Jade's playing style is very unique and diverse! Their song arrangements are on point, not too simple not too difficult, which make it interesting to listen to AFI.
I'm a 48 year old studio guitar player, and, I must admit, I'm not a huge fan of this genre(?) of music, but to expound a bit; much of AFI's material doesn't really sound like anything else. Jade is a great guitar player who has some of the best rock tones I've personally heard, live or studio. He kills it, and does this shit right.
@@brpadington I get that, especially assuming you're more a Danzig guy given your username. They couldn't be more opposite. I personally like his voice, especially on their earlier stuff. His voice on Shut You Mouth and Open Your Eyes is the most aggressive I think he's ever sounded
@@TheAnonymousBosch I definitely think he is talented. I liked his voice on the later albums. I thought he sounded great on the Son of Sam Songs from the Earth album.
I liked AFI a lot as a teenager and then drifted away some time after Sing The Sorrow came out. Although I relate the band to my adolescence- as a guitar player myself I feel Jade's playing is very special!
I've searched for gear rundowns for Jade for the past 4-5 years and freakin lost it when I saw this today!!! He's my favorite guitarist! He got me into les pauls and I've always had a black (studio or standard) in my guitar arsenal since! Thanks so much for meeting up with the guys and doing this interview!
I am aware of but never been into this band. (nothing wrong with the band. I am just old...)This is a great Rig Rundown! What a great a down to earth conversation about what these guys use live and in the studio. Thanks Jade and Hunter! Great job Chris and PG!
I love that the guy interviewing is an actual fan, you can tell, I appreciate that. too many times it's just generic rundown of questions but this felt better. loved it 🤘
Chris Kies again did another amazing job. I got to meet AFI a few years ago and they were absolutely some of the nicest guys. I wish I had Chris Kies job. Again another stellar interview and episode. Thanks Premier guitar
One of the best rig rundowns I've watched. I've heard like 3 AFI songs my entire life but his questions are so awesome and interesting about the music and his techniques. You could tell he was loving it haha
Love that Jade is using that X-Series DigiDelay. That was my first ever delay pedal, that I got free when I bought a Whammy. Back before the GAS took over...
I took guitar in high school (class of 2005) and did my written report on Jade :P So happy there still going strong! Just saw them live and Jade killed it!!
Thanks for doing this. One of my favorite guitarists and goes unnoticed a lot somehow despite the band being around for so long and basically legendary.
Just saw these dudes play last week in Omaha. Hate on the new albums all you want (lord knows I do), but god damn they can still put on a show, and Jade and Hunter both absolutely shred.
Finally I've found someone that has a love for the Gibson Les Paul Studio as me. My favorite, most sentimental, and coveted guitar is my 2002 Les Paul Studio. However, if you are a Studio Les Paul fan like myself, you should try an ESP-LTD EC1000 Deluxe. Lighter, thinner, and very comfortable.
I may still rocking my original 1995 I picked up in 95. It's still in great shape and is an all black. Sounds great going through a stack or even DI with a sansamp into an API512c preamp!
15 more days til Im reunited with my favorite 4 guys for another touring cycle everyone who hasnt seen AFI yet get ur tickets for this tour now. Hope they come out on this tour as well. I7 tour dates of talking with the guys wasnt enough 😂😂😂
I am life long Metal and grind core Die hard but there's something so awesome about AFI and this guys riffs. This dude creates amazing song structures that are all his own style and genre honestly
I love the fact he’s rocking Houston’s own Diamond Amps!!! I’m just digging all of Jade’s tunes these days. The fuckin guy is almost unheard of and his riffs and songwriting are absolutely sick.
I’m with Jade on the Gibson LP Studio,my favorite guitar I have ever owned not to mention best bang for the buck and the stock pickups really do sound great
Finally! Some love for L.P. Studios! I don't know why folks put them down, they're the same woods and electronics as a Standard just without the embellishments. In a live setting with distortion 99% of the audience can't hear any difference and I bet a large number of players wouldn't either. I don't understand gear snobs who have to bring $10,000 vintage L.P.'s on the road. The audience can't tell the difference and touring really takes a toll on gear. Save those vintage beauties for recording and your private collection and beat up on an affordable work horse on the road! I've played my '95 L.P. Studio almost exclusively for over 20 years and it has never let me down. It is bone stock and sounds great. I play bar gigs so why bring a comparatively expensive guitar to a bar gig where my cut is $50-$100? I've seen guys bring their $3000 Standards to local gigs and then they're worried about it all night! They're afraid to bump it, they have to watch it like a hawk between sets, they even worry about temp differences between the club and outside when they're loading/unloading. I really encourage anyone to grab a Studio and tell me they don't love them. Once you get passed the fact that they're plain looking, you will find that they are great players.
theruley Same. Not my thing but Jade seems like a cool guy & Kies is my favorite host for RR. Jade knows his gear as well, I always find these more enjoyable when the player is into gear & knowledgeable about what they're using. The blue Les Paul is purdy. 🤤
Omg he has the Despair Faction card I still have stuck on his rig. On this tour I showed to get the merc specials and the roadie was like whoa this is really old. Lol
Only able to get AFI and Citizen. Circa was the middle band and were crunched for stage time before the show (probably because we ate some AFI's time and things got pushed).

My main issue with AFI is the vocals.

He's exceptional regarding genre. His tone is killer
I've watched this probably too many times to be considered a casual fan of both Jade and Rig Rundown.
Person: How old are you?
Jade: between the ages of 18 and 45
Lol
Finally an interview on gear that isn't boring. Great job!
Dude, major props for asking about the intro of 37mm. That's such a cool tone.
I've searched for gear rundowns for Jade for the past 4-5 years and freakin lost it when I saw this today!!! He's my favorite guitarist! 17 year old me would be as nervous as Chris. Never seen him like that; clearly a longtime fan.
I love that the guy interviewing is an actual fan, you can tell, I appreciate that. too many times it's just generic rundown of questions but this felt better.
loved it 🤘
So glad Chris did this since he's so into them. This is as good as the APC one.
Chris Kies again did another amazing job. I got to meet AFI a few years ago and they were absolutely some of the nicest guys. I wish I had Chris Kies job. Again another stellar interview and episode. Thanks Premier guitar
AFI has a piece of my heart man. I am beyond excited for this! And as always Chris asks the best questions. Thanks again man
One of the best rig rundowns I've watched. I've heard like 3 AFI songs my entire life but his questions are so awesome and interesting about the music and his techniques. You could tell he was loving it haha
What a humble person, no ego just real! Mad respect long time fan. Your clean sounding distortion is unreal
I contacted Dunlop, Jade uses Tortex pitch black .60mm picks. haha
haha he's fangirling!!
Big time, but that's why we love Kies!
"If I get my chance I'm gonna ask him- I'm gonna ask Jade this..." YES
Can you really blame him?
Haha he totally is!
AFI sounded amazing live when I saw them about a month or 2 ago.
Dude- yes! I've been looking forward to this for years. Jade is my fave. The songs, performance, and tone- my god. AFI fo life.
Jade's live tone is so legendary, this was awesome to see. Those Diamond amp heads are $2,500 each. Ooooof.
Oh God, thank you PG!!!
great interview, love jade, what a talented and original player....great songwriter too!
Love that Jade is using that X-Series DigiDelay. That was my first ever delay pedal, that I got free when I bought a Whammy. Back before the GAS took over...
A man of class, a man of taste
Jade appreciates his stock pickups
Love Hunter & Jade! Very chill guys and great to their fans. 🤘🏼🙏
This was so awesome to watch & interesting! Great guitar collection! I LOVE AFI..
These are so awesome when the interviewer is a huge fan of the band. Well done
Finally! AFI !
I dig this guy. Soft spoken, doesn’t take things too seriously.
AFI, thank you for using actual amps
Love AFI and jade and Hunter thank you 🙏🙏🙏😍
Just saw these dudes play last week in Omaha. Hate on the new albums all you want (lord knows I do), but god damn they can still put on a show, and Jade and Hunter both absolutely shred.
I was at that show too. I nearly lost my shit when they played Clove Smoke Catharsis. Great performance!

That neck is what does it for me, as well as the simple finishes.
I can attests to EC 1000s, they're very good guitars and very good bang for your buck instruments especially if you go the used route
him: 'these guitars are SOO heavy!'
me: he weighs 27kgs
Chris is adorable. He turns into an excited punk kid whenever he meets a band he loves or when he meets one of his heroes.
15 more days til Im reunited with my favorite 4 guys for another touring cycle everyone who hasnt seen AFI yet get ur tickets for this tour now. Hope they come out on this tour as well. I7 tour dates of talking with the guys wasnt enough 😂😂😂
damn i love afi. they're so good.
Jade: This one’s in D sharp
Meanwhile I’m literally trying not to yell “Eb!!!” at the screen.
same lol :D
Amazing interview
Ive stopped listening to AFIs newer stuff, but these guys just seem like really cool, humble dudes.
19:24 i love that Hunter’s bass strap is a seat belt screwed in. 😆
Been waiting for something like this!
Love the DF card on the rack
oooh I have that same Godspeed You! Black Emperor t-shirt!
Love AFI, and Jade. Thank you for this video.
Well done, Chris! Love the passionate interview : )
They're such nice, humble, down to earth guys
I am life long Metal and grind core Die hard but there's something so awesome about AFI and this guys riffs. This dude creates amazing song structures that are all his own style and genre honestly
awesome stuff! :D I cannot blame Chris for near fangirling. I would have probably done the same and more.
Watching Chris and Hunter talk was probably like looking into a mirror for the other guy
I love the fact he’s rocking Houston’s own Diamond Amps!!! I’m just digging all of Jade’s tunes these days. The fuckin guy is almost unheard of and his riffs and songwriting are absolutely sick.

Robert L i picked up a faded studio 2016. Plays amazing.
That's why I use prs SE.
You rock! Hunter's SVT bass settings. Inanely useful information!
Love these when it's a good band. Just waiting on the holy grail of Parkway Drive now..
Kim Ned- kemper and esp
Not a big AFI fan, but this was still a super cool rig rundown!
theruley Same. Not my thing but Jade seems like a cool guy & Kies is my favorite host for RR. Jade knows his gear as well, I always find these more enjoyable when the player is into gear & knowledgeable about what they're using. The blue Les Paul is purdy. 🤤
........... hunter is everything I would expect from a bassist
OPPORTUNITY MISSED to ask Jade if he takes credit for creating the Puget Sound.
Love this show learn a lot and love learning bout new bands and artist
Jade was always great at making his guitar sound like a piano. Truly unique musician❤
A man of practicality, a man of pragmatism
Jade doesn't need a wah peddle on the road
Great rig rundown!!!
really glad chris brought up dancing through sunday... on of my favourite solos of all time
Hunter is awesome... seems like such a chill dude. A perfect counterpoint to Davey's eccentric nature. Kinda like Eric Melvin and Fat Mike.
I saw AFI at the Avalon in Boston in 2006. They were amazing.
Awesome!
That thumbnail is hilarious. Jade's face and body language screams, "No! Don't touch my baby!" 😂
Big AFI fan, not a guitar player at all but I enjoyed hearing Jade talk about all kinds of stuff I don't know about.
I am pretty sure there were a few moments he was contemplating going in for a kiss.
John H You sir, are a restraining order in the making.
I thought the same thing this is hilarious I love it
He's a great and underrated musician.
A FWC shirt? Now I want a Lagwagon Rig Rundown. I love Lagwagon.
I saw afi open for smashing pumpkins at darien lake. They were amazing!
I saw them open for the Pumpkins at the Molsen Amphitheatre in Toronto
I've played one of those all silver Les Paul studios and it was SO heavy.
Best tone in the whole underground, hands down .
2:28 "you can feel how heavy this..." picks it up like a fork "Oh yea...."
Jade: I had 22 guitars stolen from me.
Interviewer: "Wow"
omg I can't I love all of them (Davey, Jade, Adam, and Hunter) I swear I can't take it😍😘💖
I love that black Crash Studio LP 😍
Jade speaks a language I can understand... no bullshit!
Massive respect for AFI, even more respect for someone who will go to those lengths to hide going bald.
D
He's not going bald lol. Dude just very eccentric.
anyone who says at least one of the afi era's didn't make them wet, is just straight up lying
I've never owned or voluntarily listened to anything from AFI (minus having to play their song in Guitar Hero III)
Darrien Day all about the pre sts material I love it
I had never heard of them until now, and now that I have, I like their music about as much as the guitarist's haircut.
Darrien Day sing the sorrow bruhh
Darrien Day dude, I saw your comment on real estates video for darling, your everywhere haha
I'm glad there's videos like this on TH-cam because looking it up online is like .. ok but how do they use it???
I would be so stoked to talk guitars with Jade
Omg he has the Despair Faction card I still have stuck on his rig. On this tour I showed to get the merc specials and the roadie was like whoa this is really old. Lol
This guy is such an underrated player!!
That blue standard is so beautiful
I was like - oooo typical all les pauls and p basses - until 21:45 sucha sick pickguard, its like magma
lmao Hunter is like, "Dude I'm just along for the ride."
but under all that Hunter is a Huge contributing sound of the band.
Bonus point for the Fat Wreck shirt. Great interview.
Man, I kind of wish you guys would have got Circa Survive too.
Only able to get AFI and Citizen. Circa was the middle band and were crunched for stage time before the show (probably because we ate some AFI's time and things got pushed).
I definitely understand, I'm just internet complaining. This was still great. Thanks for the response!
No problem - Thank YOU for watching!
Oh fuck yeah you guys got Citizen. I'm hype for that!
At least Brendan did that Board to Death video for Earthquaker Devices.
lol, I had 6 of these white studios.... six... It took me 3 years to finally pull the trigger on one!
26 high school football heroes disliked this
Would love to see a Robin Finck/Nine Inch Nails rig rundown. Any chance of that happening?
wish Granted:th-cam.com/video/ntIDyFx2Co0/w-d-xo.html
I like a bass player who isn't a diva about it - just took it out of the box and started jamming.
Leave the diva'ing to Davey
These are great, can you make one with the Blood Red Shoes?
Takes me back to the days of seeing them at Gilman back when they repped OBHC
love that godspeed shirt
I love this band..good ol rack system
