Hi Tony, Very interesting video for me that was. I have the smaller brother to the FT897 that being the FT857 and like the FT897 the FT857 also comes as a FT857 and FT857D. The tcxo you refer to also fits the FT857 too, so I will be interesting to see how you get on with that, In fact all those accessories and displays appear compatible with my 857 so it will be very interesting so see how you get on with the accessories too.
Just picked up one today. It had all the whistles and bells. Power supply, 4 batteries, voice card, AT tuner, meter, all manuals and storm case. Could hardly believe my eyes. Can’t wait to get my license.
Mr. Albus, thank you for this video. I just bought (2024/03) a FT-897DM (?). I am happy to have this “shack in a box”. The manual I received was in Japanese language - sadly I cannot read it. The menu is not my favorite - but - that is personal. It transmits voice and CW well - And receive is good, too. All the best, KQ4IXD
Thank you!.. that is a great catch! it is a very nice radio. on the website of yaesu you can still find the manuals also english. enjoy! 73 Tony PE1ONS
Hi! Thanks for this video. Watching I’ve noticed that the D version has the 3 crystal filters already with the kind of dust on the outer case. I’m talking about those three black filters next to the murata filter. That is a sign they’re failing and is just a matter of time until that radio will quit working. I suggest you to order those three filters too and replace em. Perhaps you could also make a video on it. 73s
The FT897 and the FT897D have small differences on the PCB. Also the outputs are different numbers. The FT897D has the oscillator PCB fitted. All the rest is the same.
In my ft 817nd I had an oscillator board like in your non d. The tcxo option is the same board you have in your d version. Rumor has it that the clone tcxo has more phase noise than the factory one. Curious if you can measure a significant difference.
Great video Tony, thanks! I love my FT-897! I think it's no "D". I want to used for digital (Winlink) but I have to learn how to setup the ALC. Jorge VE3EAD
hi tony great video, i have a yaesu ft897d had it 12 years never had an issue with it in all that time. great raadios mine was from a silent key sale and the guy used it on cw only with 25 watts no more it was in box and mic had never been out the box. i feel i need another so i can have hf and 2 meters ssb running at same time.
@@TonyAlbus I have also learned something from you and this video, I didn't know you could change colour by band or mode...etc, now the word 'fix' makes sense .

Serial number starts at 7 and everything looked exactly as you D version except mine has M2 on those places you said m9 and m6 board had V2. Can anyone please give me the best settings for TX audio please as I've struggled to get good TX audio. Thanks in advance

Thank you Ian, Your FT857 looked very nice.. its just a bit more compact, i liked that. Yes let's see what the TCXO and Ext.Meter will do.
I was missing you video and review, my friend !! Nice and knowledgeable review, I enjoyed it a lot !

If the serial number starts 2F60.... would you think it *is* or is *not* a D model?
Many thanks.

I have a question. if I use ft-897 mic with ft-897D, so does it work.?
yes it will
