    EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!!! Your Stripology XL Ruler is hands down the BEST, most useful and versatile tool on the market and worth every penny! I have donated several of the individual rulers and templates I originally had in my collection, to beginner quilters, as I find myself reaching for the Stripology XL Ruler instead. I love that I can easily achieve multiple, accurate and repeatable cuts so quickly!! NO MORE STRUGGLE BUS! Ha Ha Ha ;-). Thank you for inventing this ruler Gudrun!

    My fabric is 21.5x21.5. Do I fold it as you did for fat -1/4, but without the little flap fold down….it looks like a big triangle. I just changed out all my rotary cutter blades & am anxious to get going!

    I finally dis this for the first time today!! Yay it worked. bUT I had a half yard piece of fabric and I still had short steips like a fat quarter. I need to play around with the direction if fabric when I start folding so I can maximize my 42” width maybe???

    Is there a FQS tutorial on sewing bias cut binding strips together without recurring the ends? Thanks!

    Is bias strips what you use to make quilt binding?

    • @roxannegodsey1261

      Yes but if your quilt edge has no curves they don't have to be bias, they can be straight cuts. Bias works best when curves are involved like with a scallop edge.

      Bias strips are stronger than straight cuts, so if going to use a quilt a lot, bias is better to use as last longer x

    I couldn't see what numbers the arrows are pointing to. The green cuts were fine, but totally lost me on the moving it over 1/4 inch. were the green cuts every 4 1/2 inches? would moving it over 1/4 inch, and then cutting at 2 (no idea where the next cut would be...) Well, I guess I can get the 1st cut of 2 1/4 inch...lol Do you have a video explaining that cutting math? I have this ruler and love it, but apparently I'm not using it to its fullest potential.
    Thanks!

      Yeah, I got lost with the measurements as well.

      I’m not a math person but essentially the chart she refers to has two set of cutting directions (essentially step 1 & step 2). In the longer tutorial she does for FQS they go into greater detail on the whole second cut process. When I saw it my brain clicked. It made total sense to me then.

      Hello Marilyn! Here is the chart that Gudrun uses: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2407/7723/files/Stripology_quarter_cuts_5929b506-db4f-4d1b-b08a-01559bdeace0.pdf?157

    Why are you making 2 different size cuts? why not cut them all at the 2.25 size

    • @FatQuarterShopTX
      @FatQuarterShopTX  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Chris! Gudrun wanted to demonstrate making different cuts at the same time.

      @@FatQuarterShopTX That reply is not correct. Gudrun made two different cuts to accommodate the fact that the slits on the ruler are 1/2 inch apart, so she first cut at 4 1/2 inches ( twice as wide as the 2 1/4 inch binding she wanted) then moved the ruler over 1/4 inch and cut each of the wide strips in half.
