    You couldn't play a better bass part for this song than this guy did! Guitar was awesome too but the bass was an awesome surprise.

    I saw Grissom play with Allman Brothers in 93 filling in for Betts who was in rehab . Grissom and Haynes were the guitarists. Did an admiral job as I remember.

    I saw David Grissom with Storyville at tiny dive bar back when "Good day for the blues" had just come out. Not 30 seconds into the first song the other guitarists amp crapped out and the tech never got it working again. David Grissom carried the entire show and killed everybody. I had never heard of him before that night but I walked away impressed as hell and never forgot him after that. Dude can play the geetar.

      interesting story - that's a shame they didn't get David Holt (the other guitarist for Storyville) up & running b/c he's an excellent guitar player, and the two of them together would've really blown your mind ...

    Love that bass player. Sounds like David has really found "his" tone and is getting what he wants from his gear. Sounds like a lot less gain than he used back in the 90's but it still SINGS like crazy. Love it.

    Jessica is not an easy tune to do even with a 7 piece let alone a 4 piece. Excellent version and tribute to the genius of Dicky Betts and also Les Dudek who wrote the tune but never credited (check out Les Dudek on Old Judge Jones). A tour de force. The tough part in this song (and yes the solo is hard of course) is the rhythm section. ABB had 2 drummers and a percussion in there and the counter rhythms are important for the feel but these guys pull it off. It helps to be them!

    I don't think that's honeyburst. I could be wrong, but looking at the PRS color chart, it looks more like yellow tiger. It's actually kinda brown in appearance. It looks honeyburst in the video because of the stage lighting (and my iPhone camera).

    • @jimlabos

      yes it is not an easy tune to pull off convincingly. All the parts are fairly easy but it's the making it all work together as one. That rhythm section is doing an amazing job of replacing almost 2 times the number of musicians on the original. Dicky would be proud.

    • @jimlabos
      @jimlabos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried Jessica with my buddies and although we had all the parts down and did an OK job it just wasn't jelling fast enough for me. The ABB had 2 drummers and a percussionist on this plus the advantage of overdubs in the studio. Don't underestimate this band doing it here. They are doing an outstanding job. The drummer is better than he sounds as the recording is not great. The keyboard could be louder and the guitar could be a tad louder at some points.
      For some reason this tune I find harder than let's say Memories of Elizabeth Reed. That one can be done in a trio and can still sound great but Jessica is more sophisticated and the timing and phrasing of everyone involved must be right on all the time and all together. If you miss a note or phrasing here and there it's a small trainwreck.
      Go check out other bands trying this tune live including the ABB (some of their versions fall flat and some are pure beauty) most of them are playing all the right notes but the feel just is not there. This version here is the best version I have ever heard after the studio version of ABB. Big shoes to fill.
