    Thank you so very much, I have looked everywhere on how to remove Subcuticular sutures. I was going to do it at home, but I think it is best if I wait a couple of days until I see my doctor for the follow up, in case the suture were to break. You have helped me and I appreciate it.

    What r the cases that,the doctor do not use the obsorbable thread?

    • @MEDICINEinaNutshell

      You can use an absorbable suture in cases where the absorbable suture remains strong enough to keep the tissue together until the tissue had healed. I use absorbable sutures for most of my suturing, except suturing skin on the face, where I normally use polypropylene or nylon; this is because on the face I would normally use “simple interrupted sutures” to get the best skin edge closure with nicely everted skin edges, to get the best cosmetic scar possible. However, as the face has such a good blood supply, the wound heals more quickly than elsewhere in the body; so the sutures can be removed in 5-7 days, thus avoiding “stitch marks”
      Not all absorbable sutures retain their strength for the same period, so you must choose the correct suture for the task. You may find the following video informative : the absorbable suture loses the strength required to keep the tissue together.
      Hope this helps.

    I got this stitch 2 months ago, stitch was left in though only the knot at the end was cut off, any chance you know how long itll take to dissolve?

    • @MEDICINEinaNutshell
      @MEDICINEinaNutshell  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That all depends on whether it is an absorbable suture, and if it is, which type of suture exactly; as not all sutures are absorbable, and different types of absorbable suture each disappear over a wide spectrum of time (from a few days to months).
      If you can find out exactly which suture type was used I can advise.

    I have lumps in my c-section stitch and it is very painful. What should I do? It was non absorbable... From before they remove sutures it's painfull n swollen.

    • @MEDICINEinaNutshell
      @MEDICINEinaNutshell  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Difficult to know exactly what is going on, but, depending on how long ago you c-section was, these may be areas of inflammation around the knots of your deep dermal stitches, or infection (if c-section was not long ago); or lumpy scar (hypertrophic or keloid), if op was weeks ago

    What will be the effect if non absorbable suture left in the skin?

    • @MEDICINEinaNutshell
      @MEDICINEinaNutshell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same as with any foreign body; it may become a nidus for infection, or the body may either try to extrude the suture material or form a capsule around it to isolate the suture.

    Do they leave the stiches forever

    • @MEDICINEinaNutshell
      @MEDICINEinaNutshell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the stitch used is absorbable, such as PDS or Monocryl, the portion left within the skin shall be absorbed within weeks. If a non-absorbable stitch, such ads Prolene or Nylon, then these need to be removed. Hope that clarifies things.👍🏽

      Sometimes, a patient's history indicates that they would have an adverse reaction to the material used in dissolvable sutures.

    Why type of tape is this please?

    • @MEDICINEinaNutshell
      @MEDICINEinaNutshell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use either Steristrips or Suturestrips; just the brands easily available at the hospital at which I work. Any surgical adhesive dressing tape may be used, as long as the patient does not have an allergy to the tape material or glue.
      Hope that helps.
