    Hi, Friends! I am very aware that the background music levels are a little high. This was one of my first times using this editing program in this way so there was a bit of a learning curve. Secondly, THIS VIDEO IS NOT SPONSORED in any way (I wish it was though!). As a former longtime Container Store Employee, I was happy to take advantage of the generous discount that was given to us and recommend their amazing products for no compensation or commission and I am not affiliated with TCS at this time. Thanks for watching and leaving your nice comments! I appreciate it more than you know! Viva la Small Space Living! :)

      Please make one change just for safety's sake. And believe me, I didn't think of it either until our real estate agent/broker who is also a long-long time friend told me when we moved into our new home. She gave us this nice wooden key holder plaque that has a section in it for the family photo in front of our new home Well, it was a fixer-upper, not new but it was new to us & we didn't have to hang the bassinet, crib, changing table, diaper genie, chest of drawers, or dresser from the ceiling. We had a house! The house I lived in before we bought this one was some 700sq ft if even that large. It was aq 2-bedroom & our oldest daughter was taking up the 2nd room & it wasn't big enough to cuss the cat in.
      Never hang your keys near the door like that. Anybody can open the door & swipe the keys. Attach your key holder to the other way further away where someone's arm can't reach through to reach it. Or, pick out a dish or buy a valet tray for the tablet near the front door but not too near the door.
      We have gone from using a leather valet tray to using a decorate bowl. Much of the reason for the change up was an increase in my keys - well keychains actually. Also, when we check the mail, we sort out our mail from my MIL's mail & it's placed in the dish for my husband to take it to his mom's house in the mornings. I had a narrow half-an-oval table that fits perfectly against the left-side foyer wall almost where the foyer, the door frame to the living room, & the hallway off to the right. The decorate dish has been there since about a month after we moved here, tho it isn't the first decorate dish I've used. The dish was actually taken up for about 2-3yrs when our youngest was starting to toddle. She kept taking my keys during the day and then grabbed her dad's keys after he came home. We got tired of hunting down our keys. The key hook plaque our realtor gave us was installed in the kitchen where the doorway goes from the far side door that opens into the spa room. (it's an actual wet room w/a 500gal spa, a commercial exhaust in the ceiling, wet protectant flooring, paint, etc... and it has a nice thermopane style window in the room where both sashes open & close & pull down for inside & outside glass cleaning from the inside with a full screen. It was the 1st window to get the new thermopane windows; the rest followed in short order. We hung our keys on the wooden plaque for the years we didn't have the valet in place in the foyer. The picture we used was one taken of our youngest when she began toddling. She was holding onto a chair in nothing but her diaper (again - I didn't think that kid would ever stop stripping!), when she lifted her foot and gingerly tried putting her tiny foot in his giant shoe! I don't recall which of us caught it but it was priceless then & still is today.
      I went from a rather roomy townhouse to a small 700sq ft to a 1600sq ft house. I had to scrunch everything into a small house after the townhouse then sprawled since we bought our home. Still boggles me how I packed up & moved all the time (6x in 2yrs once). I can't imagine packing up this huge place. Oh, I had a drawer cabinet like the one you use in the laundry space. It sat btw the front loading washer & dryer we had before they quit working. The thing I love most about the laundry room is the long pole that's installed w/a shelf over it. This space is perfect for hanging clothes on racks as soon as they come out of the dryer. It's also great for hanging items that are hung up to dry.

However, it's not necessary that you shop there to be organized. I hope you enjoyed the video and it gave you inspiration in spite of the amount of TCS products featured! :)

    Inset shelves and wardrobes in alcoves with the shelves/ cupboard space to the ceiling is great. Ottoman containers are my favourite because of the dual purpose. I also have a tall boy set of drawers slipped into a very small space between a window and a wall in my bedroom. My son has hammock containers for his toys off the ground and I can see what we have without rummaging. Hammock storage holds bulky items without increasing the space needed and take around ten kg I moved my boiler into the loft which gave me more space and even lowered part of the ceiling in my stairwell so I could store above it. I store cold drinks in my garden in winter.
    My son has a loft bed which is large and which he reaches by a ladder, underneath he has a low wardrobe and chest of drawers and he can lounge around on his bean bag without his bed taking up any room.

    What a helpful informative video. I especially liked the signage. Sometimes when folks mention a product, I have to repeat the segment over and over to catch what they said. Not so with this video. She named the product for auditory people, then showed the product in print for the visual people. The icing on the cake was the linkage to the products below. Very nice job. P.S. I thought the music was fine.

      Oh of course! and I had no idea that the container store had those "freestanding" shelves; I thought they were all ones you had to mount to the wall. This is great news! And it gives me ideas for my next place. I"m a renter and this next landlord is a bit strict: no holes in the walls...whatsoever. so I have to be creative with using the vertical space. Thanks again for your awesome vids!

    • @TheOrganizedSoprano
      @TheOrganizedSoprano  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course! The Freestanding version of Elfa is pricier because it has to hold itself up, but I've moved this unit several times and it's worth the price (wait for the sale though!)

    I really wanted to get the shelving unit until I saw it was $1,909.84 if I did it myself. I also loved the trojan console table but it is $1,595.00. These are all great storage units for studios but outside my budget. I guess it is for the rich people who live in small spaces. :(

    • @TheOrganizedSoprano
      @TheOrganizedSoprano  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Phoenix something to note and also not very obvious in the store is that the shelving that was used in the video is the more expensive solid wood shelving (the Elfa decor line) from the container store. You can use their melamine shelving with the same rails and get a similar effect and is what I chose for both closet and desk/office space. You can also get the melamine shelves in a narrower depth, 8" , that the decor shelves don't come in. As a comparison the Decor shelf that is 12"deep by 24" long is $62 vs the melamine at $18. I've had the melamine shelving in the Sand color now for almost a year and I've been quite happy with them. It was a way to get the preferred Container store shelving system but still not spend a small fortune.

    I have absolutely NO idea where I got the idea, but for less than a dollar @ Walmart and a dollar @ Dollar Tree you can find mini "milk crates" with holes in the back.
    So I put Pin Tacks for your corkboard in the wall spaced for the holes. Instant cupboard shelf!! Then I placed small "bins" with contrasting colors for interest. I placed items in the bins.
    Instant organized little things in the "bins."
    In one I placed a coffee cup with spots and extra set of glasses. On top I used it as yet another shelf.
    Took up next to no useable room into INSTANT ORGANIZED ITEMS I NEED NEAR MY BED!!
    INSPIRED, I placed some on the wall in an unuseable tiny hall. I then put some plastic Locker organization bins on the floor. I placed a board from a shelf unit I bought @ Walmart that wasn't working as a shelf unit, another set of locker organizers, another shelf board, topped with a long low basket, a long Doller Tree long low bin, and the bins on the wall.
    I placed "Puppy Snacks" dog snacks in the cubby holes, medicine for my ADA Service Dog, and now he has his own PHARMACY!
    It cost me nothing since I already had everything.
    Now, with his teemy weeny "friends" watching his Pharmacy he is INSPIRED to take his meds, not that he ever fought taking them, but to ensure I did NOT FORGET!
    All of this in a puny house!

    Thank you for this. It really helps. My apartment is alot smaller than the duplex I moved from and my husband and I were panicking about where to put everything. We donated alot and still couldn't understand how we ended up with so much stuff, lol.

      +Hot & Spicy Designs Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! It's so hard to downsize but it's a great chance to get rid of stuff and it also realize how much you've accumulated! LOL

    The Elfa freestanding bookcase should really be securely attached to the wall. That will prevent it tipping over should someone bump into it, or there’s an earthquake, for instance. Better safe than sorry.

    • @TheOrganizedSoprano
      @TheOrganizedSoprano  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I don’t know exactly (I could look in our condo docs) but they are hardwood. They look awesome but they are VERY delicate! I had the first ding in the floor less than a week after moving in from dropping something and it’s happened several times since. I have been able to cover them up with furniture marker but I love and hate these floors Lol
