    I'm glad that DCT is gone. But they took the 1.6 out. I would hopefully thought they would put the 2.0T with the 8 speed. That would be awesome. And have the 2.4 as the base engine.

    It's interesting how people are whining so much about the MPG's on the window sticker but they don't make any comments about the window
    sticker indicating a 5 star safety rating in ALL categories except rollover which most SUV's get a 4 star or the 10 year/100K warranty.

    • @dancedwards

      The MPG isn’t remotely competitive with Honda or Subaru. It’s shockingly bad. I like Hyundai but I can’t believe those numbers.

    I can't stand that game-console or tablet stuck on the dashboard look. It's like they forgot to design it into the dash, and at the last minute just glued it to the top. Unfortunately many cars do this now.

      As an owner of a 2018 Tucson... i really think the 2019 is a step backwards in engine and compartment design... I got the last of the "good" Tucson designs for the next few years at least.

      I like the screens like that. Looks modern a sleak. I think the screen in the dash looks tacky and dated. Also it's nice that they added a larger displacement 2.4 ltr over the 1.6T. You won't have to sacrifice reliability for power in the higher trims.

      The DCT is also used in the Hyundai ioniq and the Kia Niro both the regular hybrid and the plug-in hybrid version. I actually think the DCT works better in those cars, because the electric motor gets the car moving and you don't have that slipping the clutch issue did you often find with DCT.

But how exactly are you supposed to drive a DCT? I mean, I get the hesitation is normal for a dual clutch, but it would hesitate multiple times in a row to where it jerked out into traffic and then stop, much like a standard shift if you couldn’t get it into gear.

    I have 2015 Tucson and I'm sad to see the 1.6 Turbo go but it's good they got rid of that dual clutch transmission. Hyundai already had recall on the dual clutch transmission on 2016 literally 1 year after the redesigned version. The dual clutch on my Tucson still have issues when the car is in slow speed. It won't shift down to 1st gear when in low speed and if you hit the gas pedal the car jerks and then shift down or up. It's a really annoying transmission issue 😑 . I'm seriously concerned about the longevity of my dual clutch transmission. Hopefully Hyundai will keep their promise about warranty if something unfortunate happens!

      Shaun the Turbo Tucson was the selling factor of the Tucson. It gave you the throw-you-back-in-the-seat fun and performance you expect from a small crossover. I've actually surprised a bunch of people with how fast my car is. A lot of people didnt expect it to feel so powerful. It is one of the faster offerings in the segment, and again, Hyundai made a horrible decision to get rid of the turbo.

      While I agree that the lack of the turbo is disappointing, for most shoppers, the appeal of a Tucson was it's style which is better looking than most in the segment, it's reliability, very friendly interior layout, and a lot of standard features. It'll still sell fine but some Auto enthusiasts like you will be disappointed although I don't know why you would consider an SUV in the first place if you're looking for driving fun

      Austin Rice I’m spoiled my daily is a golf r :-). I’m not expecting that kind fun per se in this class but every single suv in this segment has nothing exciting or sporty to offer other than maybe the CX-5. The 1.6t added s little excitement, something different. The thing is each suv has something that makes it stand out , RAV4 , reliability , CRV, cargo space & fuel economy , CX-5 sporty dynamics , 2019 Tucson ? Good looks? Potentially, but that’s subjective.

    Salesperson: oh yes we’ll this one has 164 horsepower but with this new touch screen it might as well be 300 horse power.....
    forget about merging onto the highway...because you can find restaurants near you with apple car play.
    Buyer: oh hell yeah, apple car play on a 7” screen, this thing is basically a Mercedes, I’ll take it. So how much does it cost?
    Salesperson: that depends, how much do you want your payment to be....? Hehe, these screens are genius, does absolutely nothing but now we can sell cars with tiny engines for more money because it has “technology”!

    earlier this year, the 2018 introduced the 2.4 engine.. they had 3 motors for a while..Guess the 2019 just dropped it. Before, the 2.4 was only in the Sport model. kindof like the middle trim

    • @JakeDrives1
      @JakeDrives1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Refinement and drivability issues with the 1.6t/DCT along with customer complaints led to this shift. I can see why they did it, I test drove the 1.6t with high hopes and I hated everything about it. I'd be open minded to driving the 2.4.

    • @Reaper1008
      @Reaper1008 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree 100%. I drive all kinds of cars before they are sent out to dealers.. I mentioned a couple times how with the 1.6t and the dct didn't work well together.. At times when I would accelerate, a moderate acceleration, the car would bog down... like it was a manual and you didn't give enough gas off line..

    • @MDKN22
      @MDKN22 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      JakeDrives many don't understand how it actually drove, which is why people hated it. I like my turbo Tucson because it is pretty well refined... the transmission has a little bit of issues, but as long as it gets me back and forth nicely, I'll take it. They should've reengineered the engine and paired it to the 8-speed in the Santa Fe.

    • @Reaper1008
      @Reaper1008 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MDKN22 yeah, not all that I driven with the 1.6 turbo was bad.. only some. I think it was just a bad batch from factories

    • @JakeDrives1
      @JakeDrives1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I mean, idk.. I've owned several DCT's .. I "understood" how it drove.. and I hated it.. because it wasn't good.. AT ALL. Thankful for these improvements. I will test drive the updated one so I can stop hating it, because the rest of the vehicle is quite decent. I'd definitely choose it over a CR-V or RAV4.

    My question is why and why was the 1.6 liter-GDI/7-speed DCT power train removed for the Tucson 2019 models? (179HP/195 LBS./FT.). Hyundai's power train engineering division should had further improved the current setup by increasing the power/torque figures and additional programming to the power train's software and other possible technical enhancements. Now power and torque figures went quite down which increases the weight/power ratio and therefore will eventually decrease fuel mileage figures, driving and acceleration performance. That's my assessment but I might be wrong but man, I find unfortunate Hyundai's decision for this power train swap.

    It looks pretty decent on the outside, but the interior and powertrain could use some work. Poorly integrated infotainment, and insufficient power from the 2.4L engine (RAV 4 gets more power from a NA Engine of the same size).
    After seeing what Hyundai did with the Kona, I expected better from the Tuscon. I hope they put the Ioniq hybrid system into this car for the extra boost and improvement in fuel economy. That would atleast provide an alternative for RAV4 Hybrid shoppers.

    • @rlsuarez65
      @rlsuarez65 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would agree the Santa Fe is closer in both size and price, but I think having the Tucson is also a good strategy for Hyundai. The CR-V and RAV4 have gotten so big they kind of lose the appeal of a small SUV for city driving that you can easily park.

    buddy the dct was absolute garbage on the Tucson. Especially in 2016. My god the stuttering was absolutely horrible. I work at the dealer so I drove all models. Surprisingly the dct in the Elantra sport is kinda fun and doesn't stutter as much. But the Tucson's was horrid to say the least. I dont even know why they're offering the 2.0l anyways. It's so weak for a car of the size.

      I actually think the 2 row Santa Fe is a better comparison to the CR-V and RAV4. When you look at the cargo space and the pricing, it's in line with them. It's good that Hyundai also has the Tucson so you can spend less money and have something that's easier to park.

      The RAV4 and CR-V are hideous and no more practical than this car. it's not falling behind at all, it's perfectly up-to-date with the rest of the competition. also Hyundai reliability has been excellent and Hondas has been down tremendously over the past decade.

    • @joshuar4535
      @joshuar4535 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Austin Rice Looks are objective. As to practicality. The Tuscan is 7-8 cubic feet smaller than the CR-V and Rav4, with the seats folded up. The gap increases with the seats folded down, with the Tuscan being about 12 cubic feet smaller. I'm not sure if it would be that noticeable in daily life, but technically the Tuscan has less cargo room. Reliability is really a wash, depending on the vehicle. I've seen very reliable Hondas, and Hyundais that have been complete lemons.

    points you missed while going over the dash controls what is new vs the 2017 ultimate .
    Auto brake hold, electronic brake , and then you mention lane keep , but lane keep was on the 2017 and now in 2018 land keep assist which actually pulls you back into your lane. IMO Hyndai got rid of the dual clutch because of the complaints of overheating in rush hour traffic. However IMO a 6 speed automatic sucks, and I am sure has a crap load of rev hang . You did mention adaptive cruise control and the wi fi charger. ALso there is no excuse Hyndai for not putting in AUTO up and down for the passenger and back seats.. The NA engine is a step backwards for 2019 and so is the automatic 6 speed... The ford escape is still king with 2.0 echo boost and cargo space, with better tech.. The hyndai seats IMO is like siting on a Concrete SLAB . They do offer the best warranty in the business which you should have mentioned as well
