- Immigration is a central theme in British politics with the Conservative government taking a hard line against people seeking to stay in the country.
The opposition Labour Party says it too wants to reduce the number of arrivals, but with different plans.
Yet, despite the negative political climate, net migration in 2022 stood at more than 600,000 people, a record level.
Why is there such political opposition to immigration in Britain?

Beacuse we've extended our generosity far too much.
We have immigrants who don't share values of this country, some who outright despise democratic and liberal ideas.
Many have little to no working expertise and live off the welfare system.
I think immigration is needed, but we definitely need to vet the people who are allowed to come.

Brits are upset bc companies prefer to recruit foreign workers who earn 20% less than the average wage instead of upskilling the over 5 million Brits who are currently not working. These foreign workers earn so little that their tax contribution is almost insignificant yet they bring with them dependents who put pressure on public services and infrastructure, e.g: housing prices are through the roof now, the NHS is overwhelmed, etc. When ppl see their living standard being affected, surely they will speak to their MPs. That's why the government is under pressure.

This is a blatant lie. Companies across various industries don’t have a union where they agree to pay foreigners less. Have you tried to see a specialist Dr recently? You’d be on an endless waiting list due to lack of Drs, despite the fact that there are tens of thousands of foreign trained Drs and nurses, many earn over £50k. Same with IT and Engineering expatriates.

But generally they are much more better than local population in the context of per capita contribution. Majority of the country mention there except special status like Ukraine or Hong Kong are good for the economy.
Use Qatar as a good example. It relies mainly on foreign workforce in every possible sector. None of them will become Qatari, doesn't matter how long they live in the country or contribution to community.

I see nothing wrong with the idea of Britian putting a cap on immigrants. They already have their own citizens as a first priority.

This wouldn't be a big-ish problem if the UK hadn't left the EU and also if the UK had a higher fertility rate like 3 children per woman, then this migration surge wouldn't be needed but oh well here we are. Also the UK needs a better social integration policy for integrating/(maybe) assimilating migrants into British culture in general. (though the UK would need to have to increase it's total fertility rate up to 2 children per woman or two live births per woman first plus improve it's economic situation. )
We have kids here that could fill those jobs given the opportunity unfortunately they are not because their are no proper roits for those kids to get into work after education because the kids didn't have experience how are they going to get experience? if employers kero taking in low-skilled migrant workers to pay cheap wages what chance does any young person have here if they are not given the chance I have a 19-year-old son I'm worried because there is nothing in place to support these kids to get in to work or even prepare them

@@chtadow13 stabilize the economy maybe have more kids either way the issue is unregulated migration. Migrants can be the best or the worst and if you can’t even decide which you get that’s at problem. Almost No country needs more unskilled young dudes that’s just asking for trouble in multiple ways.
People simply want to cut immigration despite any negative impact on businesses because it makes them feel better. But, if the politicians do that, then people will feel the effect in other ways of that decision and they will blame the politicians for that. But, despite this, some politicians want to take advantage of popular public opinion for their own narrow personal political ambition. This is the summary of it all. I say cut immigration to tens of thousands and let the public suffer from their choices. They are already suffering from BREXIT compared to the EU through the rising cost of living :)

@@YouYou-sm8tf Even bringing temporary workers is a form of immigration, I am afraid. Students come to this country for a temporary stay until they can finish their education. But the public here does not even like that. They just don't like foreigners here for any reason, even not as a tourist! :)
