  • I've been working on this kit for a long time and I'm really happy to present the completed model. This was a really fun kit, I'll probably get another in the future.

    Thanks for posting and sharing. Loved the build video, appreciate your choice of accompanying music. Skilled result in your hands of a beautiful model from Tamiya despite now being a 20 year old tool. I learned quite a few things from your build I intend implementing in my own. I chose this edition of the kit over the special Yamamoto Edition because I wanted the early colour scheme with open torpedo bay OOTB. Shame to waste those seated crew figures though. Tamiya unusually supplying only three in the box in this version, I'll be turning to another Modelkasten figure kit for extras.

    Great job on that kit! I like it a lot. (I have 2 in my stash - the standard Bomber and the Yamamoto transport boxing of it.) I do have one query: In the Video you identify the underside grey as IJA Grey and the Topside Green as IJA Green. (IJA = Imperial Japanese Army) The Mitsubishi Isshirikko G4M1 was a land-based Navy bomber in WW2. (IJN = Imperial Japanese Navy) and the two services were such rivals that there was little or no commonality of parts, equipment, aircraft or paint. Mitsubishi IJN Green is a very different dark green to IJA green, which is close to a dark Olive drab. The IJA grey was a light greenish grey, like RAF Sky but paler, where IJN grey came in several shades, one of which was similar, but the others were a true light grey or blue grey.(The ONLY aircraft I know of that was used by both services was an Autogyro, a license-built Cierva design, and even that had a different engine between the Navy and Army users, usually.)

    • @rebelsatcloudnine

      So what is your question?

    • @brettpeacock9116
      @brettpeacock9116 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rebelsatcloudnine For your future reference... Your end result is still a very nice model!

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brettpeacock9116 On many of my other Zero builds you might see that I paint the underside with JA Grey, because in my studies I've found that the Tamiya JN Grey is too blue and dark, and that the JA Green better matches Japanese Navy aircraft. In the case of this G4M, it was painted with the earlier war colors of brown and green. I decided on JA Green because it had a more olive tone that matched the picture references I was studying. The JN Green as beautiful a color as it is, is far too deep and bold to properly compliment the faded brown that I used. The fact that the bottle said Japanese Army had little to do with the choice, I used it because I thought it was a good compliment to the brown.

      I first painted a base coat of flat white, this would help the red lay better and become a brighter red. Then I sprayed Tamyia XF-7 Flat red, and glossed the paint. I used a circular stencil to cut out the appropriate sized circles, and positioned them accordingly.

    If I can comment again...I have always thought it is a shame that we put so much work and detail into engines, cockpits and interiors and alot of the time we cannot see the work. I have always thought that kits should come with the option of having clear see thru engine cowlings and fuselage sides etc so that we can show off the detail! or at least a portion of side or top of the planes so we can see in.

I built the Zoukei Mura 1:48 Gotha 229, and I was really excited as you have to build the interior and wing spars, etc. And then they gove you clear parts to put overtop it all, but the clear parts were frosted and on purpose! I can't figure out why they'd do this, when the kit seemed to be designed to be seen?

    I just love watching you guys .
    Airbrushing camoflog on military aircarft .
    Your lines are too uniform .
    Too strait .
    In the military camo was had painted by hand with brushes .
    Imperfections made it more effective .

      True a lot of things were hand-painted, but also most aircraft were painted with an airgun in the factories before they were deployed. There were large mats that the RAF used as templates for painting their aircraft. As for the straight lines, you'll have to take that up with the Japanese Army, I was only following their instructions.
