Did a road rally on country roads a couple days ago. Only about 30-40 cars, but DAMN it was fun. My car is by no means nice, but I was almost able to keep up with the front group. It was also only a 8 hour, one day event.
What's the difference between a "rally" and a race? I thought rallies were reaching check points as close to a prescribed time as possible - not as fast as possible ?
Rob has made it clear that some of these dual lane highways in the US are easily and safely capable of running cars on autobahn speeds. It seemed ridiculous when he looked at the 65 speed limit on the GPS with no cars ahead of him, traveling safely at 155mph. I say convert the outside carpool lanes on the large freeways to unrestricted lanes and then apply variable speed limits, depending on current conditions.
+Louis Auto Actually I've always wondered how the tires do after going this fast for an extended period of time. Thats what I would be more worried about personally.
I like that Idea, you should have to go through an extra training course like Germany's driving education programs to be able to obtain a license to travel in the high speed lane.
2:20 your gas mileage will get better going fast for one simple reason, drag resistence notwithstanding. RPM and the miles you travel doing particular RPM's. For example, if your car has 6 gears, and you are doing 65mph in 5th, doing 2500rpm, you are using essentially the same amount of fuel as you would @ 80-90 in 6th gear bc the RPM's are at 2500 or so. Drag will decrease the fuel econ a bit at higher speeds, but you are going so much faster anyway that the decrease is less noticeable.
2:28 FYI your suppost to get in the left lane to let them pass! if you see headlights in your mirror ALWAYS move to the right if you can! i hate that when people sit in the left lane!
Not all cars are made perfectly though. Rallies test that and wear them out. Besides this is what Matt Farah plus some other rallyers have said. They've done it many times, they know more about it than us sitting behind computer screens making presumptions.
Well there are videos in which they say they have rented out etc. Perhaps from the car company itself? Either way Matt Farah posted against taking your own car to a road rally.
On what DVD is this? BTW I have some money saved up (About $40K USD), and I have my EVO 8 topping out at 185-190ish. Do you think I can possible join a road rally like this? Please tell me if I need more money (For Entrance fee and Tickets) and/or if my car is not fast enough.
Hey Rob, is the dustball Rally a good one to enter into the rally world with? Of course we don't have rides quite as nice as even your cheapest but would completing the dustball help us get sponsers for bigger ones?
+Brett Allen Most or all road rallies are for amateurs. You might be thinking of Pro-rally, which is extremely expensive, and you need to be a professional driver jusr to get involved, unless you are really wealthy & nuts.
+Tech Tips&Tutorials The SCCA has rallies all over- especially in the Midwest or OH, MI, PA, NY region, and the New England states. Check the SCCA.com websites for a rally near you
the problem with that is they probably wouldn't let you on if you had a street racing history, and it would hast have a speed limit ( legally ), it just wont work in america.
Well you could not go out to dinner sometimes or movies or other things that are extra unless you earned them. Skip that soda at the gas station etc. and put it into a separate bank account and forget about and don't use it.
Rs4's are fast guys but not Ferrari fast there pretty heavy compared to a Ferrari so yeah I woulda had a ECU upgrade for sure or maybe upgraded turbo and intercool er but the ur playin with ur gas mileage so really he did out standing and as slow as the Audi was to some cars it got much better gas mileage than others which helped him a lot
At the very end "is that the time of your life or what?".. makes me want to go on a rally even more...

This is why road rallies are simply better in the USA than Europe. Wide open spaces.
Whatzitt Tooya too many cops over here though, and jail time instead of fines. Plus traffic doesn't keep right and people report you. No thanks
here in europe they just take your licence for 5 years so you can't even drive a moped and hav to retake your exam
But they have the autobahn
nah that's the opposite, small roads are the best to do this on
Nevada would be the perfect place for an American Autobahn.
What's the difference between a "rally" and a race? I thought rallies were reaching check points as close to a prescribed time as possible - not as fast as possible ?
I've heard even the autobahn has a bunch of speed limits on it now.
How do you guys deal with all the tickets? I thought your car got impounded if you did more than 25 over.

Rob, once again you ROCK. Sorry I can't make it to NYC tonight for the Time Square event.. ugh... gonna be soooo GOOD! Be good and safe!
If you do it on purpose its not considered being a bad driver. (I even yielded)
my man!!!
We do this down in my city each and every time there's a car show, gotta love 4 lane highways
Seems like it would be tons of fun....then you have other drivers "I just got passed by an Audi doing 150mph....wtf"
Go buy all the dvd's people there all awesome.
I still love the rough cut footage like this better than the high production edits.
it's different to this in the uk
Rob, You're my hero!
Totally got to try this in my mini van lol
We have parts without speed limit all over Germany ! Its a very common thing to have "no limit" and drive the speed you choose =)
The US desperately needs an Autobahn
This is probably a stupid question, but isn't it pretty harsh on the engines to run at 130-150 for a long time?
It's not so much the speed, it's about how high of an RPM you're running.
AJ Greene In 6th gear there is a direct correlation.
+Louis Auto Actually I've always wondered how the tires do after going this fast for an extended period of time. Thats what I would be more worried about personally.
+Louis Auto Not in German cars, they're used to it ;p
The question isn't stupid, but the driver certainly is. He doesn't even have a decent knowledge of the English language.
In the US it's legal to do a right turn at a red light if it's clear.

autobahn is pretty safe, i don't know why we don't have a giant diagonal straight road from newyork to southern california.

Such a clear stretch of road
When on these rallys do you ever get random cars not in the rally trying to race you? Any interesting stories of such a case?
what kind of radar detector do you use and with what settings? mine doesn't seem to work as well
When's the newest edition of superspeeders comming out
Nice video man! love it!!!
fantastic videos rob keepem coming
Was the light green when he went through?
Rob you guys should do a rally race in Saudi Arabia lol, plenty of open highway out there
what kind of car was that passed him the second time, the silver one??
What radar detector do you use? You have a lot of experience running from and avoiding cops so I trust your recommendation haha.
are you ever going to use Shivams Audi for the Bullrun again?
I LOVE that drive from Laughlin to Vegas! Always gotta be careful going into Searchlight though! NHP are pricks about speeding through town!
Hey do you have day1,day2 ect. Would u plz upload those?
Why were you guys running with the audi? What happened to the cobra?
Hell yeah man, I wish my life was a kewl as yours..
Dude I was in Vegas when they came In it was amazing
rob what kinda radar detector do you use?
but are you cruising at 130-155mph while getting those 600 miles to a tank?

It's a stock 4.2 slow ski, what are you talking about? Needs a b5 s4, or C5 RS6 to keep up.
that sounded like a valentine one. i have one as well
I think its the intro to some song that says "ready, setty, go"
He turned right on red.
That's not a bad driver, nor is it illegal.
the bullrun cost 25grand to enter
so if you can afford it you can enter anything
How much is it to enter because i got a ford thaurs sho twin turbo v6 putting out about 200bhp
How did you get the RS4 into the states?

rob, will you be doing another bullrun :(? I love watching your vids
I am talking about the part right after 00:19.
Same, you get to see all the nitty gritty stuff
no..... its the part after that where he went STRAIGHT through it. not right. he meant 0:20
If I remember correctly it's about 15k-20k but my memory could be wrong.
How come he hasent uploaded for a while?
its from super speeders 6
Can someone explain what is super stressed and who is rob ferretti
try the welsh road rally championship
are there any rallies that anyone can participate in just for fun instead of having to be invited?
+Tech Tips&Tutorials bull run isn't invite it is a pay-to-enter

Most people spilt it a few ways. I want to get group of like 4 people and do it to.
Song name in beginning?
Did you seriously drive right through a red light at 00:19?
After the first light they ran straight through the other
Fucking great idea I'm in! need a navigator / second driver for sure.
My jeep could keep up with that Audi of yours. Lol. I'd only be getting 3 mpg, but at least I have a 20 gallon tank.
what part of germany tho
thanks dawgg
got to love vegas
You must be new to superspeeders...
the problem with that is they probably wouldn't let you on if you had a street racing history, and it would hast have a speed limit ( legally ), it just wont work in america.
what rally?
@Luis Martínez Go on the websites forums and ask a mod!
thats called a circuit or dragstrip 4 racers
what? tarus sho's (twin turbo eco boost) put down way more power than that stock!
3:14 what is that sound.
But does that Volvo score 6th place?
Yeah I'm thinking I'll just wait to save up at least 50K (Which will be by June 2013) For hotel and ticket expenses and make my EVO hit 195-200.
0:20 u completly ran that red light
Well you could not go out to dinner sometimes or movies or other things that are extra unless you earned them. Skip that soda at the gas station etc. and put it into a separate bank account and forget about and don't use it.
So lucky! I have been saving my money for a year only to $3500 damn I still need like $17500..

is this illegal?
Since when is 150 mph slow?
Why are you always in the fast lane with cars passing you on the right?
awesome
Ohh. I was looking at the clip right before that.
My bad. :)
Badass Peterbilt @ 0:30
"I'm going a buck 50 and this guy is coming up on be from behind"
I've gone 145 and that didn't look 150 at all. I'm sure it is.
I wondered why you chose an RS4. I suppose you're less of a cop magnet than the super speeders corvette xD
your in a RS4 and you cant keep up!? i find that hard to believe!
