  • I got a watch for Christmas but the watchband needed a little adjusting. I thought I'd share the process. I forgot to mention that this is an Armitron. I'm not sure if different brands use a different system but this video may be able to help you with your adjustments. Enjoy. I lost both of my parents to cancer in successive years.
I recently found my dad's old seiko 5 watch. I serviced it once.
Now I wear it, remembering him )) . Seems to work fine. I fixed the links myself, it felt like I passed in a big adventure!

I think this was SUPER helpful. I bought a silver band for my Samsung Gear Fit2 and didmt want to spend more on getting links taken out than the actual band. This was a perfectly done video with very clear instructions. I did it all by myself, thanks to you. As for all the "its uneven" stuff, it's not that serious. Being off by one link doesn't make a hint of difference. Only if you're removing like six links like I had to. Even then, I took four from one side and two from the other and it looks absolutely fine. In fact, it put the flat part of the clasp EXACTLY in the middle of my wrist. Making it more comfortable. Thanks again!! 😘😘

Thanks! I went to WalMart, TJMaxx, Kay's Jeweler's, and Zales today. Zales would have done it for $15 and a 30 minute wait so I decided to go to a pawn shop. Called them on my way and they said $10 a link and 7-10 days wait. I really didn't want to mess it up but you made it look easy peasy! My husband and I used a board with a little notch cut out to allow the pin to pop out but it was just as easy as you made it look! So glad to finally wear my beautiful gift!

Thanks! Only major challenge was finding a stiff-enough yet small-enough wire. A safety pin worked, although I had to clip off the point, and the wire kept bending when I hammered it. I bent it so that the part under the stress of being hammered was only 1/4 inch long. The bend also made it easier to hold. And I got my wife to help hold the band steady, which also helped.

I did a google search to find a place where they could adjust my brand new watch, since I have very slim wrists when this video appeared among the results. Thanks this, I did it by myself and saved money. I used a simple earring and a wood cooking spoon to hammer it. It took me like 5min to push out the first pin, after that I found it very easy. Thank you so much!

isnt it necessary to remove the links from both sides to even out the watch?

no its not necessary at all. I've removed all 6 links from one side of my watch and it still fits even.

Hassan Ali, I was thinking the same thing...this video shows where he took out 2 links on the same side...doesn't make sense...it's going to be uneven.. also, I didn't know about arrows on the under side of watch bands...I tried to pop the pin from the arrow side where he shows in the video... the pin wouldn't come out...so I tried the other side and it came out...what's up with that??

Well done. Found that once you get one pin out, you can use it to remove other pins. Much easier than continuing to mangle a small screwdriver. Also once one pin is out you can use a regular hammer provided you use the removed pin as a punch to remove other pins.

Ur damn right. Why do new watch owners have to go thru this indignity with every new watch? Banging their watches on a counter top, watching it flop around with every hit of the mallet. This is stupid. Particularly since 10 years ago when they came up with this new phenomenon of 'fashion watches' which will last a maximum of 18 months. Buying watches so frequently and having to do this pin-banging absolutely sucks.
The only correct way to do this is with the tool that they sell for this very purpose. But should we really have to buy something for this purpose? Suggesting paper clips for this is really lame. Many paper clips are too thick to go thru the pin holes. This is my problem. You'll bang away and just watch your pin hole get stretched open. This is exactly how I want to spend a Sunday afternoon. No thanks.
I hate it when somebody addresses an issue that is justifiably difficult and then solves it with a bogus process/materials as was done here and then says its 'easy'. I have little doubt that he had already banged the pin out ahead of time and put it back in. He had far too easy a time at it. I took a similar jewelers' screwdriver as he did and bent the black shaft so many times that it finally broke off. I was able to get ONE pin out but of course - u need to get TWO pins out. This band that I'm dealing with really doesn't use shaft pins but elongated cotter type pings. They're under a bit more pressure I think.
Band makers need to find a better way to keep their links together. This sucks.

Well, only if you *absolutely* feel as though you have to have the clasp portion of the watchband centered on the opposite side of your wrist from the watch face. You'll obviously rotate/position the face wherever you want to on your mid wrist, who cares where the back part is particularly situated.

Attempted to remove the pin before watching the video and didn't realize watch pins were directional and therefore couldn't get them out. After watching this video, had the needed pins removed and shortened in 2 minutes. Thanks for posting this video.

If your watch doesn't have arrows it may not be a pin removed but a flap that gets bent upwards to release the interlaced link, if there is a gap crease in your links on the inside of the wrist, this is the kind of watch you have. May need a razor edge to wedge them off
