For people who are interested in the sordin, keep in mind that the nrr is not tested under the same conditions as US manufacturers, so on paper it’s pretty low but it’s actually not that bad, I found them pretty much the same as a comtac 5
I feel the same, I felt no difference at all. I'll pin this so people see it.

@@ThinLineDefenseCo love the videos Walsh, keep ‘em coming!
I appreciate the pile of bullshit in the corner when everyone makes these charts. It's basically tradition at this point.
haha I totally stole that from you. I was like...where do I pile these till I need em? In the corner..got it!
@@ThinLineDefenseCo the $5000 + dollar pile of mediocre stuff that cost way to much.
NO WAY, ITS BRASSFACTS
As someone who has used the sordins, amps, and comtac V's. To get the best experience possible is to have a buddy that has some of these headsets so you can try them out and see which one you like best and what best suits your needs.
I was running amps for a while and ended up switching to the comtac V's because not being able to turn off the amps without taking the batteries out got old after a while. I also run an ACH for my helmet of choice and found that for me the comtac V's were more comfortable running them inside the helmet because of the Walmart inner biking tube headband. The amp headband just pushed too much on my head which got pretty uncomfortable after a few hours and would have to shift the headset in my helmet a lot to me more comfortable.
I never really got into the ear plug feature on the amps because I didn't want to have even more battery usage from the headset and spend an extra 200 bucks for ear plugs. The comtac V's has their ear plug mode and with surefire earplugs without putting the little plug in its good enough for me but obviously not as clear as the opscore amps. The comatac V + ear plug combo has worked more than enough to hear things when I'm out in the field or at shooting competitions. your mileage may vary.
Great great advice!
Would love to see in-ear comparisons next.
Most of the ones I have are inexcusably horrible and they get marketed pretty hard as being great when they're like....pistol only ....outdoors only. I steer clear of those after only experiencing horrible ones.
-Walsh
Thank you for the great info as I’m looking to get something soon
This is a great video. Thank you for making it! I wound up deciding on the Contact V's I was about to get for a good deal. Sadly, before this came out hahaha. Keep up the great work man!
I heard the V's are the way to go so I think you made a smart choice!
-Walsh
Comtac Vs fuck.
The VIs are a bit of a gimmick.
Great video as usual TLD. I was glad to see you do this. As you pointed out, there is wildly different quality in each of the price points. I’m a big fan of the OTTO TACs. I spent a couple months testing samples for my group at work and landed on the OTTOs for one big reason…value for the dollar. We got these direct from OTTO (made in Illinois), with helmet mounts and PTTs for half the cost of the Ops Cores and Peltors we also tested. Check out their helmet mounts…pretty good. And easy to switch from headband to helmet. I’d also say you’re right about 3M jacking the price with their nose in the air. I can’t say they’ve made any substantial upgrades in more than twenty years that would justify the expense. Pathetic money grabbers.
Again, thanks for your perspective, humor and useful content. Please try and look at the top contenders mounted to your helmet with their factor mounts. I think you’ll find the OTTOs just as comfortable as the others.
I got the Sordins; I’m midway through this video and I think I’m pretty happy with my choice. You’re right about the LED though, as I’m really not sure why it’s there.
I have volunteered at machine gun events and let me say, I was disappointed in my Sordins. No matter what sensitivity level I picked, I couldn't hear the other people at my booth while shooting was happening. Still had to scream in each other's ears. I was about 15yds from the closest machine gun station. Most of the machine guns were 25yds+.
@@musicman1eandaYea that’s machine guns for ya 😂 the SBF is a loud place. You either gotta double up or feel the pain. Not even the best foamies stuck completely in the ear can help around crew serves for any real length of time
This is the kind of content that I need.
what a bad ass comparison of head sets!
Thank you ! I also reviewed these headphones!
I like my ops core amps but the price tag with the ear buds did leave me a bit dizzy. Awesome video and comparison for sure.
Thank you! God bless. Be safe! 🤙🪖👮🙏🇺🇲
Will you guys be reviewing more budget headsets like walkers or Howard leights with something like a covert arms multimount mic for comms?
I can definitely add those and try to add more to this list. Seems like a lot of requests for the budget side
-Walsh
Gotta get the Kore Aviation gel cups! Takes a little adhesive to install, but improves the NRR and comfort to about any set. Cheaper and better than the "pew specific" companies.
What about the earmor mk3 mil version? Im actually looking at those and would be nice to know how they stack up. Thanks for the reviews!
I haven't been shooting with them yet, but I have a set of these attached to an HHV bump helmet. They fit on nicely. I'll have to see how they do soon.
Cool yeah i just got a hhv bump ad well and looking at ear options. Would love your thoughts on how those stack up.
I've got the peltor range guard which I'm pretty happy with
Was just looking at them on Amazon, do you use them indoor or out?
TC in Annapolis MD
@@megaman4201 only indoor so far
Would the ottos work with the hhv pop out rail adapter kit? Looks like it but otto says you have to jerry rig it. Confusing
Is there better ear cups (gel) for the Ops Core Amps? I don’t want to some and then find out they don’t fit. I like my Peltors, but my amps are awesome with the customization you can do for different applications.

Been waiting for a video like this!
That’s unfortunate for the Poletacs haha. Thanks for the info though! I just don’t think headsets with a down lead is going to happen for me! A speaker PTT and a 3.5mm jack it is!
I am looking for something for my tactical helmet, I was looking at the FCS AMP since I had a bad experience with $130 amazon brand headsets not really protecting my hearing. The FCS AMPS are in the $230 range and I’m kinda not trying to ring my ears again
8:00 I thought my Sordins was faulty, but turns out it isn't just me having the issue of bottom battery not sitting properly, experience is almost as annoying than trying to take the battery out
I've had or been issued peltor 3, 5, 6, sordins, and invisios and the comtac 5s are far and away the best. I really like the AMPs but for double the price it's not THAT good.
Maybe I'm just a shill for 3M, but they're fantastic. FYI, that razor thin headband is so you can fit it under a helmet. It's not meant to be a fluffy cloud on your head. It's also way more comfortable than it looks.
My choice for shtf or just running practice and classes-opscore amps and my back up is comtac v’s dual leads, on my opscore maritime ballistic helmet. Go cheap if you feel your life doesn’t depend on it. If you feel your life doesn’t depend on it- those harbor freight orange ear plugs will do everything you need them to do= protect ur ears.
My #1 is the opscore amps. #2 is comtac 3, 4, 5, 6
Dual lead PTT > dual lead headset
but yes, AMPs
@@ThinLineDefenseCo to be truthful- love my comtac v’s too.
Love the vids. Good job. Keep em coming. Do a video on knee and elbow pads. Not much good info on them.
ohhh good point. And yea I should have gotten the V's and not the VI's. They seem better but still the same left side mic swap that seems like it was designed by a can of soup.
@@ThinLineDefenseCo that’s the truth. What asshole designed that? But- I like em. I’ll have to borrow some of the ones you tested- to see what they are all about.
What headband did you use as an upgrade for the Sordin?
I think that's a grim hunter one but there are a few that also have a hook on the back to hook on your belt easier.
-Walsh
Had amps for around 18 months hands down the best ear pro ever. I do wish it had the Bluetooth feature of the comtacs it’s great for communication while in an aircraft or internal comms when you gotta maintain radio silence
I agree.... I just need more friends with headsets haha we're all retired now without the cool toys
-Walsh
Falcom GN and Invisio… volume 2! Stay awesome!
Yea seems like there are a ton more people want to see. And the 30 dollar ones to see how they stack up.....they do poorly haha
And you stay awesome!
-Walsh
You had me at paint chips.
I understand you reviewed the headsets you already have but I highly recommend checking out the safariland liberators. I have a set and love them, they are basically an upgraded set of sordin supremes.
Noted! I'll see if I can snag some.
-Walsh
in what way are they Upgraded?
@@LoveLikeaHurricane I have the standard model but they also have comms capable models that are pretty expensive up in the price range of the rest of the high tier headsets.
The standard liberator HP 2.0 headset has a quick detach headband which is worth it alone compared to the sordins if you ever plan on mounting to a helmet. They also have several audio presets that you can use for different environments and have really great sound clarity. They also have a much higher sound reduction compared to the sordins and lastly, the battery compartments are miles better than the sordins, you can easily get into the compartment and you can use either two AAA batteries or one cr123. There may be more benefits of the safariland vs the sordins but these are just the few differences that I have noticed so far. The headset seems extremely similar to the sordins though which is why I consider it just an upgraded version of them.
@@dimemmo sordins also have an upgraded version which now feature a thicker ear muff for even more protection
@@LoveLikeaHurricane yea I definitely don’t have that version haha I have the original sordin supremes but I love those too, I definitely enjoy the safariland headset more now after having both. I use the safarilands on my helmet and then I use the sordins the rest of the time.
Flying on military helicopters I can't hear a thing on peltores, the nfmi on the amp makes a huge difference.
So what should I get if I want something for, like, 50% larp/airsoft/cosplay. . 49% going to the actual range. . and 1% that hypothetical power fantasy we all have where everything falls apart and I believe my tacticoolness will save me and my friends?
haha sordins
You didn’t do some of the cheaper options, like Howard Leights or Walker’s. There are options out now to add mics and run comms with them. That’s what I use while I’m still stuck in analysis paralysis. 🥴
I can show those but I've found anything below the x300 was "what the hell is this" quality.
@@ThinLineDefenseCo Even the howard leights? I'm always surprised by them. The walkers are trash tho... mono audio is disgusting....
Because they're dogshit.
I've got a few pairs of Walkers as loaners and they all sound very, very bad. My first set of electronic ear pro was the Howard Leights and they fucked up my hearing.
I use peltor sportac, run ptt into radio and then radio into peltors, works like a charm, also a lot cheaper :D
Call me crazy but they virtually all sound the same
yea...that's something I noticed too. It's far more personal preference than "one is better'
@@ThinLineDefenseCo yeah I listened with and without my earbuds in and I really couldn't tell a difference.
Then take into account that some are always out of stock, and double the price of others. Gives us a good idea what’s the best bet
that's hard because I don't know what you need. The x300 is the best bang for the price for a range setup if you go twice a quarter. The sordins will get better milage if you do long range days. The Ottos if you need downlead and comms but don't....actually use it.. The AMPs if you know what you're doing.
Like so? From the comments I need to try the Rangeguards too...may be a better cheap option.
-Walsh
I want to see a review on the Swat Tac's. Apparently they're made by MSA. Same as Sordins. The difference is that they have the downlead and mic whereas MSA quit making Sordins like that
I have comtac 3's and 5's. Love them and after hearing this i. Not trying sordins so i dont get my feels hurt.😊
so at the sumup it looks like, that the newer sordins, like the T2, wich were not compared, will be waay better choice then some ComtacV and maybe even better the the ops core amps..
i'm sonna run the Sordins, although because they look way more sympatic. unless peltor seems to rest up with their evolution because they *think* they arrived, not like Sordin wich became as i hear an independent company, specializing on tactical headsets, not as peltor wich still are part of 3M
I'd love to get some comments on this to learn more and maybe get to a closer conclusion? ❤❤❤
lol the T2 won't be on the market till summer. But I'll bring em in when we do the next group for sure
-Walsh
I personally run Safari liberators and hate them. But this type of gear is very expensive so I feel like their the best choice unless your department is paying for them
haha love this input. Definitely sounds like I need the safariland ones for round 2.
I had asked them if we could borrow a set and they didn't seem to keen. Maybe they knew...
-Walsh
how about directional sound?
The top tier all do it all well but there is no way to measure it or present it to you. Even the x300s do it well actually.
but it's a very subjective topic and I noticed no difference
-Walsh
I am offended by your rankings for some reason! Lol, just kidding. Great breakdown!
No walker razer on the list even as a comparison point. It's the most used ear pro out there and it's missing
We can do more!
Walker is the shittiest electronic ear pro on the market. Not sure why people like them. They're heavy, squeeze your head, and sound shitty.
@@Vinnytwotime show me where walker hurt you
@@jamesdendy6384 right here on my peepee. Didn't I say it squeezed my head?
It's cheap @@Vinnytwotime
Honestly the AMPs sound the best to me, but they’re all pretty close. Which is wild given the price disparity.
Yea I think that's the wildest thing. It's more payment for connection styles and such.
Has anyone seen the price of the new sordin t2s?
I was looking also but hadn't seen. I don't know if they're actually released
QC on the AMPs is terrible. I think we had an almost 66% failure rate in desert conditions over a 9 month period. Having said that, I did go out and buy my own set, so take what you will from that information.
This right here. That said, I wish more manufacturers would use removable downleads. I am currently using a rubber band on my comtac VIs when I don't want a downlead poking me when off COMMS. The Peltors are certainly one of the most durable headsets, I just wish they had some of the features of the AMPS.
@ghosthacktube There's a little wire you can get for the comtac hearing defenders that turns them into a single lead.
It's a very roundabout way of connectorizing peltors but I've never had an issue with it in the field and in some ways it's less annoying.
bad ass channel and love these tier list, lots of knowledge
Hey, nothing wrong with being annoyed at others people's existence.
Harry if you worked at 3m peltor....I would be zero percent surprised haha
-Walsh
Do i sense a peltor 6 giveaway?
I hope so lol
You should mention wind noise
I thought about it but I think the audio portions speak for themselves for folks to make determinations. Wind was pretty much a problem is in all of them though
I have been using the Amps for 2yrs. My buddies also use them. I have seen 2 sets die, and another break the attached down lead. While Ops Core fixed them it took up to 2months. I bought the 6's for the NIB and due to the better sound quality interface to my comms. My personal testing is ongoing. One thing for sure, I dont like the included helmet mounts. So I ordered the adapters to retro fit the Amps rail mount. Time will tell.
All of the people I talked to who have or had AMPs ran into issues down the line. The AMP of my mate stopped working in the field just after the warranty expired. They might be the best, but their track record in terms of reliabilty seems shoddy at best.
The Comtac IIIs I am using are not the most feature packed or have the best sound quality, but they are damn near indistructable.
Walsh - “Hmmm… This is only a mildly annoying battery system.”
Also Walsh - Stabbidy Stabby stab da battry 🤬🔪🎧😂
PSA: TEA is a pain UNLESS you're running issued comms. They primarily outfit units, so as an individual trying to swim upstream you're the monkey wrench. Talk to disco32 and find out what you need, then get your high threats if that's you.
Yea I ran into that but it makes it odd as Tea is the American supplier. I just send people to Amazon now for Sordins or to a different product if the Hi-Threats are what they want. Tea didn't want the business and it's impossible to navigate whatever is they're trying to do on that website.
Has anyone ever told you that you sound like Matt Pat the food theory guy? 😂
No lol but I get "Bob Segura with hair" a lot
@@ThinLineDefenseCo 😂😂 love the vids btw came in looking to see what would be the best bet for work and ordered the sordins today!
You clearly didn't read the peltor manual on how to swap the mic, because you need to have the leg from the headband facing in on the side you have the mic on. Which you dont.
Read a manual? What do you think we are professionals? We're dads and we're filming in our backyards/garages.
- Jason
It doesn't matter how you swap the leg... I tried it both. The cord is too short. It's literally designed by a moron
-Walsh
plus ... I didn't even know it had instructions lol
Was wondering if yall would review the Opsmen earmore m32.
Airsoft knockoff junk.
@DraconisMarchVII lol thanks was thinking the cost would make it worth an entry level hearing protection
why do you keep calling it the X300? As far as i know its called Peltor sport tactical 300.
lol you are correct. I have no idea why I just added that at the front. The stupid x300 surefire probably got me all confused.
mmmm... paint chips taste like purple
now that the peltors vi are $539 would change the ranking for you
Look at the single downlead version. 539 is just the base price and for that price they're not better than the sordins at all
-Walsh
Should gotten comtac 5s
Concur. I've heard that. I do want to test the nib one day though
I'll stick to Walker Razors with walkie's because I work for a living..and I can talk to truck drivers and still make my truck payment. Same with Nigh Vision NVG30 and 3 truck payments vs a PSV14. If I decide I've had enough of being married i'll get me a PVS14, Peltor Coms, III+ Highcom Helmet with a real Wilcox and Noveske Afghan Rifle.... all to go in my new Raptor Truck. That should do it.
sounds like you need to get rid of the truck payments lol

@@ThinLineDefenseCo Yep its almost paid for ...but I have dropped a ton of $$$ on food, guns, ammo, medical supplies (enough for kids and grand kids) generators and a place to bug out to. And when I really want to see in the dark I can sit on my porch in the country and turn on the 50-640 2.5X20 Thermal mounted on my B-14 6.5 Creedmoor. That set me back about 10 truck payments. ; )

the new meta for tier lists is changing the letter tiers to funny names. i want swamp ass tier. I want AMPS for the flex but my credit card was declined.
hahah noted.... I'll correct the D tier for the walker slims

@@ThinLineDefenseCo I love em....Luke I am your Father!
Nobody ever talks about Invisio or Liberators disappointing
I'll need to get those for the second round!
They are solid options, used the amps for awhile and kept having issues with the springs breaking/losing tension.
The Ops Core helmet mounts are sooo bad, they're weak and plastic-y and they need to be tightened with an Allen wrench everytime you use 'em.
My opinions are formed by Tarkov, I will not elaborate.
haha that game lies. I want AMPs in helldivers....for democracy.
Ops core need to stop with the BS and make the Amps a high demand product so us military guys to order them

Unless you’re a professional trigger puller I don’t see a need for most of these brands. A normal civilian would be better off spending the money on more training ammunition.
