The UK and France have today celebrated 120 years of close cooperation with special ceremonies in both nations’ capital cities.
8 April, 2024 is the 120th anniversary of a diplomatic agreement, the Entente Cordiale, signed between Britain and France.
To celebrate over a century of fruitful alliance, and the ongoing close military, diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations, history-making events were held today in London and Paris.
The 8th April anniversary is the focal point of a year-long programme of joint UK-French military activity affirming Defence ties between the two nations.
      Never before seen in London
Members of the Garde Républicaine, part of the Gendarmerie Nationale, arrived in London last week to rehearse for a never before seen ceremony in London. They were accorded the unique honour of participating in the historic Changing of the Guard ceremony on Monday 8 April, an honour only previously afforded to the British Armed Forces and Commonwealth countries.

For those who are wondering what Event is this. It’s to celebrate the 120 years of "the Entente Cordiale", The Franco British alliance 🇬🇧🟥👑🇲🇫🟦⚜️that was established in 1904. Just a couple years before WW1. Putting aside their differences and joining forces against the German. It continues in WW2, the great figure Prime Minister Winston Churchill wanted to strenghten the alliance however the French General Charles de Gaulle was against it.
Sort of like dissolve as time goes on
Same thing here in Paris near the British Embassy. A liitle ceremony, I should think
Both Former and Greatest Colonial Empires.
Cool fact, this isn’t these 2 joined forces. It also happened in the Crimean War 1853-1856 (Queen Victoria) againt Russia who were threatening the Border of Turks. The battle of Balaclava and Alma were a success
Go watch the movie the Charge of the Light Brigade, it’s reallly fascinating
33:56 Marche de la Lorraine. Such a good and iconic French song

I live in LA, USA 🇺🇸. Thanks for another fantastic video! Keep them coming! I like how you explain what’s going on, who’s who, and what’s what! Telling some history and other info about anything and everything to do with the guards and royals. If I may say 2 things: a suggestion and a request. First, some videos are ended before the event, or whatever you’re filming, is finished and I wish I could continue watching what you are filming. Is it possible for you to continue filming more? Like this video, for instance, where did the band, guards, and dignitaries go? Why didn’t you film where they were going or what they were going to do? I was left disappointed. Do I make sense? Second, sometimes, when you pan the camera around to show another area, etc., could you pan just a little slower. Everything looks blurry and I get dizzy, like I’m on a merry-go-round 😵‍💫🤢. Just some constructive criticism. Not meant as a put down. I love your channel and watch your videos almost everyday! Thanks for doing such a great job! 😁🤣😅👍🏻👏🏻👑✨🥁🗡️📯❤️

Why don't the police stop people crossing in front of the gates and it could be a security spot

About time the French and the British make friends, there are a lot of real enemies around. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is an ancient proverb which suggests that two parties can or should work together against a common enemy.

The past is the past. It's a good thing that we Franco British are allies after a Thousand years of fighting each other from the Hundred Years War through the Seven Years War 1756-1763, and until the Napoleonic War 1804-1815.
We finally made peace with each other after a long Colonial rivalry, put aside our differences and joined forces during the Crimean War 1853-1856 against the Russians

French Gendarmerie Nationale is the descendant of the old Marshalcy and Connetably of France, one of the oldest institution created more than 8 centuries ago. In commonwealth, there exoists an institution which refers and takes its tradition from it : the MPC (GRC), the Gendarmerie Royale du Canada. Indeed, after the loss of Canada, British government which was well aware that the french canadians coudl represent a "problem" for security of the colony recently won to the French. The French Mareshalcy was very reputed and well accepted by French canadians. Therefore, British gov decided to keep this mixed police/military force in service. It permitted to keep the public order in Canada over the centuries. Sure, they changed the uniform andthe armories, but their traditions, their status and their mentalities are very near to the french gendarmes of those old time.

They belong to the Garde Républicaine. They presented arms to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and the French Ambassador, so in fact they didn't actually take up guard duties in front of the Royal Palaces, so you couldn't really call it a Changing of the Guard as such. But évidement it was a very nice gesture. I think that it should be pointed out that the talks leading to The Entente Cordiale were initiated by King Edward VII in person. He was a frequent guest of the Breteuil family at their château south of Paris.

Good to see these two countries despite many years of conflict in the past they still have each other.
Remember, the French imperial Guards considered to be the best during 18th century, but later on defeated by the Duke of Wellington with his Red Coat army together withe the Great Prussian Army.
Nevertheless British and French now considered brothers.
