AS-186 style compressor. Sold under dozens of different brands. They come out of the same factory in China, which doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Great value.
Thank you @CFster for leaving a comment. Please subscribe if you haven't as yet.. It really helps the channel grow.
ah no wonder i see so many diff brand having the same AS-186 compressor with slightly diff pricing and i was wondering which brand one is the genuine one. i currently using a mini compressor and was considering upgrade to this but too many brands
@@MOS6510Models Yw! 🙏🏾
bought this 2yrs ago as my first compressor, fantastic ! only hint, on the bottom of the tank is a drain plug, once a month empty tank, remove plug and allow moisture to drain, coat plug thread in auto brake grease before refitting, if leaving for extended period do a drain session before starting, I ALSO gave ite tank a liberal spray inside of WD40 to protect against moisture created rust or corrosion.

You should never use oil inside compressed air systems.
I have one of these. Not a heavy user by any means but I'm impressed.
I picked mine up in early January. It's been used 5 days a week every day since. It's superb, and the only gripe is with prolonged use (like spraying a big fuselage in one hit), it builds a lot of heat and air pressure can drop off. With sensible use though, it's fantastic for achieving a great result without spending a fortune.
I paired it with the cheapo £23 airbrush, and that little thing has been a gem to use so far.
Thank you @fuelledfunny for leaving a comment. Please subscribe if you haven't as yet.. It really helps the channel grow.
Had the same heat problems and could't airbrush all day with it.
Bought a second larger silent compressor with 9L tank that holds up to 100psi.
The small one is now only used when spraying at night because it's quieter.
@@LemurKrazy Hi mate which compressor is the 9L one you bought?
Hi, thanks for this! My Iwata has almost packed up after nearly 20 years so was looking for its replacement. Saw the Fengada on Amazon & wanted to see it in action first. Obviously cheaper than an Iwata would ever be, but it looks very similar & as I don’t airbrush too often I think I’ll give this one a go now🤗 Nice review, cheers 👍
I have one of those compressors for two years now. Used regularly and for 1 to 2 hours at a time. Consistent and reliable and no problems so far 👍🏼

mines comming up to 15 yrs old , replaced the moisture trap and regulator last year as i broke it
@@pimpmydiecastsdiecastandto3176 that’s great to hear! Thanks 👍🏼

I've just got one due to this review. I'd been looking for a new compressor for a while and wasn't sure what to look for. Just gave it a quick psi test and found my old one wasn't even running at 15psi. The difference is very noticeable between the two and should make airbrushing so much easier.
Fantastic.. i felt the same going from my old compressor to this one
I have what looks exactly the same as yours... just a different model number. Mine is 189. I had another of the exact same model that, because of fear of airbrushing that got very little use over the 12 month period I had it. I treated it well ie emptied the tank after every use. A few weeks ago I stopped prevaricating and started to use it. However, I found that, sometimes, it wouldn't stop filling the tank. I would then turn it off, expel some air and turn it back on. It would then be okay. I then noticed rust in the water trap. Luckily, the guy I bought it from replaced it without quibble.
I turned on the new one and, lo and behold, the bloody thing had the same problem with not turning off when full. It overheated and I was giving up the ghost. I gave it a half hour and tried it again and... it's been fine since.
Your review came out and I saw you expelling air from the tank via a release valve on the side. I used to do it via the water trap release valve. Could this have been the cause of my problems with the the first compressor.
I've had one, just like that for years now. Absolutely no problems👍
brilliant
Same here . 4 years spraying models . Consistent and no problems . Great .
I have this one it's been great so far.
cool
Hi MOS, firstly, thank you for the stickers, they arrived safely yesterday. Also I have the same compressor and the 186k version of the airbrush. Been using it for the last few weeks and so far, I can't complain, does exactly what it says on the box.
Great to hear! where have you put them?
@@MOS6510Models on my spray booth
The reason they give a manual : The tank moisture drain cock is under the tank. I wouldn't keep using the emergency air release in case you damage it. Although I would check it annually. I'm surprised it's so quiet. My main compressor is much louder at my workstation and it's on a floor below me. Only one thing which eluded me does it come with a airbrush? You showed two of them but didn't mention whether one of them was supplied with the compressor.
They have sets with airbrushes.. i only bought the compressor to replace the one that was broken.. the airbrushes are fendga ]
@@MOS6510Models Thank you for the reply. I've ordered the compressor and theyh inclided a free Gun and cleaning kit. It cost me $114. More than you paid, but then we don't have the population the US has.
@@propfella thats good..
its a great little airbrush]
got what appears to be an identical model albeit a different brand name and it's been flawless to date. Compressors are simple tech which doesn't require precision engineering (unlike the actual airbrush) so most brands should be totally fine!
Yes many have shared that they have different numbers
Thanks Moss, this is really useful to me as I keep pulling back from pulling the plug on a new compressor!

Hi! Nice video there. I still have a question, I dont quite get how you set the working pressure without affecting the already setted max pressure, with only one pressure adjuster that locks in. What I understand is that you can set the max pressure to be for example 3,2bar and this will be the pressure the compressor tries to reach all the time. But then you can also set a working pressure, for example 1,8bar. This is the interesting part for me and many users I guess, so that the compressor is not working all the time. I asume that the pressure drops with use until it gets to 1,8bar, moment in which it builds uip again until it reaches 3,2bar again.
My question is how do you set those separatelly? Sorry for the long text. Thanks in advance!
Use a mac value is a good solution
Nice little compressor from a company in The NL. They have two brand names, Fengda and Airgoo (you can see the airgoo paper with the help-line phone numbers you pulled from the box when you opened it).
Fengda compressors are being phased out by the Airgoo AG-326, which has same price, similar specs, better cooling with dual fans. Local stores stopped getting the FD-186, FD-189, AS-186, AS-189 because the new AG models don’t overheat that much.
Yes i was told that a few weks back to look for the dual fans.. that said the one i have doesnt seem to overheat as yet.. but i havent started on a 1/24 for a while lol. Thank you Dimitrios Topouzidis for leaving a comment. Please subscribe if you haven't as yet.. It really helps the channel grow.
Had an FD-186 coming tomorrow, just cancelled it in favour of the AG-326, ended up the same price. Thanks for the information!
This showed me how to regulate the pressure (pull the nob up). Cheers buddy.
haha,,
Hi mos I've had the same one for about 5 to 6 years and have had no problems with it so hopefully yours will be fine as well
thats good to know lol im very happy with it
I have that compressor really like it

I got he same compressor and it works always like it shoult be working. Longer AB session will heat up the compressor a bit. Like Trailers on 1-24 scale. I live in spain, and in the summer i use a cheap click on fan to cool it down a bit. Make good use of the waterfilter and after you stop, take out the plug on the bottom. Then the moist cannot provoke rust on the inside. Using it now for more than 2 years and it was every penny. Bought it then to don,t break the bank starting airbrushing. Leveled up the airbrush in that time. But still use the one who ncame with the kit and a fengda with the self centering nozzele. Good workhorses and when you clean then good they will last. I hope yours will last as long a mine.

I had one of these a few years back. The compressor ring wears out after some time and will not come up to pressure. You can get spares but they are not easy to find. My friend had one and the tank rusted through. However, they are a good way to get into airbrushing and are nice and quiet.
Do you mean badger?
@@jaws666 it was the 186 compressor.
@@stuartsteel1 must check what 1 i have...mine is still brand new in iits box and NEVER been ussed ........yet|
Over here (Canada) parts can be bought online, including the entire gauge assembly and tank. The bottom drain plug should be taken out after depressurizing the tank. Any water will drain out, and leave it over night to "air" out. No rust issues with mine.
@@garfieldsmith332 I had to get my compressor ring sent to the UK from Germany.
Thank you. Loved your video. I have 4 compressors and currently neither work. I do airbrush tattoos and I have a corporate event this Thursday 11 July. I can't work out the hose connection. You did mention it but I could do with a more detailed instruction. My hoses have a thin end to screw on to the airbrush and a fat end for the hose to attach on the compressor. What adapter am I looking for? HELP! :0 x
5/8th thread i believe
I've had one of these for years, it's never let me down(touch wood)
Glad i have bought one now
Hi Moss, still recommend it after a year?…Thank you!
Yes I do! still going strong.. saying that, i have been given the latest one for review,... watch this space :)
Very helpful review & comments. 👍🙂
Glad it was helpful!
Good to get a cheap one too if you're just starting out with air brushing. You can always get a more expensive one later as and when your technique improves. If you /don't/ get on with airbrushing you haven't lost much on trying it out.
Agreed
You're compressor is a good compressor mine is so quiet it's quiter than my spray booth 🤣
Yes, same here.
Great little compressor but it does get quite hot with continuous long sessions of spraying.
Thanks for the comment :)
Heat cannot be helped.
Compressing air creates heat.
When it stops pumping up to pressure, does the switch light stay on? Does the motor fan stay on? I imagine the motor fan is connected to the motor shaft and only runs with the motor spinning. Thx for the “To the point” review! Cheers mate, from across the pond! 🇺🇸 🇬🇧
Yes it does it has an auto stop and start function
Great video thank you. When I'm spraying the pressure doesn't last very long (5 minutes) then I have to wait till it builds pressure again? My is FD-189 with two portions switch 1 automatic at 3 bar and 2 at 6 bar auto cut off .
I'm spraying doll parts but can only manage 2 or 3 parts at a time. According to the owners manual it says use setting 1 at 3-4 bar. In your video I noticed to let it build up first and after cutting out at 4 bar you adjusted the pressure down to 15-20 psi how long should that tank full last? And can I continue to use while it builds up again? Thank you so much
Markus
If pressure is a problem I suggest cranking
It up around 25psi then use a Mac valve on the brush to lower the pressure going thru the brush
That said I haven’t noticed loss of pressure but i tend to spray in sections
just got mine today after seeing your review be trying tomorrow to spray some of my model cars planes boats I wanted to know do you have to turn the vale up to 4 bar or does it automatically do that and cut off. 😊
its auto cuts off to the desired pressure mate]
@MOS6510Models ok thank you 👍🏻
I have a sparmax MAX-3 airbrush and i was wondering if it would work with this compressor. Also if i need a specific hose. I am new to the hobby so some help would be great thanks :)
Yes would work fine with connections

no.. it was just the pressure was way high
@@MOS6510Models ahh ok, thanks for the replies!
Guys, what if I buy this compressor and Giraldez Infinity brush? Will it be nice combo?
yes a good combo
Hi sir, do you empty your tank when you are done with painting?
Sometimes
That such a good bargain for the use 👌
Nice one, Mos 👍, for the price not bad at all, bargain 👍 I myself double cylinder version for not much more than you paid for that one that I got on a black Friday deal 😀
But your tastes in air brushes is awesome . I have the same infinity, which is the best by far 😉👍
cool.. ill look at that other one
A great place to buy a compressor and more is spraygunner👍
Absolutely
So as a complete newbie to this, are you able to explain why you reduce the auto cut-off down to 2bar from the 4bar?
Yes pull the black tap up and then turn it to desire pressure then push it down to set it
@@MOS6510Models thanks for the reply, I meant why do you do it rather than how. Your video was great at showing how it all worked I just wasnt sure why you did it. Was it because the air pressure at 4 bar was too high?
@@Viqer_Fell I just prefer that pressure. Some go even lower

Hi!
I just purchased the FD-189 newer model. Your video title can easily be adjusted for FD-186 AND FD-189... with the exception of the ON/OFF switch. It's a three way swith with position one (for airbrush use), the OFF position, and position two. Position two is used for airbrushes or whatever that need 6 bar (239 lb/psi) . It's my opinion that you'll reach more viewers this way if you change the title of your video and maybe add a voice over what concerns the switch difference. Other than that, nice video.
P.S. The instructions with the FD-189 already explain the switch difference. But maybe that wouldn't be explained by the sellers or other videos on TH-cam... I haven't run into any yet.
P.S.S. If your viewers don't need that extra 6 bar, than your model is more than adequate.
Thanks for the extra info. sadly i cant edit it once uploaded.. but im tempted to buy the newer compressor and review that one too! Thank you Ed Wouters for leaving a comment. Please subscribe if you haven't as yet.. It really helps the channel grow.
@@MOS6510Models- Thanks for the quick reply. Can't you remove (or delete) the video? Change the title and add the voice over? Reload it. It would be helpful, don't you think?

It's not bad. Until you remember that it isn't professional tool.
Saying this is a review is bullshit, unboxing at best.
I’m sorry but save up your money and get a sparmax air compressor tc-610h . Yes three times the price of that one but when you invest in quality products they will last forever. Buy cheap you buy twice, just like airbrushes
The Sparmax is an AS-186 style compressor underneath as well. They all come out of the same factory in China.
Mark look at your model number do it look familiar ... sorry you got robbed for a brand logo
@@CFster totally correct mate i dare anybody to prove us wrong .... i will put my money where my mouth is i am so confident .. not even bookies would take that bet
@@CFster Sparmax TC-610H are made in Taiwan. I do not know where their cheaper models are made. The do have the same design as all the other compressors in the low end range.
@@garfieldsmith332 ever look at one with the cover off? The motor/compressor and tank are identical to the inexpensive units. Some hole placement in the tank and vent holes for the electric motor. Most of these 186 style compressors are configured slightly different - power switch, pop off valve, pressure switch in different locations but they’re all mounted on a unit that comes out of China. Companies like Sparmax import them, paint them, and put their own parts on them.
On another note, I have one very similar to the unit reviewed here but the power switch is in the front. Makes no sense to put it in the rear.
