Good video Simon - im a huge fan of small mepps for trout! (The river local to me is fly only though 😒) I think spinning is looked down on by fly anglers as its a cheap and easy way to catch good fish... Keep up the good content!
isnt it funny how us lure fishers get scoffed at by the same people thatll let a salmon be throat hooked on worms or a prawn, i hate fishing snobbery, great vid mate
That's strange. Here in Texas, people who use artificial baits are generally more respected for it. Live bait is seen as "the easy way". Fly fisherman basically don't exist here unless you're in East Texas. After all, a 10lb leader isn't gonna cut it if a 70lb catfish or 300lb Gar grab your hook
Size 20 barbless a small float and 2 maggots is my easiest way to catch trout with the bonus if their deep hooked the hooks so small it does minimum damage to the fish. Never had luck with spinners I'm convinced the trout in the stream don't feed on fry much because only ever caught 2 which coughed up fish. Good fishing man 🤘
@@castnorthangling5964 I'm a use everything fisherman lol always have flies, lures and bait on me. But if ya don't strike first nibble i find they swallow it deep.
Enjoyed the video. I love using spinners but don't do it very often. I wondered is this type of spinning as effective on the daera waters that have stocked rainbow trout in them. I will be over from England and would love to give it a try in June.
You’ll catch well enough with them. I like throwing a 2 and bring a mix of colours. With the stocked waters here you’ve a a good a chance of picking up a perch too in some of them. I used to grumble but anything that saves a blank is a bonus!
i done a poaching program on utv few years back with the head of DCAL at the time, do you do any guiding ? i know of quite a few good secret haunts if you wanna join
If your interested in the light style. I would recommend a rod around 1-10g and a 1000 size reel, I tend to use mono, the stuff I use is called method spin and is 5lb test.
Great video m8, the snobbery isn't needed in the sport, fish whatever legal methods you like belongs the waters club allows it, if your more comfortable with spinning and worms and enjoy it then go for it, if you prefer the fly then go for it, noone should look their nose down on any method, each to their own 👍
Smallest possible snap swivel (or without) with spinners from sz 00 - sz 2 work best for me! Even had a few grayling on them. Gold & copper for overcast or murky water and silver for sunny days and clear water.. If you can, cut the treble off them and replace with Inline single hooks, this will minimise damage to the fish👍🏼
@@castnorthangling5964 I'm pulling your leg :D I've swopped all my trebles for singles, that helps with snagging up. And to be honest, still most of the hits are hook ups. Same as before. This is on size 0 and 00 mepps.
Really enjoyed watching, beautiful river, stunning wild brownies, barbless hooks a big plus👍 thanks for sharing, tight lines
Thanks mate
Another great content! Keep up a great work work with your channel! I like it! 🎣 thx for a knowledge! Appreciate!
Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it
Rather than spinners I use spoons with good results, where is this creek at ?

Thanks mate, yea unfortunately it's all too common in Angling

Are you using ultra light rod?

I guess that's probably about right if your a bait fisherman, not something I do a lot of these days.
Must actually do a few sessions with it soon

Don’t mind the lure snobs use the right lure for the right situation. Spinners will always have a place in my trout box
Absolutely, I actually try not to use them as much now as I want to get better with other Lures but there is no doubting how effective they are
Where did you buy your lure and what kind
What size of mepp is that mate, and nice fish well done mate👍
Think it was a 00 mate
What river is that

Thanks mate, yes I think so. Just take a range of baits 😂👌

@@thelostpaddle310 I'd prefer to catch Perch all day than stockies but that's just me 😂😂, Perch are my favourite
Anything to save a blank! Thanks for the advice

lucky man with that river on your doorstep :) cool vid as usual mate
Thanks mate
Simon, just found your channel. Brilliant!. I'm just about to get back into fishing and getting myself setup. What line do you recommend? Braid etc?
Thanks Andrew, appreciate your comment.
What style of fishing will you be getting into?
@@castnorthangling5964 Hi mate. Spinning for trout initially.

@@castnorthangling5964 Thanks so much mate!
Do you use a leader while trout fishing mate or tie spinner straight to braid
I use a fluro leader yes, you should never tie a spinner to line or braid without a barrel swivel as it will twist it
@@castnorthangling5964 I've got some floro leader but it's 75lb rengerate probs abit heavy init mate
Yes absolutely, I use 0.10m or 0.12m around 3lb
@@castnorthangling5964 okay mate might just tie a svile to 30lb wire trace and then onto the spinner
great vid what spinners you using ?
They are hand made by a guy called Tomek Kurman, check his page on Facebook, called Bite me tackle
Does the type of line you use make any difference on performance and effectiveness? Love the video love the patter. Keep her up lad

That's it, unfortunately it's just part of it nowadays
Thats a brilliant spot. It's gone downhill in the last year or so though
What snaps do you use and what’s the best size to use for brown trout

Bravo 👍👍👍👍
should see the dollaghan and salmon leaping down at mollys , unreal
Cheese was always a killer bait for me in my local stream.
beautiful🙂
It's whatever you enjoy lad, I prefer euro nymphing on a 3wt, while craic. Still get ones that look down on that because it's not a dry fly, feck them
Always going to get this sort of thing unfortunately

You can here the birds 🐦 coming a live with the warmer weather
Great to see, probably snow next week though 😂👌
Simon!
also called, the most expensive way to catch trout :D
I mean with treble hooks!
Haha your very correct
