PG’s Chris Kies headed over to the War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville to hang with Pierce the Veil lead guitarist Tony Perry and chat about Perry’s love for ESP Vipers, why his favorite amp is a modded 1971 Super Lead, and what prompted him to go with passive humbuckers.
Guitarist Tony Perry has been a loyal ESP user for years and this particular 6-string was one of the first instruments he received from the brand. This Viper is the basis for his new signature model. This oldie’s paint job is actually a vinyl application done by Tony’s friend, but the production models have a traditional paint finish. He originally started on SGs, but parted ways after realizing he preferred the 24-fret Viper’s bigger body, higher fret access, and overall balance. The original neck pickup has been removed to make room for R2D2 and the bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB humbucker. (Perry’s stock signature model comes with just the bridge JB.)

They are so thoughtful and intentional on how they do what they do. Makes their music stand so strong years and years later

2. Its really interesting and its nice to listen to such stuff :D

I like PTV's guitar work in all of their albums, they sound so different, they've incorporated their culture and prog-punk-rock into it which makes them unique from other bands that boomed in their generation.

I love that most of these interviews have comments from people who know what everyone is talking about, but these comments are just people who have no bloody clue whats going on except for the fact that Tony is talking in an interview for once

5:43 Welp this had all the exact info I was looking for. Great video. Was wondering if they used baritones for those Drop B tunes. I wanna learn to play them but I just have regular scale guitars. I do have beefy slinky strings on one of mine though so it's cool to hear that Tony would do that before he actually got a baritone for live shows.

he's been doing it for about 10 years so I think he's used to it and they play shows all the time to he's probably used to it

Not all guitars are built alike and this goes for weight as well. The lightest i've seen a guitar go is about 3 or 4 pounds (Strandberg).

Maxon TS808 into a Peavey 6505. One of the guitarists (Ben, I believe) also has a signature amp sim plugin that's surprisingly good, given that he's kind of a shit guitarist. Both guitarists have signature Ibanez's as well.

David Oakes the neck pickup just being there will change the sound slightly, that's why you would get a single pickup guitar.
I facepalm harder everytime a musician says that the tone pot is worthless.
Gabe Burciaga depends what type of music you play and how many guitars you have. I play with 3 different guitars as my mains depending on the tuning, when I'm playing technical death metal in drop A i never use a tone knob or a neck pickup. But too each his own
I play death metal as well as prog rock/metal type stuff and I tend to use the tone pot as a lead boost. I set the tone base at about halfway then when the time comes I just crank it. But there is also no right or wrong way to make art so to each his own.
