Sadly, as far as it has been said, The Emperor was and idea of JJ Abrams just for Episode IX. Trevoro didn't have it before he left (he was the first Episode IX director). But maybe JJ Abrams and Johnson knew that they could go by this way, because they two had some conversations with Lucasfilms about this trilogy in general. Still, I think this was the "best" idea they got in the pre-production of The Rise of Skywalker.
@Jacob Miller But he wasn't suposed to direct SWIX, so if he didn't tell Johnson and Trevoro didn't know that, I don't mind whether he knew it or not. Luckily (for him) he got to direct the film and could put the Emperor, because if he was the only one who thought Rey's origins were the ones we now know (to avoid sopilers) it doesn't matter, if Trevoro didn't know that. Probably he would had done a totally different film in which Rey had a very different origin.
And this is why John William's is a modern Mozart. You can laugh, but consider all he's done in his life. He's given us some of best memories and made us emotionally connected to our modern heroes. When he dies, we will have lost a genius.
@@paperboxes Almost certainly he did. Still, though... Every modern musician borrows material from what came before. Williams was trying to evoke a feeling, and The Planets evoked an otherworldly quality well for half a century. People knew that piece well. So little of Williams' output was affected by The Planets - look at the rest of his output. It just so happens that some of the more iconic music contains borrowed material. But trust me, it in no way disqualifies him from the mantle of modern musical genius.
Trey J. Anderson We'll see about that 300 years from now if people are still playing John Williams' music. Not to say I don't think he's a musical genius, I do, but people haven't been listening to his music for 300 years. Although I find it very possible, it hasn't quite happened yet.

I don’t know if this is true but those three notes that Rey and Kylo share, of you reverse them, they sound similar to the first 3 notes of Across the stars, which is the love theme between Anakin and Padme.
This probably is meant to show that Rey and Kylo Ren share a love for each other. I swear, they had this all planned out from Force Awakens. The Rise of Skywalker shows that this is all connected.
Ben + Rey = Bye bye Palpster. Anakin falls for love. Ben rises for love. Anakin falls trying to save his beloved. Ben rises that his beloved might be saved perhaps. Love is a powerful motivator. It's also possible he sees Vader (Anakin) as a traitor and has been going after Ben "with a vengeance", since he is the descendant of the man that threw him down that reactor shaft. Surely Palpatine would know that going after Rey would affect Ben.
Rey was a catylist of the force something like failed to do. Luke may have appeared to redeem Skywalker but in reality he let fear stop him and the "Jedi way" dictate how he would fight Palpatine. So ultimately his plan failed and Palpatine messed with him later to betray his son. While Rey did what she knew was right with the help of Kylo from a true Skywalker unlike Luke and Rey didn't care about a specific side, she cared for what was right. Which helped her to be more of a grey Jedi in a sense or simply beyond Jedi or sith. So with true light, she was able to defeat Palpatine. And Rey proved to be what Luke could not.

@@winstonsmith7584 I Think R.Johnson knew all along. He created a diversion having Rey as nobody. Kylo/Ben never lied to her . Her parents in order to protect Rey,never told about her lineage and sold her to Platt , So Kylo when had searched her memories had only that part of Info. He figures out the whole story on Exegol and on Passana after seeing Rey using Force-lightning. Rey gets shocked after touching again the dagger, hearing her own screaming, starting to figure out the reality. Also there is the fact that Snoke never had his own music theme but the Emperor's.
the way Rey's theme is so similar to Palpatine's but way more hopeful, joyful and!!cute! absolute genius, it's like her theme really tried to tell us from the beginning that yes she is related to Palpatine, but she's not the villain but the hero of this story
This is why I love music composers and soundtracks. Regardless of the new trilogy results and some utter weird decisions, THIS is how I still enjoy the movies knowing these hidden hints!
Kylo Ren’s theme matching the end of the Emperor’s theme is sort of perfect. Kylo was Palpatine’s last “apprentice” the very last person he groom to be the next Dark Lord of the Sith…he began speaking to Ben Solo before he even left Leia’s womb, so in a way Ben Solo/Kylo Ren was more the heir to the Sith Throne than anyone else, including Rey. She was more of a mistake, never supposed to happen, where as Kylo was Palpatine’s grand plan for the future of the Sith Order no matter how his other plans went…the plan was clearly always to turn Ben Solo to the dark side, hence he took 23 years of time to do so…he began speaking to Ben Solo before Rey was even born and he never stopped speaking to him even after he found out about her.
I'm writing an informative speech outline rn about leitmotifs in film scores, and one of the (my favorite) sections is on how motifs can be connected to others to reflect the situations their characters face. And because I'm the biggest nerd I know, I'm using Rey and Kylo's themes as my prime example. All that to say, this video will be cited in my MLA bibliography, and I thought you'd like to know XD.
Just found this. You were spot on! Good for you. Great analysis. And John Williams himself said the music was a guide to Rey’s ultimate identity and he didn’t believe she was “nobody.”
I CALLED THIS! Everyone in my friend circle thought I was crazy to theorize that Ray and Palpatine were connected. I am a huge fan of John Williams and even as far back as episode 7, I new it was no coincidence when her theme played I thought "Light side emperor theme!" I feel vindicated and validated!
Well that must indicate that JJ Abrams planned to introduce Palpatine as Rey’s grandfather before making episode 7. I bet if he would’ve directed all 3 movies the story would be much more coherent and cohesive...
the music playing during the moment when Ben joins Rey against Palpatine until the moment Palpatine says "stand together, die together" is almost affirmation of this theory about how Rey's theme rises from the last 3 notes of Kylo's theme
Its interesting that Kylo's notes lead towards an instability where Rey's begins there and continues. Perfect harmony with the way each of them lived and with the end of the series. Bravo! Mr. William's. It's too bad we can't bestow a "Sir" on him.
Damn I should have payed more attention to the music in the film for hidden clues. We all had the information under our noses of what was going to happen all along
John Williams made these characters themes so flexible because he knows Disney has no idea what they are doing so that when the time comes he can just extend that theme to match the personality
I’m way late to this, but this is an excellent video. Also potentially foreshadowing the Palpatine / Rey connection was the Luke saying “you went straight to the dark” when they connected with the Force, and the fact she drew and nearly struck him with a lightsaber when they briefly fought, while he wasn’t even attacking her, only making defensive blocks. Then there’s the whole shooting a hole in the stone igloo thing and cutting down the huge stone that nearly wipes out the caretaker below. There two are admittedly accidental, and show she’s impulsive but also that she has potential to harm, much like when she drops a tree on BB-8’s ass near the beginning of TROS (also foreshadowing).
Sadly, as far as it has been said, The Emperor was and idea of JJ Abrams just for Episode IX. Trevoro didn't have it before he left (he was the first Episode IX director). Just a coincidence. The Kyle Theme continuing from the Palpatine theme makes sense but Williams shares and reuses themes over and over. - The city chase theme in AOTC is virtually the same as the Qudditch match chase in Harry Potter. - The battle theme in The Last Jedi takes notes from the mobilizing military theme from his Close Encounters of the third kind score.
This is amazing!!! And this came out before the movie was released meaning you knew the major plot holes to the movie even before they came out which is insane!!! Just from the music 🤯. I love John Williams work and I love how his music tells a story (which is such a cliché) but it’s true.
Today, trying to make a Supercut of Kylo+Rey, I realized that Star Wars is an opera. There’s almost no scene without music, which makes it nearly impossible to cut short scenes and put them together in a different order. Your video is brilliant.
I always come back to this one. I am here now from The Acolyte’s theme for The Stranger. You hear Ren’s theme a lot with Osha and when she’s near this guy. The latest episode also felt like such an homage to TLJ so it makes me wonder if they’ll connect as the beginning of the Knights of Ren or something similar.
I love this. I have no one in my social circle who is into both music AND star wars to that level - so I'm just sharing my love and joy about this video and what it's about here with you
In hindsight, you were right with all your predictions. It probably didn't play out quite how any of us expected but you were still right. I don't believe for one moment there was a plan with this trilogy in regards to the story but I do believe John Williams was leaving nothing to chance musically.
I had noticed that Kylo Ren and Palpatine share the same inteval that is almost exactly the same riff, John Williams is a genius he probably has known some sort of connection since the 80s did you know anakins theme from episode i the phantom menace shares the same riff of the imperial march and did you know Kylo Rens theme does appear in episode vi return of the jedi right after Han Solo says Im worried im never going to see the falcon again!
woah woah woah woah did you literally just predict what would happen in the movie that somehow palatine...Returned!!! ps really loved the breakdown of the pieces notes!😄
This was far more telling than the face value of it too. The comparison between the start of Reys theme and the emperors is telling of her roots, her family. The comparison between the endings of Kylo and the emperors is telling of how it ended.

Winston Smith Yeah I agree imagine a Palpatine Vs Snoke that would’ve been intense! It’s obvious that Rey being a Palpatine now was planned in TFA but TLJ threw that out but luckily JJ got to tell the rest or most of his story again!!
@@michaelbuckelew They have similar fighting styles because Ian Mcdermid couldn't do a a lengthy complicated fight scene, he was an old man 15 years ago. And the Choregraphers for the Sequals don't have the same expertise Nick Gillard has. They are literally stick fighters. All the saber fights in the sequals were basic. Shadversity does a great break down of the combat on his channel. You people think these in universe fighting styles actually exist. They don't outside of a peice of paper. ANH saber sight was limited by technical limitation. ESB took adnavtage of Marks Kendo Background, same with RoTJ. The Prequels took advantage of the actors already known stage fighting and professional fencing talents, and Ray Parks parks Wu shu skills. None of the actors in the Sequals had any prior training or stage combat lessons. So yeah of course they are going to be similar
Also there is the fact that Snoke never had his own music theme but the Emperor's.
the way Rey's theme is so similar to Palpatine's but way more hopeful, joyful and!!cute! absolute genius, it's like her theme really tried to tell us from the beginning that yes she is related to Palpatine, but she's not the villain but the hero of this story
born in darkness yet fights in the light
This is why I love music composers and soundtracks. Regardless of the new trilogy results and some utter weird decisions, THIS is how I still enjoy the movies knowing these hidden hints!
JOHN WILLIAMS IS A GENIUS MASTERMIND OMG!!!!
Join with me
After watching this after the film came out... my mind 🤯
Same
Dude you nailed it!
Episode 9 explains a lot about these similarities
Can you make a piece combining the two melanchonic parts? Sounded so good already!
You probably already saw it, but I _did_ end up arranging these ideas into a piano video: th-cam.com/video/ngPn2jOjoZ4/w-d-xo.html
She was more of a mistake, never supposed to happen, where as Kylo was Palpatine’s grand plan for the future of the Sith Order no matter how his other plans went…the plan was clearly always to turn Ben Solo to the dark side, hence he took 23 years of time to do so…he began speaking to Ben Solo before Rey was even born and he never stopped speaking to him even after he found out about her.
everyone after seeing TROS: - talking about connections between Palpatine, Rey, and Kylo -
you: we been knew
Video is at exactly at 666 likes, almost didn’t want to click it but you were too right not to.
John Williams is an absolute genius.
I am a huge fan of John Williams and even as far back as episode 7, I new it was no coincidence when her theme played I thought "Light side emperor theme!" I feel vindicated and validated!
impressive most impressive and in the end she chose the light
Well that must indicate that JJ Abrams planned to introduce Palpatine as Rey’s grandfather before making episode 7. I bet if he would’ve directed all 3 movies the story would be much more coherent and cohesive...
The OT all had different writers and directors, too.
@@gamestation2690George Lucas was still on lead
the music playing during the moment when Ben joins Rey against Palpatine until the moment Palpatine says "stand together, die together" is almost affirmation of this theory about how Rey's theme rises from the last 3 notes of Kylo's theme
Its interesting that Kylo's notes lead towards an instability where Rey's begins there and continues. Perfect harmony with the way each of them lived and with the end of the series. Bravo! Mr. William's. It's too bad we can't bestow a "Sir" on him.
When they dropped the bomb at the theater first thing I thought was the music of Rey and Palps...glad I was right :D
Wow!! Congratulations on figuring this one out!! Amazing detective work!! 🎉
Damn I should have payed more attention to the music in the film for hidden clues. We all had the information under our noses of what was going to happen all along
THE TRUTH WAS ALWAYS THEREEEEEEE
Yeah. Just watch TROS. Watch it. John Williams is a genius. And everyone that says that the trilogy wasn't planned can stfu.
The way that Palatine’s cape completes the triangle 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
John Williams made these characters themes so flexible because he knows Disney has no idea what they are doing so that when the time comes he can just extend that theme to match the personality
It's so genius, it literally creeps me out.
2:44 I freaking love this theme, Palpatine is the main villain of every triolgy
Playing Battlefront 2, I always find Kylo and Palp's theme similar
John Williams always has his stuff together. Even if the movies don’t.
“It wasn’t planned”
Maybe Williams knew before JJ did.
blue_pearl_22 cuz logic :D
@@holygramatha4978 No cuz Williams is strong with the force LOL
blue_pearl_22 Very true tbh. The man’s a genius.
A god
One could say he has
UNLIMITED POWERRRRRRRR
@@holygramatha4978 You sir just made my day :D
This is amazing. Thank you for this. John Williams is truly a musical genius.
John Williams knew the plot even before the ones who wrote the movies. That, guys, is talent!
Glad someone made this. I couldn’t help but notice this in the previous 6 episodes and I did catch some of this in 7,8, and 9. Thank you!
Other youtubers have already pointed out the list motifs connect her to every legacy character. Thus was way back in 2017.
Here after The Rise of Skywalker. Nice video man. Now we see the real connections.
I heard the similarities between Rey and Sheev's themes, early on, and I think the masses just don't get how poetic VII-IX are.
I have no one in my social circle who is into both music AND star wars to that level - so I'm just sharing my love and joy about this video and what it's about here with you
I think this shows that John Williams actually wrote the entire Saga and just let Lucas take the credit
It's like poetry, it rhymes, each stanza.. well, hopefully it worked.
If you combine the themes, they actually sound great!
Thats dope, the music is 50% of why i love star wars. John williams literally gave us half the plot of rise of skywalker
Good observation - even before episode 9 have I thought this
This video should get more views, destroy that "no overall outline " argument.
Wow you foresaw the entire episode 9 with this
The only thing I noticed myself was the Kylo and Palpatin theme connection (3:23).
A DYAD IN THE FORCE BABYYYYY
my man's basically told the entire movie, through fucking MUSIC NOTES
he literally hit the nail on the head
Wow.... You got the plot from the music! That's impressive!!
What scene does Han say that?
The first notes you discussed are the same as some notes in Padmé and Anikan’s love scene. Which maybe... I won’t spoil!
It was in the Williams theme all along
Amazing
woah woah woah woah did you literally just predict what would happen in the movie that somehow palatine...Returned!!! ps really loved the breakdown of the pieces notes!😄
Nah, the leaks were out before the film even came out.
@@alexslusher16 oh, well still pretty cool.
This is what I was saying for ages! Nobody believed me hahaha
This was far more telling than the face value of it too. The comparison between the start of Reys theme and the emperors is telling of her roots, her family. The comparison between the endings of Kylo and the emperors is telling of how it ended.
I can't believe you got this so spot on like dude you literally manifested it
it's sad that THIS is the only foreshadowing to Palpatine's return
John Williams is best composer that ever lived
This just makes me love Rise of Skywalker more
