Thank you for this video and link, I made the set snd a manger out of the cut offs. It was a gift to my husband, and he loved it. I wish I could send a pic to show you. I plan on adding another one with Mary riding a donkey and Joseph walking next to her and each day getting closer to the star.
You are welcome! I like your idea of the "moving figures". I went to a church where the wise men were far across the church from the nativity and each day they were moved closer until they arrived at the manger on January 6, which is tomorrow (Epiphany). Thank you for your comments.
Thanks so much for the templates. My hubby and I will work on this for 2021 Christmas. It has always been a wish to have an outside nativity scene. I used to be a VBS teacher and I learned a trick on tracing so since I have a projector we will open the patterns on my phone, connect to my projector and trace it that way. It will be months, so I will definitely let you know how it turns out. Again, thank you very much.

Thank you! We created the donkey, camel and manger with Mary and Joseph for our 2022 season and the shepherds and wisemen next season. The display is beautiful. We added straw front and back and a rugged small fence behind and on the sides. The rebar tip is perfect to keep the display upright and steady.

I used semi gloss outdoor latex paint. I undercoated it first with Kilz white undercoat. I used a "Hot Dog" roller as you might have noticed in the video. One quart of paint was plenty for the first year, I am still using the same quart as I like to add a new coat each year. I hope this helped.

I used outdoor semi-gloss "Behr" paint from HomeDepot. I used my first pieces for two years now and the newer pieces were just used this year. I live in southern California and we get no snow and only a little rain. The sets stay outdoors year around under the eve of my house. They get little rain there and seem to not even need repainting. I had planned to repaint each year but did not need to paint this year. I hope that helps. If you don’t mind me asking, what state are you writing from? (I like to put a pin on my map for each reply I get.)
@@djhatton6858 Thanks Dan. If you anticipate snow, you could just lengthen the re-bar lifting it above the lawn level. You have plenty of time to experiment! Since you have snow now, use some scrap plywood and re-bar to see how it stands up to wind and snow.

I noticed I said 3/4" when the wood was actually 5/8". This year as I set up last year's cut outs (using 5/8") the wood had absolutely no bends or warps. It was stored outdoors in a dry place so that thickness seems to work well. The 3/4" would be fine but a lot heavier to haul around. (What location are you from)? I have had replies from all over. I started this scene last year and added this portion this year. It basically costs one can of paint $30 and a sheet of plywood $38 each year. (Plus saw blades and re-bar material...this price was given.) The nice thing is, it all stores flat so I can just pull out everything each year and use it again and again.
I put one coat of primer on the plywood and then added two coats of flat exterior white latex paint. I have enough paint left over from last year to put a quick new coat of paint on with the "weiny roller" every year to freshen it up. Last year it rained a lot and the wood was fine. I do think it is important to keep the bottom edge up off of the lawn (like I show) to avoid water "wicking up" through the bottom grain.
I have them now stored away in September. I was able to measure from my video image in the garage and the top of the shephard's staff is 47". You can estimate the size of the sheep from this.
