    Well done to all involved in making this happen,but I think it is a sad that we will never see any of these jets do any fast jet runs up the runway at Bruntingthorpe anymore because of the greed of certain companies and no of these companies are not bothered about our aviation heritage.😢

      Absolutely disgusting that no ‘ licence to operate’ on the runway, even for only one day per year was not included in the sale. Risk for the future of the big aircraft? What a let down from the annual air displays what brought the ‘drome to life, let alone the high speed taxi days.

      Totally agree I was completely gutted and appalled when i found out what has happened.I can’t believe this day and age this needed to happen I’m even more shocked some of the planes have been cut up the Guppy for instance.Shame on the owners of the site greedy money making tosspots.

      There is no runway anymore. Sadly now it stores cars so no room for fast jets.

    It's good to know some of these old girls still have a heart. Isn't the Lightning the most magnificent fighter aircraft, never even had to fire a weapon in anger, just the threat was enough in 30 years of service.

      I was lucky enough to see the Lightning aerobatic team perform at Farnborough . ( still affects me now !!!)

    It's a shame the runway and land was sold off,used to a bloody good day out watching these aircraft do high speed runs.

      Don't think it's sold, but leased out long term.
      All the same......it's a shame.

    Great to see the jets coming to life still, shame the new owners don’t let them do a fast taxi down the runway anymore.

    This was a unique event being so close to these planes doing taxi runs was an incredible experience.I’m guessing the outcome of the victor,comet,nimrod and the VC10 is the scrap heap.The owners of the site should be ashamed of themselves.🤬🤬🤬

    This is what I thought, this was a museum down in cornwall. They didnt want to go, they have the community and private investers.
    Just the council fell very short, very bloody short.
    These jets were being showcased for sale, not a nice moment for all the volunteers.

    Such a shame we can't see these aircraft moving anymore 😢. The roar of thr lightning with afterburner was an unforgettable experience.
    BTW where's the Victor now?

    • @SabreSaint

      the Victor (and other large airframes) are at the other end of the airfield from these aircraft.

      It is a shame and typical of this country’s lack of care in its heritage, why can’t the Loto fund such a thing like in the US, where private companies/the state/loto funds the support and restoration of such aircraft to keep them flying for all to appreciate as they were meant to be! The UK/Gov just forget what part these planes and many more, like the V bombers and alike played in keeping this country safe!? Funding for such things as to keep them flying will never come form the Gov, let alone Loto, or like….sad as it’s all but reduced to firing up and looking at. I was lucky to see all these planes fly in the late seventies and 1980’s….Biggin Hill air show was a treat to behold, seeing and hearing the Lightning take off and go vertical was unreal….my old man used to put his hands over my ears to protect them, but the thunder in my chest was something that never leaves ya!, setting the car alarms off in the many Serra or Montego was funny. The Phantom, the V bombers and others like a F1-11 or tomcat, sheer thrills of the time. All gone from our shores at least. So yes, a shame….we need some billionaire to fund such a thing….if only!🤗😘

    My dad was a B-17 pilot during World War II he would fly from England and they would fly into Germany make their bombing runs. Anyway my daddy told me how they used cartridges explosive cartridges Johnston aircraft Chickering come over I guess the English were a big fan of this concept they also use them when they didn't have a auxiliary power unit on the ground

  • @josephlambe2796
    @josephlambe2796 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s not same as seeing them open up the throttles and bolt down the runway..just like the victor taking off under emergency in the cockpit, if I was that pilot I’d say fk my pilots licence and the CAA regulations, take that bird into the and see her fly…😊😊😊

    I just looked up coming to visit here from the Highlands, but there’s no high speed runs anymore, is that correct?

    • @SabreSaint
      @SabreSaint  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that’s correct - no high speed runs; worth keeping an eye on the group’s social media to see if another ‘static run’ event is planned for 2023.

  • @buttonworld77
    @buttonworld77 ปีที่แล้ว

    Aviation history seems to have a hard time upholding a presence in this country which I find particularly difficult to swallow given how much it has contributed to where we are now as a country. Shame the runways cant be used anymore but hopefully that will change in the future...

    These Jet's need to be brought to St Athan as the runway is still operational & may-be they could apply for Fast Taxi Runs at the base & there is a Large Aircraft Museum there too.

      It's a museum, the Vampire first flew 1946, the Hunter 50s, Meteor 1944 (I think) Lightning (sorry cant remember first flight) but has been out of service 2+ decades none of these planes would last long in contested airspace.
