  • after watching a tutorial from a mate of our community, I have to admit that stam is also a kind of skill issue. this tip helps a lot to enjoy our beloved bird until the devs will give it the promised love. beside that we witnessed a "broken" mutation, which can be easily countered in my opinion. in general we had many encounters :)

    Synchronizing wing flaps with space bar? That's so awesome, thanks for letting us know. Can't believe YOU of all people harassing a poor defenseless Beipi! After checking the time remaining in the video, for a second I thought you were gonna splash down and he was gonna kill you instead.

      thx ♥ but the credit goes to SoulFull Creations. it was his tutorial which showed me this technique. well, beipi is on pteras diet and it is a fair match up, so, no reason not to go for it as ptera

      The wing flap animation is independent of any height adjustments you make with space bar. You can tap space bar in any frequency, without paying any attention to the position of the wings at any time, and the stamina consumption just simply follows with how many times you tap the space bar. Wing flapping frequency, position or anything has no influence at all on stamina use upon pressing space. Pressing space itself is the determining factor.

    The problem with hunting beipies in the water is even if you manage to kill it, it’ll just be stuck in the middle of the lake or river and you wont even be able to eat or grab it without putting yourself in serious danger

      honestly, this was my perfect ending. I thought, if I catch it, then I will land in the water and try to grab push it to the shore. worst/best case would have been if a deino would have grabbed me. perfect ending for the video but yeah, if I wouldn't play for footage too, then I would also think twice to land in there

      I know I am probably the only one and it is heavily subjective but restricted NV for ptera is something I enjoy the most. Flying through forests during storms with poor NV radius is some sort of a minigame itself and I like to PvE my way out of it. There is still plenty of reaction time for player so it is not completely undoable. But flying way too high somewhere around coasts can be very anxiety fueling, I agree. :D

      @@Bleghspread honestly, I don't even have problems within a forest. the two main problems are water, because you don't see it's surface at all at night and the horizon if you fly more high and during cloudy nights. you ain't see anything but black. you should at least see the horizon imo tho. even if it is just slightly. but pitch black in all directions is hard to enjoy

      that's what I always say. some people enjoy the less stam, others complain about it. personally I don't care, because they will change the stats 50 more times anyway. so, going mad about stats that aren't final, doesn't make sense to me. yet, many people disliked it. therefore, always nice to see people who actually enjoy it. because it shows once more that no matter what the devs are doing, some will like it and others won't

    ye pteranodon is the ultimate guide in PATIENCE lol, but its helped me with every other dino in making more careful decisions and also enjoying the things of the game that i would never notice if i was just always rushing to locations and making it all a blur, but instead flying low enjoying the landscape and just cruising around is actually a calming and enjoyable experience for me. sometimes you just have to slow down, one dino i will love though when it gets released is the anky, I hope its painfully slow yet rewarding for its abilities it will have of being slow yet powerful in dealing with opponents it will come across.

    Pre-Gateway I loved playing PT! Flying high is nice, but nothing beats the thrill of cruising a few meters off the ground, and maintaining that altitude, especially through forests.
    I've baited quit a few players off hills and cliffs doing this, mostly raptors.. seeing them pounce to their deaths or getting leg fractures always made me chuckle xD

    • @July-nj5sn
      @July-nj5sn หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Same. I miss pre-Gateway Ptera. Hunting was so much fun and so was nesting. I had so many new players as babys as ptera and taught them how to play the airforce of the isle. NW waterfalls was great for meeting other pteras and turtle beach & NE waterfalls were perfect for nesting. Like on Gateway there are no places that feels like they are designed for any species. It feels like you have to have luck to meet someone of your species and not areas that feel like a natural habitat for certain species.
      Also on Spiro so much more people were nesting, which was great for new players to learn the game. Now on Gateway nearly no one is nesting.

    • @gajspalt
      @gajspalt หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@July-nj5sn Yeah I know the feeling, barely played PT on Gateway.. I'm hoping the PT overhaul the devs mentioned will bring new interest to the playable. Even small QoL changes like moving around whilst clinging or being able to takeoff from water surfaces would be a welcomed addition!
      Mutations might boost nesting gameplay, now that traits carry over, I can see that breathing life back into PT gameplay.. let's hope.

    A lot of players want to always soar above the trees as ptera, and then they wonder why they have no stamina left after landing. Even just flying twice the height of a carno off the ground is enough distance to make you untouchable.
    Thank-you for passing on the tip about synchronising space bar presses with the wing flaps. I would do that instinctively, but I didn't know it actually helped with stamina management. I'll have to look more into that.

    • @Rhaenarys
      @Rhaenarys หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yea but thats the thing. Most play ptera because they want to explore the island completely and this allows it at incredible angles. And for developers that want "realistic" animals, youd think the ptera would be able to fly a lot more easier than it does. Didnt know the spacebar synch, either, and dont remember developers even putting that in the log. So for most we have to find out through chance or by watching videos like this.
      I havent played ptera for a while now, but i wasnt even trying to soar above the trees. Id lose stam just trying to find food, or fish. Last time i played, and granted i think they fixed this, i was getting killed every time i caught something from the stupid AI. And then i felt like i had to use my stam just to get far enough away quick enough in a safe spot just to eat a single fish. Or...there just wasnt any food spawning, player wise or AI. And i dont mean no players, nothing that was diet at the time, and worth using the stam for.
      The other luck i had was spawning at night.. starving...
      I hope they fixed most of those problems, looks like it from videos ive seen, i might try it again soon.

    Absolutely a skill issue, no matter what dino you play stam management is always key to almost everything you do. @da.mombie I am a main Ptera. I do not know it any other way ^^
      That is what I did since the first time Ptera came out. But in the deep past it was far more easier to obtain altitude, and overall more forgiving to spend your stamina all the way down, without having to tap so precisely and so short.
      It had been worse when the stam changes happened but overall was still the same in principle.
      The main issue is nowadays that you really have to wait for your stam to replenish and because of that not being able to get altitude very fast, without having to wait for so long afterward.

  • @eskelhaito
    @eskelhaito หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I main ptera and my biggest issue with it is not even stam but the inability to pick up pieces of meat from bodies without landing. Like just sitting and eating on land would still be more efficient but with this ability there will be more interactions with other players. Instead of waiting for other dinos to maybe leave you some leftovers (but probably not) you will be able to be an annoying seagull stealing their food and they will catch and kill you if you not carefull enough. But biggest problem with that is beipi. Beipi is on pteras diet so you suppose to hunt and eat them. But 99% of the time I kill beipi it dies in the middle of water. How am I suppose to eat it then? Waste all my stam swimming for one peace of meat so random raptor walking nearby could just kill me? That's not fun

I defended that and expected them to give all playables the necessary attention.
      It most certainly got better but you are still more heavily restricted to do anything as Ptera. You have to constantly look for any Stamina usage and avoid things that would be natural to do so as a flyer. So In my opinion the issue is that the Ptera enjoyer is suffering penalties for too much stuff that is for the most part unavoidable to do as a Flyer.
      1. Taking off cost too much stamina (last time i checked it was 7%, might be less now). For other playables jumping is a deliberate act that most often is not necessary. As Ptera you are required to use falling energy to start flying without usage of stam. But to do that you have to aquire that heightened starting place to begin with, which you guess it, cost stamina. :)
      2. Maintaining Altitude is on the edge of being "cost neutral", but only if you are on track and have not to obtain more altitude, which you have to as soon as you traverse through Gateway. It takes far more time to obtain altitude while saving your stam.
      3. There is no way for Ptera to regain some stam while in air. Others regain Stamina while walking, trotting, but Ptera needs to land and has some quite useless mode of moving on land. I learned to walk slopes for saving stam. I should not have to do that as a flyer, but there we go!
      4. Changing altitude will cost stamina, since you will have to obtain altitude again after a dive if you are not about to land and rest somewhere. No spontaneous maneuvers or quick flybys anymore. Any other playable does not suffer consequences for walking up a slope and even Herra is more cost-efficient if you climb up those cliffsides and mountain ridges. Maybe Ptera should also be able to climb? I dunno!
      5. Resting takes more time to gain stamina back in comparison to other dinos, as it is my impression when I played Pachy recently! Would need to test that for being sure about it but for Ptera it is toooo slow! When you consider that NV of ptera is bad you find yourself sitting to much through your playtime!
      It is just the feeling of freedom that I personally miss so much. :/
      A Flyer should enjoy a trait for being an actual flyer that would mitigate those things.
      I am really hoping for that promised Love that Ptera deserves.

    Definitely a skill issue people are still launching to take off but if you drop from where you are perching if it's high enough and then bam you got a full bar to glide and stop using w to fly. I still a lot of people do this and it just drains the Stam. If you need a boost just tap the sprint every now and then. And recovery is brutal I can admit that but I don't mind sometimes I like to take a bit of a break to do other things lol but yeah love your videos and your attitude with the game. • @da.mombie
      @da.mombie  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yeah, but that's only half the truth. because if you drop from a tree, then you lose much height. I tried that and even with the tap technique I lost more stam to get that height back, then with a regular jump start. so, it only works if you are going somewhere down the map anyway. so true, we have to be patient. so many things are yet to come and personally I am very curious about the up stream for ptera. sounds so great to me

    • @TheHuffur
      @TheHuffur หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      While its a good visual aid I find it is generally better to keep it around every other wing beat and instead of very quick "tap" you do a sliiightly longer "tap-hold".
      The reason to do any of this is because when you gain altitude you lose speed and with slower speed the stamina drain for flying up increases but since you are flying slower you are also flying up slower.. you gain less altitude and at a higher cost.
      This speed loss starts instantly when you tap the button and after releasing it you gradually but fairly quickly regain the speed as you level out. If you keep tapping too fast you can easily interrupt this process, starting the speed loss before you have fully recovered the speed back.
      It depends on how OCD you want to be about it really since its very very small differences in the end results.
      If you or anyone want to test this I recommend you spam tap like crazy while flying to get a exaggerated idea of what I mean with the speed loss and stamina drain. You want a nice middle ground between tapping and holding the button as too much in either tapping or holding is not ideal.

      @@da.mombie The wing flapping just helps you keep a relaxed pace hitting space. The wing positions or flapping behavior has zero influence on how much stam that space tapping does, you might do the tapping at any cycle of the wings and get the same stam use. It's helpful as a metronome, but I think it leads to more skillful flying if you internalize the concept of "only tapping" instead of the extra chaff of "only tapping when wings flap", and you've freed up some neurons to focus on pecking ceras eyes out.
