

Beautiful video. Brought me back the memory of the same approach, back in 2007, on American's MD-80. I noticed that as we were descending, the angle of attack started gradually increasing. Right at the point where I thought the airplane was about to stall, those JT8D's started spooling up like crazy. The angle of attack then decreased. That experience was so accelerating (no pun intended).
As an AvGeek, naturally I was seating as far back in the cabin and as close as possible to that engine #2. Miss those days and that airplane.😢
    Again, excellent video, as always.👍😉

Man, that landing took me back to Jan 15 2022 (almost exactly 2 years before your flight, I could see since your flight was Jan 14 2024 right?) when I was flying on AA from ORD to DCA and that entire approach and landing all took place while coming into RWY 1 and the way you filmed that landing made me feel like I was back in DC!! Great job as always man!!

DCA regional ops employee here.. Great video, it was cool to see your experience from the customers point of view. Glad you enjoyed your flight. Also 🤮 at HPN, I was always curious about that airport lol.

Cool video again, the 180 turn after takeoff out of HPN is part of the Westchester 8 Depature off of 16 to avoid flyiing into N90 Tracon airspace (aka New York Tracon) more specifcally La Guardia's traffic flow.. Also the reason when flying in and landing on 34 the approach takes you over the Long Island sound before turning base then final.... Great video, nice to see ironically one of the actual planes I worked on into a city I probably worked it to and to see HPN gate situation is still FUBAR...

Amazing, I had some idea the 180 was a standard procedure!

The charter flight being listed is interesting, but it makes sense. They need to know where the gate is. Probably depends on the nature of the charter…
Not familiar with the airport, maybe the charter pax boarded a “gate bus” that took them to the 757?

Also if your flying Delta there is a trick where you can book seats with a basic economy fare, you can do it the day of but there won’t be many seats to choose from, or you can pay to pick seats seven days before departing, which if you pay there will be more seats open.

Very cool video. At least AA recognizes your loyalty a little when flying on a basic economy fare. DL has by far turned into the worst when it comes to that. With my gold status if I were to purchase a basic economy ticket on DL I would be stripped of all my privileges including seat selection and priority boarding.

The way HPN is set up is in what is known as a "call-to-gate" setup where there is one common holdroom for all gates however, since the podiums to scan your boarding pass are in the holding area and not at the gate, it is not really call-to-gate. Only two other airports in the US i know of have a simular setup like this and that is some of the gates Orlando/Sanford and some of the regional aircraft gates at IAH airport but unlike HPN, SFB and IAH make you scan your boarding pass at the gate (which these gates are located in a sterile hallway that can handle international arrivals) you are assigned if your flight leaves from one of the "call-to-gate" gates. The problem with that setup is that the gates at SFB and IAH are in a bottleneck so it gets really congested in the hallways where the gates are so if you are deplaning and the flight at the next gate is boarding, it is really hard to know where you are going and you can often bump into other passengers who are boarding/deplaing at nearby gates because passengers have to line up in the long skinny hallway. Passengers really hate this gate model because often you cannot talk to the gate agents if you need a seat assignment change or something else and i think airports do this so passengers spend more time in the shops/restaurants. You should fly into or out of SFB sometime and see if you leave from one of those notorious gates.
Also, if you look closely, the podium next to the boarding bridge door is a jetBlue podium if you look at the airline logo closely.

A ridiculous set up for waiting passengers at HPN, having never flown there, can't comment much--noticed at DCA, no reverse thrust used during rollout but impressive braking if you use the SWA gates as reference point to the AA gates, not much distance between the two! I do wonder why you don't put your backpack into the overhead bin, thereby freeing up much wanted leg/foot room? My bucket list does include flying to DCA to visit the Air and Space Museum and sample Amtrak's Acela service to Boston

Mesa also opertes the 900 for AA and i Believe Skywest operates the 700 also

    • @ASAviation
      @ASAviation  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Mesa no longer operates for AA, their CRJ900s now fly for United Express. Also yes Skywest flies CRJ700s, hence why I said PSA operates “some” of AA’s -700s.

My guess that Delta 8841 is a sports charter. looking at FlightAware, the flights it took, it looks like it is for an NBA team.

That’s correct. The 757 brought the Knicks in the night before and flew to Bedford to take the Celtics to Toronto.

"Winning at basic economy" - picks seat, gets access early due to membership, flies from an airport that isn't a mainline full flight airport.
Yea bud think you really WON that one. downvote
