- This video is about the two beautiful Ford Chip Ganassi Racing' 2016 Ford GT LM GTE race cars. I recorded them during a two-days test session at Monza Circuit used as a test ahead of the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours. Listen to the screaming 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine doing some accelerations, downshifts and fly-bys on track.
Don't know why but I'm in love with this video, it would be nice that all my Monza videos were like this with long pure sound shots and views from quite all the corners of the track. Know you don't like this sound at all but I don't mind, I'm too happy for the video I managed to do.

I agree, this deep sound of the good old Ecoboost V6 sounds slick yo! That’s what I want my F-150 to sound like whenever I get it, and I would’ve scared the shit out of my cousins my aunts and my uncles, including my mom and my grandma too LMAO!!! Tbh, I don’t know what type of exhaust pipes this one has, but oh well.
This is a very special car indeed, the sound, Livery, Buttresses, colours, i just love the whole look of this car, stunning.
At first before I saw it race thought the same thing as everyone else - "why would you put a V6 in?" but after seeing it, creds to Ford for making the loudest turbocharged car I've heard in awhile. You eventually get used to the sound and learn to appreciate it. And heck, I'm not even a Ford Fan #teamchevy

Despite the hate on the sound i kinda like the new sound. the sound in my opinion matches the look of the car what with all the technological advancements the new Ford GT has.
Le Mans 1st, 3rd and 4th place. So much shit talk about this engine and it dominates Le Mans.
Yeah, fuck these guys. They turn up with what is essentially a P2 car in disguise (apparently running at less than 107% of P2 lap times) based on a road car that does not even exist, then sandbag for the first two races so they can screw everyone over with their bullshit BOP. Then they also manage to have their only competitor penalized further for a bollocks "technical fault". Fuck them.
@Screwcaptain Even though Ford got penalized for the exact same thing Ferrari got penalized for earlier in the race. Even tho Ford had weight added to their cars right before the race by the BoP. lol ok. everyone in the GTE Pro got shit slapped for their cars. What, did Ford also make ferrari spin out on the track too? Were you even watching or listening to the race?

This sound is for me one of the most interesting and greatest sounds. When it flies by it sounds like a old warplane from world war 2 and it also sounds, that it's one of today's loudest racingcars. I know a video cannot capture the real sound of the car, but i think under full throttle it's way louder than a current Formula 1 car.
I like it when racingcars have this "wall of sound" when they fly by, like the old F1 cars or DTM cars, and sadly many series lost that (like F1), but this is a car that still has it, even with it's downsized engine and that's for me personally really great.

Best quality video with this car I've seen. Its shame that people seem so narrow minded that anything that doesn't Roar like a V8 or scream like a V12 automatically "Sounds like a Fart can".

Delighted that you've read what I wrote in the video description. I am the first to say that the sound isn't one of the best on the motorsport world but to like or not to like something is always subjective. To be honest I wrote those lines just because I was quite scared to receive so many dislikes on this video by how many people don't appreciate the sound of this car ignoring the video as a whole. Instead I have to restore my faith in my followers, so happy for that :)

Very nice videos. I really enjoy seeing the Ford GT LM doing its thing. That Ford GT LM is so low compared to the Ferraris in that class that must really give it an advantage for cornering and top speed.

Nice catch and a great video. That's a very distinctive engine note from that Ford, I like it and most importantly it's going to make the car easy to distinguish. It also looks very stable and quite easy to drive, if there was any instability in the chassis there would be a corner at Monza to find it. If they've got the reliability right this should be a real contender...

The sound was kinda weird when you compare it with the old GT Racecar. I expected a mean V8 sound but this is nice too. The sound reminds me a little bit of the Civic TCR car.

Really interesting vid, thanks for posting. I agree with those saying a V8 would be nicer, but Ford has to move with the times just like everyone else, going to smaller turbos. I know they worked really hard on this engine and it looks like it has paid off, it sounds awesomely responsive, it must have very little flywheel mass and internal friction.

When its coming at you and when its driving at a distance it sounds really good. Only when it flies by that it sounds like a dirt bike, do they not merged the 2 exhaust together?

The eco boost design allows you to have a very quick and responsive engine
I was reading an article about how the Coyote (5.0) platform was originally going to be used in this car, and Ford scrapped it and decided to put that engine in the Mustang. They initially planned to boost the coyote for this car. It was an interesting article and I wish I had the link to share it. Maybe some of you that are more interested in this will have some luck with a search engine.

What kind of lap times were these GTs pulling ?
Old video but i thought these had a slightly larger 3.6 not a 3.5 ?
My formative motorsport years where the '80's when turbo's where king. It's only due to being legislated out of most series in the '90's & 2000's did we see normally aspirated engines return. In a very short time most performance cars will be turbo, not only is the performance potential far higher, they can also meet increasingly stringent emissions and fuel efficiency legislation.
Engine sounds like it is breaking up coming out of corners. Traction control?
Its either anti-lag or Cylinder Deactivation (likely the former). Its more or less what is also being heard in certain F1 cars (The McLaren being the Loudest).
I bet if it revved higher it would sound nicer.

The reason it sounds like that is because the exhaust of one bank never connects with the other side, thus resulting in an exhaust pulse every 240 degrees of crankshaft rotation, just like an inline 3.

Changed the camera, now I have the "new" Canon HF G40 ("new" because it's 99% a Canon HF G30 with just new name and a new sensor which seems to me exactly the same as the old one..). Microphone is always my loyal Canon DM-100

Just beacause the only way to take some unofficial lap times is to take my mobile and timing the laps but I have both hands busy for filming and taking pictures

It's not scandalous if it wins. And it just did.
The ford GT isn't defined by having a V8 like a muscle car. It's defined by overall performance. In this case, a V6 is better.
What do you think car manufacturers are going to do about the lack of exhaust noise from all these new turbo cars with smaller displacements? Formula 1, ferrari 488, the new 911 and cayman etc. Everyone is complaining they don't sound as good. The FIA is even taking action to try and make F1 cars louder for the fans.
For GT cars you put the same engine (not literally same but configuration) that the road car has. So it is not like the racing car regulations forced e.g. Ford to put turbo engine in the car, because they first put one in the road car. For example Aston Martin still has big V8 NA. For free formula/protptype cars (F1, LMP1s) it is a different thing and the regulations mandate what they run, but even then it is THE manufacturers that wanted such rules in the first place.

Still prefer this GT LM GTE sound than M6 GT3 & 488 GT2 & GT3. At least it is loud & epic on full throttle. Remember when BMW replaces roaring V8 in Z4 GT3 into something much silent M6 GT3, or Ferrari replaces screaming sound of 458 GT2 & GT3 into not-so-loud grunt & chipmunked blow-off valve of 488 GT2 & GT3 ?

I swore I heard tests of this last year and it sounded awesome, like a grumbly V8 or something. This though.... My weedwhipper sounds better.
The sound is going to take some getting used to, but I can live with it. And no matter how much flak it gets; it still sounds better than the toyboy "racers" around here with their large exhaust tips.
On initial accel it sounds like the blown diffuser F1 cars lol

Considering it's a turbo V6, it's quite nice. Not quite the grunt of the GT-R GT3, but it's not annoying to listen to after 12 minutes like a number of other 6-cylinders *coughcoughPorschecoughcough*

I can't. It's too harsh of a sound for me to listen to without experiencing headaches rather quickly. The GT at the least has some bass to it at it's powerband and rev range
They'll do well at Le Mans, barring some odd reliability issue. The way the car's performed in multiple IMSA sessions and at Spa really hint at a car with a primary Le Mans focus..
Dude, believe or not but the Porsche RSR exhaust actually sounds very loud and great. I got to watch the race in the Long Beach Grand Prix. And the Ford GT too also sounded amazing
I know its opinions but a Porsche GT3R and RSR flat 6 is my favorite GT sound lol just ahead of the AMG GT3. could listen to them all day
