  • Welcome back everybody. with the ice not thick enough to go out on I am just looking to pass the time by jumping on a few fun projects. As you know the old little Jalopy is gone but i have kept the motor which has given me nothing but issues from day 1. Let's pull this sucker apart and try to get it back to better condition for fun. I may understand engines but have never fully pulled one apart so it will be a fun learning adventure. if you have any tips or advice please drop a comment and lets see if i can get this thing working again.

If you have to keep pumping the bulb the mechanical fuel pump is going bad the piece you were calling the filter. It does have a metal screen but that diaphram and spring is a pulsating Mechanichal fuel pump

You can get a third party engine repair manual at the library. Look for one by Seloc or Clymer. I have some limited experience as well. You can ask me a question and I might know the answer...

Ain't no screws, of any size or shape, on a motor!!
    Bolts mate, nuts, and bolts.

Actually there were quite a few screws. Maybe not original but definitely screws. Reed valve plate had a Phillips head, fuel filter is held together by small screws and there are a few small clamps with slot screws. All rest is nuts and bolts.

Bolt = used to fasten non-threaded objects with a nut.
Screw = used to fasten threaded objects.
The head or tool used doesn’t matter. It’s all about the function of the fastener.

Is it possible to provide the link to the gasket kit you purchased on Amazon? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks so much. Awesome videos.

And to correct Kevin Wallers comment below, a motor is mechanically driven by electricity such as a starter whereas an engine is driven by a fuel source. K mate?

      Fair call.
Find the two terms are used probably incorrectly by the majority, myself included.
Probably doesn't matter, can't see old mate putting this engine/ motor back together.
Wish I could find an old Johnson that the exhaust covers bolts were loose, rather than seized severely.

    Hi,
Just wondering if you are happy using the cheaper aftermarket gaskets. Are they still holding up without any leaks? I’m working on a similar 20hp Evinrude and need to change the head gasket. Thanks for this video.

This is not going to be the answer you deserve. The motor is still in my basement after 2 years. It was a spare motor and I never out it in the water. I should to finish the videos off and might this off season. What I can say is that they all fit perfect and showed np signs to be concerned of.
