Great video! Appreciate all your other videos also. I believe those trail markers are called gabions. Met a guy with a mesh rock wall/column a few years ago and learned all about them then.

What a coincidence…I wrote a Yelp review earlier today for this hike. We went to Castle Rock, Bluff Lake, and Lookout Point 👍🏼

Do you know if swimming in Bluff Lake is allowed/acceptable or discouraged?

Is the service road car friendly or do you need a high clearance vehicle to get on it?

Very nicely guided video thanks for sharing some pointers too! When is the best time to hike both Castle Rock trail & to Bluff Lake? Trying to avoid warm weather🙂

Leaving at dawn is always your best bet to avoid the heat.

First comment but I love these videos. Have you ever gone just past the lake to Champion Lodgepole? I've been thinking that would round out the hike nicely.

Yup it's really cool - I have it on the list to do a guide this fall when the colors get more dramatic. Stay tuned...

Question Cris, did you injure yourself going up or coming back? Hope you are OK.
I actually have been up there several times in the late 1960s when I was in Indian Guides. One time in heavy snow, we road an old army half-track up there in several feet of snow. It has been always on my bucket list to hike back in there, so your video is additional incentive in the next few years. Great video and I will be using it as a reference down the road.

Nice, it was probably much nicer back then. Very crowded these days. For my foot, I smashed it against the granite when doing the last scramble up the boulders. Feeling better every day 👍👍👍

@@Hikingguy Hi Cris, there were a bunch of dorm type cabins across the lake at around 7:04. That is where we stayed a couple of times, one of those times in the snow when the halftrack took us up to the lake and cabins. There was a pool too.
I just looked up that reserve and they said that the movie "The Parent Trap" 1961 was shot there with Hayley Mills and Maureen O'Hara. O'Hara is one of my favorite actresses and Bluff Lake is one of my favorite and oldest memories, so I just added the dvd to my Amazon List.
Thanks again for the video and I am glad you are healing well, and I still like old fashion hiking boots better then hiking shoes! My current set of HiTec's needs to be replaced soon, so here we go into getting those replaced...
