LYRICS
Here we are
White coats in rows
Torn from the years
They’re threaded with
the fears you wove alone
Before we go
It’s time you paid
You can hold your nose, tilt your head
But this one’s just a bit too big to take
It’s great, ain’t it?
Put it in your mouth and chew it
It tastes good once you do it
All the things you’ve done and said
Shoulda stayed in your head
Put it in your mouth and chew it
It feels good when you do it baby
And if you think you had enough
We think no, no, no
Here we are, we’re kings of pain
We plodded through the years
We banked our tears
Inside these empty shells
So you know
This pill’s your own stuff
You shipped it out en masse
You shed the past
But not the ones you stuck
We’re here, what the…
Put it in your mouth and chew it
It tastes good once you do it
All the things you’ve done and said
Shoulda stayed in your head
Put it in your mouth and chew it
It feels good when you do it baby
And if you think you had enough
We think no, no, no
Now you want the axe to fall
You’ve had enough
Well, so had we

I'm 68yrs old and hope I live long enough to hear a collaboration between Michael League and Steven Wilson.
That would be mind blowing!
I'm from morocco , these are moroccan musical instrument , never imagined that someone could get this much potential from them, micheal ur in another league compared to other musicians, ull be always be my favouriste
I see what you did there.
I see what you did there.
12 out of 10 for the pun, sir 🥇
i was always waiting for this ...from the day snarky puppy were in saouira ...salut from casablanca morocco
Like a......Michael League?
I believe that's how universal music language may sound like .. Perfect balance between Ancient/Modern, Acoustic/Electro, Trad/Pop .. who else hears a little of MJ here ? .. Can't wait to listen to the reste of the album !
Agreed!
I totally agree.
Michael has truly grasped the sound of multiple cultures!
When I first heard this album on Spotify I was immediately hooked by the ethereal pop-jazz sound, and I think this is on my top 10 songs ever now!
My first thought was: "This guy must be famous, yet he only released one solo album..?". Then I googled him and found that he has won 4 grammy awards!
Astonishing talents!
edit
Thanks from Denmark, Scandinavia
Michael's music is in another level
you could say he's in his own league
100%
Much praise to Michael League and Snarky Puppy's of the future.
And many thanks to those who push music forward from the past.

Pharoah Sanders - The Trance Of The Seven Colors. (LP) ✨
That's Moroccan Ganawa music dude. That bassline is older than most countries.
To all the musicians watching and listening...
There are two schools for notating exotic rhythms like the ones here in "In Your Mouth"...
The first school is the Don Ellis + Hank Levy school -- notate the rhythmic subdivisions as the composer composed/conceived them (e.g. "America" from West Side Story is notated in 12/8 subdivided 33 222 instead of 4/4)
The second school is the Pat Metheny school -- Pat Metheny composes a lot of music in exotic time signatures with odd numerators. I have purchased all of Metheny's notations of his compositions -- I was surprised to see that he notates everything in 2/4 with stratified layers of syncopation overtop.
I believe that "In Your Mouth" is in the Metheny school -- everything syncs to 2/4 despite the exotic stratified patterns built on top of the metrical foundation :-)
Hah now I can’t unhear a more modern still life and/or letter from home…. Definitely given some food for thought there.
I see a daf, I click. This guy is new to me, but if you read this and you ever have an opportunity to see a classical Persian or Kurdish folk concert where the daf is featured, prepare to be moved. In the hands of an expert it's one of the most powerful musical instruments ever invented. It's like an oceanic snare drum that could force you into enlightenment whether you like it or not.
Welcome to Mr. League, he's by far one of the best Contemporary Composers in our era. He's the Mastermind behind a band called Snarky Puppy which is the embodiment of keeping it fresh ^-^ amazing bass player and band leader
League possesses the undeniable quality to create music that wants you to listen, and listen back, and back again. The first listening sounds ordinary, the second one unveils interesting nuances, the third one gets you addicted. Wonderful and haunting composition.
Am from Morocco and am proud to see ma dear Michael playing The Moroccan gnaouas instrument the hajhouj or the gambri, very glad of you
Mind. Blown.
Damn dude. You’re making the best music of your career to date. And that’s saying a lot.
Morocco + Peter Gabriel inspired this. Amazing!
Ever since you went to Morocco to learn more about their music I was impatient to see the results of that experience.
This surpassed all my expectations. 5 minutes of pure and innovative music. Much respect!!
With love from Tunisia
How you guys going over there? Tunisia is the first place I want to visit when this nonsense is over.
@@joshlovegood9392 well its hard to answer such a question these days.
Security wise its safe.
Covid wise we reopened the country with barely any restrictions for locals (just a curfew at 10 that most people do not respect)
Beside that we just gave the same issues most countried have due to covid (unemployment. Strikes. Civil unrest)
If u want to visit now ure gonna have to do 1 week of quarantine. But summer here is better than most countries because its open its sunny and beautiful.
Wasn't expecting this when i clicked, Got an early Peter Gabriel vibe about it. He experimented with tribal instruments as well. Thanks for sharing Michael.
Bill Burr's podcast brought me here, Andrew has a great taste for music..
Mr. League....his infusive improvement in his musical style goes beyond the metaphysical universe.
Every time i hear Snarky Puppy and yours players musicians and nowadays his solos ....my anxiety increases waiting more and more for others to come.
Thank you for allowing the creator to put it in our lives.
I believe his music will be picked up for movie soundtracks
MICHAEL!!!!!! I was not ready!!!!
Haven’t heard something that made me this excited in a while!!! Thank you Micheal!
This is like a dream.. surreal...
Knower > Snarky Puppy > The Lighthouse Band brought me here. None of it prepared me for this. Holy $#!+. Beautiful, and so weird. Calls to mind the great Hunter S. Thompson quote: "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." This is amazing!
What did you think of Right Where I Fall?
I discovered this song yesterday. I liked it instantly and listened to it a couple of times. Woke up this morning with the desire to listen to it again.... Wonderful. There is so much sound in this song!
Morroco forever bravo Michèl hommage a la musique gnawa
Michael, it´s good for us to have so many you!
So clever music! You can find everything here. From ethics sounds and rhythms, jazz, even classical harmonies to Seattle grunge vibes and drives... Thanks Michael!
This is a masterpiece Micheal, the key changes and percussions are sick! So glad a friend recommended your music to me, I am grateful to her for this.
So glad to see musical instruments from my home country used in such a beautiful song.
Greetings from Morocco 🇲🇦
Keep the good stuff coming.
grande grande grande grande
con bombo leguero y todo!
Definitely inspired by Peter Gabriel.... and LOVE the juxtaposition of the Moog synth bass with the traditional ethinic instruments. Great track, bravo.
Yeah Michael, like the Moroccan influences on this one. Percussion is sick. Ready for the album drop!
Good gosh this is absolutely awesome, unique, deliciously groovy music.
هذا السيد يحب هذه الموسيقى، يبدع فيها، ويجعلك تعيش في عالم آخر...
Michael is such a genius wow
Getting major TooL vibes from this
That GROOVE
Michael's music gives me an out-of-body experience.
I agree. Goosebumps the whole time I listen this. Gaaahhh
I was so confused and upset when Mike left Forq- I get it now.
This is gold.
I'm feeling/counting this in 4. Everyone else doing that too?
for me it feels like a bar of 15/16 and a bar of 4/4
i would guess that there is some rhythmic displacement goin on, but underneath it all it might aswell be 4/4 .. i mean he sait he would keep it "pop" :D
In 4 for sure, but interesting displacement as far as where 1 differentiates for the bass/perc parts. Killer!
Moroccan Magic .. Just Beautiful !
Turkish Davul sounds amazing!!!
Both songs released so far are absolute bangers. I'm so ready for the album!
Find me another pop song with guimbre and daf I dare you! Absolutely killer Mike, can’t wait for the album.
Listen to Everlasting Motion by Jacob Collier feat. Hamid el Kasri; it is heavily influenced by Gnawa and has Moroccan instruments
@@JazzyJasperZ Jacob is of the same species as Michael, soo....
This ain't pop though... is it?
@@thomaswarren2699 Mike is calling this a pop album, and so far I think I’d agree with him. But you’re right, definitely not Taylor Swift style pop haha
Genius!
Yess
Oh gee damn Michael League but I love witnessing you grow & stretch & reach & dig & evolve…CC from DC here enjoying the journey…
Not only is the music great, the video production is fabulous!
Morocc'n'roll !
Mike League's videos are an education for me in exotic instrument names
this is a JEWEL!!!
Great song with amazing sounds & vibrations, listening all over again&again 😊👏
Phantasy does ignore borders.
Perfecto!
G.r.e.a.t.❤️❤️❤️❤️🎼
This is outstanding. Mike is in another league.
He’s in the Michael League
@@jcb.98 You see what I did there.
I’m in love! This song is so many vibes! These chords are life-giving!
3:36 Bombo legüero, papaaaa. Aguante Argentina.
Constantly outdoing yourself Michael! BRAVO.
That hand drum groove is off the charts.
that modulation is so positively crazy and unexpected haha - really really love the style of your album so far! Just such a great musician man, loads of respect for this creative mix of awesome things!
Unsure whether I should be flabbergasted about the mastering, the meter or the visuals. What a build-up!
He’s the Midas king of the music!
That drum break is STANKY
Amazing song, lyrics, video, arrangements. Michael League is the best. Plus extra bonus points for the clear inspiration of 'Chocolate Salty Balls' by Chef.
feeling a little Dirty Loops vibes tho 🥵🔥
Yep. I also thought Jordan Rakei
Maybe a tiny bit of Zero 7 too....
There's a yet another dimension to Michael League...good to know. 😀
That's so awesome! Really getting some Steven Wilson vibes as well!
Finally I have someone else to add to my Jacob Collier/Becca Stevens list of musicians I listen to on the daily!!!!
Good taste. You surely know both Jacob and Becca have collaborated with Michael League in his Snarky Puppy project.
@@xebio6 Indeed :)
Michael actually put together a cool playlist of his influences and a genre he considers "Smart Pop" - check it out :) open.spotify.com/playlist/4qxon4z8dksnTYMT2i5afQ?si=3f5559d954d048af
@@groundUPmusicNYC I saw it, sadly didn't appeal much to me. I bet when I'm older I'll be more versatile in my listening, but for now I have a very niche group of artists that I listen to exclusively. Maybe I'm weird.
try louis cole & knower!!
Michael League! Gran Innovador de la música. Cada vez nos sorprende más! Gracias!🇦🇷🇦🇷
Saludos desde chile! Que gran gusto musical tiene señor!
@@zatoichiMiyamoto Agradezco tu saludo, un abrazo desde Buenos Aires! Y a seguir con la buena música!
Amazing Michael!!
whaat ? I didnt know that Michael is singing as well and doing his solo projects :) thats awesome !! great song
blown away by this, thank you
That's what coming to morocco feels like
Another great track from Michael. Been fortunate to seen him live with Snarkies three times. Great musical soul.
This is absolutely genious, incredible and amazing. What am I supposed to listen to now... I can't wait for the new album, I'll put it on repeat 24/7. Michael is a blessing to this world and a music mastermind. Thank you so much for the wonderful music you write and play.
I love u my monster 💪🏾😍
This is awesome. Reminded of Stephen Wilson. Those two should work together.
Beautiful
Total Tool vibe on this one!
Not all 5/4, 11/8, 7/8 Or whatever timesignature is Tool, 🙃
@@robertlee4061 moreso the vibe/ostinato throughout the tune is what gave it that feel to me
YES!
Just awesome. Michael is just a master with rhythm, Love the moog in here n the Moroccan instruments shine, thanks for the groove
Michael League is my hero
SO good!
Sweet sweet syncopation yes
que lo re parió aguante league!!!!!!
Freakin' Genius! Keep 'em coming, Mike!
Awesome! Michael the King! All you do is a treasure for ears and soul. THANKS A LOT!
Nice crunchy texture
I love this, Michael ! Got an 80s singing style to my ears. I’d love for you and Kimbra to collaborate. This seems to have a similar vibe to a lot of her stuff.
I always expect something different from Michael, but I always find myself surprised. Amazing!
This piece is spectacular. The music is multi layered audio ear candy then Mr. League hypnotizes us with his mist vocals multitracked.. Greatness League! Moar!
He does it again. This is stunning and I can't wait to hear the album in full.
I don't think this is pop music... but it still excellent!
Sublime use of the Krakeb and Ginbri and great to see Michael on vocals. A brilliant vocal arrangement, a brilliant track - can't wait to hear more!
Micheal has created a league by himself
What a tune! I got the feeling of Plant's Spaceshifters. Brilliant!
In my mouth? Superlatives fighting to be first out.....
Amazing wins.
Michael League is in that extremely select group of people who are outrageously brilliant without being remotely annoying.
Ha, so well stated, agreed!
Whouaw, very impressive, all in a Gnawa ambient, and finally we have a great song !!!
Sick. His cosmic and sonic apertures are wide open.
Great song and video! Love the end.
Pure Magic!
Fresh sounds! This album is going to be fantastic.
This is absolute fire, take my money already
