This man is truly world influential and definelty one of the highest people in the fashion industry. His desgins wasn't just innovative his beliefs and clothing was for everyone and brought joy, he was very humble and selfless, I hope his art lives on throughout time, rest his soul.
I am very ashamed that I think I may have only heard his name before in passing terms. I’ve always been interested a bit in fashion but never fully delved into the world let alone the makers, so to hear that he had brought so many iconic designs and revolutions to the fashion industry is amazing, and I only wish I had known this when he was still with us. it’s also amazing that he had created so many beautiful things, in order to help bring an end to the memory of that day in WWII. I think that will have a lot of weight with many people. There are so many great Japanese fashion designers and other artists that are some of the best in the world in my opinion, and he might very well have been the best of them. Thanks to this, I will be doing a lot more research into his life and the impact he has had on everyday life, not just in the high end fashion industry.

RIP Master Designer Ossey Miyake. Been a fan of his since his clothes were first sold at a few in San Francisco and it blew my mind. Also Steve Jobs used to wear Issey black turtlenecks that he was famous for but not a fashion guru. In one of Steve Jobs movies, he said when he started Apple, he wanted it to be styled and run like Issey Miyake and Sony. So the whole Apple image and style was influenced by ISsey and Sony and very Japanese. I may have discovered Issey before Mr. Jobs bc in 82, only a few serious fashionistas were interested in Issey. But I’m glad Issey is now a fashion legend bc he deserves it. You may have had to be around in fashion in the 80s to know the impact he had on fashion bc now everything is so radical, it’s hard to stand out. But back then only a few could pull it off and have ppl. spend thousands on for those wild designs. Which was always Art and timeless.

I didn't think his designs were anything revolutionary - I think his main skill was manipulating movers and shakers in the rag trade.
No. His ideas and inventions of new materials were revolutionary. His micro-pleated weightless polyester clothes using proprietary heating techniques; his seam-less one piece of cloth with no buttons, zippers or snaps that you could wear any way you want; clothes that never wrinkled or lost its shape after machine washed - those were his inventions and they were revolutionary.
