I recently watched ugly Betty and it had so many sets and each episode was 40 minutes and each season was 20 episodes. And they released a season every year. How come nowadays it takes 2 years for 6 episodes?
Hi John! I've done a more extensive analysis on this topic if interested! First and foremost, Percy Jackson season 2 was delayed because of writer strikes. They were working on season 2 right when they finished season 1, but got stopped due to the strikes and were only allowed to begin writing again once high streaming numbers came in. Also the article has not considered that the regular time it took to make the first season (such as casting, set design, and scripting) would not be as much of a hindrance since many of the sets are already built such as camp-half blood, and many of scripts for season 2 were already completed. I find these articles people make are a bit dramatic since this was public information ever since writer strike was hit, it was already well known that the actors would age. The actors will age, but so will the characters, even if its a bit more than what was expected, it wont change my enjoyment.
@@mcthorwmalows Percy jackson is a series of books. So it's impossible to do the series justice in one season. It would be like doing only one season of the harry potter books
@@metallicnole4514 i know but thats the problem of western tv series many people in asia dont watch it until the series is finish.why because many series are unfinish..no ending..
It shouldn't take this long to film a 10 episode show that's only 30 minutes ...like this is what's wrong with streaming now and what's ruining the tv landscape. TV didn't have these crazy wait times, only movies did, but ever since streaming it's like we're implementing the movie model and changing the tv landscape for the worse. And before someone says CGI takes a long time. If Game of Thrones could pull off coming on every year (for the most part) around the same time, there is no excuse for other shows.
Walker Scobell has already skyrocketed in height since the release of the first season. Also doesn't help that Book 2 takes place immediately after Book 1. I know it's unrealistic thinking, but they should've taken a punt and just filmed two seasons back to back.
What makes it even worse is that I really felt like I could see them aging even in season 1. All three of them, especially Scobble really looked older and sounded older than he did from episode 1 to episode 8.
Right now they’re almost done writing season 2 and will probably start filming this summer/fall. Also part of the reason filming takes so long is because of child labor laws for child actors, they can only work a set amount of hours.
This is the biggest problem with all streaming shows. It's been 2 years since Stranger Things 4, 2 years since Umbrella Academy, 2 years since House of the Dragon, 2 years since Rings of Power. These were/are all popular streaming shows but here we are with no new season to watch and in the case of Stranger Things it may be another year yet. It's crazy how long it takes them to make 6-10 episodes.
I have watched a number of shows where I really enjoyed the first season but watched so many shows between the 1st season and the 2nd that I couldn't really remember it. If I have nothing else to watch I will watch it but quite often I don't bother.
From the small section of the article shown in the video it doesn't look like they factored in the strikes to the calculations so productions shouldn't be as a long as the first season was.
I was thinking about it recently. Regularity and momentum is very important to a show's success. I feel that both TV and gaming industries are facing an issue that really needs solving which is production time which is getting out of hand.
It sucks that it takes so long. I can’t even defend it for House of the Dragon. Game of Thrones released 60 episodes in 6 years, 10 episodes a year. And it was the biggest episode on TV. By far the worst two seasons of the show took the longest to make, time to make does not equal quality. House of the Dragon is on track to take 12/15 years to release 60 episodes. Possibly more due to popularity of cast and ballooning budgets. That is ridiculous. It should not take that long, make a fucking movie if you want everything to be movie quality. A TV show is supposed to be easier and quicker to make, that was the whole point and why going to the movies was special. Trying to make every TV show movie quality is just not viable in the long run. Heck look at The Boys. It’s taken so goddamn long to get the new season. The Last of Us, Euphoria, HotD, Percy Jackson, Stranger Things, Invincible, Severance, Andor… and probably loads I’ve missed. It’s no coincidence to me that this all happened after COVID, tv companies realised people were happy to wait 2/3 years and it’s way cheaper to shoot a season every 2/3 years than every year. I think it’s a happy accident for the TV networks and they’re happy to wait if people are. Andor especially is a weird one as it is going through a year and a half of post production ffs.
It takes long because it's good. I'm not a fan of just rushing out content either. As long as we have other shows to watch in the interum....which is the real problem...they cancel good shows. Because they didn't get good ratings, but they at least gave us something to hold us over.
@@wkadalie But there are many many shows that demonstrate that it does t have to take that long. Many people still call The Sopranos the greatest show of all time. It released many episodes a year consistently for years.
The problem of western series is they dont have a long term plan..they only relay on ratings..whta i mean..the best way to do a tv series is finish first the whole scripts before starting shooting then if season 1 hit then its easy shoot backto back season 2 and 3 because the scripts are finish..

Because the age of having kids work Non-Stop and missing out on key years of their life because there are way working or over

The only solution is finish the scripts first before starting shoooting the film..or try what korean drama do..one season only..

Eh just adjusting the story to not take place directly back to back is not a big change to fix things.
Book two takes place a year later.

Wasn’t there a writers Strike in the middle of the first production of PJ?

That’s a really good question how is it when in a day and age seasons are shorter but they take twice as long to come out?
As long as they start filming bits from now, it won't affect the timeline the characters are supposed to be in
Film season 2 & 3 simultaneously would solve the aging problem. Might as well if season 2 is expected in 2026
Percey Jackson was pretty good. If the first season was strong enough then they should just start filming season 3 as soon as they finish season 2.

the wait for hotd is criminal & they don’t even seem to be in a hurry to start up season 3 😭
Yea they should've figured this out with the kids aging and getting taller and what not.. Another 2 years to wait for Season 2 is crazy
Love that he slipped in the protesters into the conversation. I agree with him though.
I think 🤔 Marvel should adapt The Squadron Supreme on Disney +

Percy Jackson and X-men 97 should be top priority! Scrap any Marvels or iron wars if you must
That's too long for anybody to care
I honestly could see Disney just de-aging the actors a bit to take the edge off. But I do not know what they’re going to do about their voices.
Director: Make an acuter voice, Walker.
Walker (with acuter voice): i'm...i'm trying...
Director: TRY HARDER!!
