Ignoring for a minute that Liam Smith jibed JR for giving excuses, what for me is absolutely appalling, is that when Smith was injured, he allegedly let himself get 42lbs over his required weight. Any high-level, professional athlete should never, ever let themselves get that out of shape. Who on Earth has he got around him to let him continue to blow up in size when he has a big fight later in the year?
Everyone demolished JR for his alleged poor attitude, but quite frankly a weight gain of that magnitude shows Liam Smith did not take this vaguely seriously.

But he did just stand infront of jr the whole fight and get beat up like a punchbag didn't he , he's only explaining why that was. If you think bo mac has waved a magic wand and eubanks suddenly turned Into Robert Duran then I think you need to sit down and have a rest for a minute

I would also feel God awful if I had gained and lost three stone in that timeframe, but my point is that it is grossly unprofessional - frankly it's beyond that.
Regarding the trainer comment, which I'm unsure how it relates to Smith's inability to limit calories, I do not think Eubank is now some elite fighter. Evidently the names he called out afterwards showed that he is not there in my view.

I injured my back which is a reoccurring problem now and when it goes I can't walk for around 3 plus weeks if I'm lucky, which means I'm literally bed bound. If he had a bad injury and was laid up it's easy to pour on weight. On average, I'd do 30 steps a day just going back and forth to the loo. If he was say 12 lbs heavier before camp and weight cutting and then did his back in you can see how he could add an additional amount of weight. Some fighters walk around weights are surprisingly high which is insane . Look at Peirera in the UFC and what he has to cut, it shouldn't be allowed really.

That was the first time I saw Eubank jr follow a clear plan in the ring, He was disciplined and strong and that was the best I've ever seen him box, I always thought he had that in him. Like his dad he's never listened, I loved senior but he was the sloppiest most disjointed fighter I ever saw, what won him most of his fights was his bravery, strength and durability coupled a hail Mary right hand. Ronnie Davies used to be a mute presence in his dads corner, a comfort blanket with the occasional slap for the showmen.
Junior also has seniors attributes and stubbornness but also more natural ability, He hasn't had a bad career and has made good money, imagine if he had a proper trainer and team in his corner from the off he could have been one of the great ones. Unfortunately his dad was a malign influence on any trainer that tried. Eubank need's to stay with Bomack and keep the structure of a proper team, he may yet do something of real note.

Something was wrong with Smith. Unfit and that was clear from the start. I don't accept the excuses of weight gain or bad back. He got in the ring and he should have been 100%. He's a professional. Eubank was the best I've ever seen him. He deserves the credit for such a good performance. It took me by surprise. However, Eubank has never been world class because he doesn't have the power that champions possess. That said, I've been to his fights and I enjoy watching him. He has made millions without ever having a world title fight. That's great work. I don't see the point to a trilogy here. It wasn't even close. I'd much rather see Eubank/Benn. Let's hope.
