  • The goal of this video is to show you the difference in the upscaling abilities between Sony, Samsung, and LG. You will see brightness and color differences to which you may believe is better over the other, but this was not the point of this video. I deliberately did not reveal which specific TV models are shown here for each brand as that wouldn't affect the outcome of this test. All 3 television sets shown have also been fully calibrated and captured using the same camera settings. The content used is from different Nintendo Switch Legend of Zelda Games including The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. All of these games are at a max resolution of 1080p, so this will allow you to see the upscaling differences between these TV brands at this resolution.

Great vid man. You should think of doing it with SDR movie & TV show content as well.

Hey what’s up HighDef! I will try to do this….I may have to capture still pictures from movies as copyright strikes are getting even tougher to dodge. Stay tuned for this video!

I been wondering why no one has ever made a video like this. It's a good,/fun idea. However reality creation needs to be adjusted for the Sony to get a more clear result. Sometimes it's a huge difference, and sometimes it is minor. I don't mean to be a bot since I have said this many times in other people's videos but I feel like this needs to be said for those that have no idea,.

Hi! I do appreciate your comment! People do need to know this. I will say reality creation doesn’t need to be adjusted like this as much anymore on the 2023 Sony TVs, but it does help regardless. Thanks for your comment!

@@icemanandbobtechandgaming I own the X90L, and in my opinion if you're not going to attempt to make something look as clear as passable then it defeats the purpose of buying the Sony. Thanks for the reply. I don't say any of this in anger nor am I offended or trying to be toxic. (just saying since some people assume the worst, and it's hard to tell what someone is feeling or expressing through text)

    Hi,
Why not show a video for upscaling differences between low bit rate content that people watch every day. Local news, or cable tv, sdr and hdr channels, netflix, etc. I think your audience would be surprised at the results.

Clearly upscaling differences are minor for the major brands from a physical source. Film is where you’ll see more differences - altho IMO it’s preference based. Sony cleans it up the most and is sharpest (prob even over-sharpened) LG preserves film grain the most. Samsung is in between.

Here's a TH-cam or another online video trick to upscale 720p video. If you use a pc, replace your browser with Opera so you gain the Lucid Mode feature. Lucid Mode is exactly like FSR technology. In windows display options. Leave your display on 3840x2160. Now play your TH-cam videos in 720p with Lucid Mode on in full screen. 720p will upscale to your 3840x2160 display.

Honestly Samsung upscaling is not great for 480p but you can't expect miracles for this resolution. 😊

when a higher brightness tv is on the same shot, the camera will adjust to that and the lower brightness one will look bad.
