Two facts I only learned since the internet... "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" is a chapter in Graham Greene's "The Wind in the Willows." And Lucifer Sam was actually the name of Syd Barrett's siamese cat.
""Arnold Layne", "Matilda Mother" or "Astronomy Domine" would also be a good choice to get an impression of early Floyd. And "Interstellar Overdrive" ... still great, but a scary piece of psychedelia.
Damn! Youre going deep! Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is the best record of the 60's, the one that encapsulates it the best, but a pretty deep set of cuts, and criminally overlooked, a little dense , a lot strange, but a beautiful and catchy record if you give it a chance.
I've always thought Syd a much more interesting guitarist than Gilmour, who stayed more or less within the pentatonic scales. Syd was an 'explorer' in life and on the neck of the guitar....
Syd was a mad genius! Unfortunately, he went quite mad, due to constant use of LSD, and had to leave the band. He had been the principal creative force behind the band up to that point. R.I.P. Syd Barrett.
1987 i was working with a girl who was a member of a pentecostelistic church. One day she came to work a told me that she had attended a concert in the church and the artist had played with numerous artists. She told me hes name but it was at home the same day i understood who she had seen. I mean playing in a church in Sweden? So the day after i asked her some questions and yes it was Syd.
Syd Barrett permanently retired from music in the mid-70’s in order to save his sanity after losing Pink Floyd. He also reverted to using his birth name Roger, and apart from a brief spell living in London, he never left Cambridge, England. He wasn’t religious at all either. I think there was a communication error between you and the girl.
Can you react to Stick Figure? Above the storm, Once in a lifetime...man, so many good ones actually. Or Open My Eyes - Kbong (My husband and I walked out to this song at our wedding)
Early Floyd blazes with originality and inventiveness! Everything on this and on "Relics" deserves a listen for starters.

Kenneth Grahame's Wind in the Willows.
ok boomer read antoher book
Wow I read that book
Didn't Syd gave his cat LSD to experimentate what it would do to Sam?
I love this song. The whole album is worth hearing.

"See Emily play " too !
Yes, that was the Syd Barrett Pink Floyd. Peace. :)
One of his best no question.

One of THE greatest tracks ever recorded.
Very 1st album by The Floyd. excellent tripping album
You should listen to "See Emily play" and "Arnold Layne" from the same Syd Barret era.
WISH YOU WERE HERE !!!! Pink Floyd's best song.
I've always thought Syd a much more interesting guitarist than Gilmour, who stayed more or less within the pentatonic scales. Syd was an 'explorer' in life and on the neck of the guitar....
Syd was probably more interesting than everyone in everything

FAve song ever! First youtuber I've seen do it! Thanks!
Astronomy Domine!
I was surprised that this track wasn't released as it must be one of their most commercial songs. I love it. RIP Syd.
It’s on their first album. You mean as a single?
There's also a reference to Unsinkable Sam … the cat who went on a British warship in battle but survived
Syd probably thought his cat was a witch and was talking to him due to all the acid …..
probnably
The title reminds me of Supernatural and the time Lucifer possessed Sam Winchester. 🤣😈
My favorite song on this album.
Early Floyd can be a bit “out there.”
Ooooh please do Astronomy Domine by Pink Floyd!!!!
👂" Interstellar overdrive " (stereo version)
Mono version’s better.
I was ten and didn't hear my first rock n roll until I was 14. This is a big ugh for me. Very glad they changed.
PF went from whimsical to depressing. If you dig that, well, everyone's entitled to an opinion...
First two Floyd LP's should be in all schools as point.
Agreed as Piper and Saucerful are two of the best Psychedelic albums of the 1960s.
Syd Barret genio crazy 👽 rock star
sounds like the theme from batman lol
It does sound like James Bond. LOL! It's a shame Syd Barrett fried his brains.
This whole album is different.
Please react more early Floyd. Syd Barrett was a genius
Also then hip cat meant cool dude a guy who knew whats new happening and aware what's going on.
Great choice!! Listen to " career of evil " from blue oyster cult. Might like it too.

Very early Pink Floyd. Sadly Syd became a smaller part of the band - although his influence is still there now.
Well, now you may as well do "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict." It's on Ummagumma.
Hello greetings from Chile. you can react to "the Jaivas" " The powerful death "is the pink Floyd is South American.
ESTA PIEZA ES UNA LOQUERA.
Soon after this, Syd Barrett developed brain damage from taking LSD and was replaced by guitarist David Gilmore.
