Chris, I am so glad to see that you and your family are back where you should be with your health! Thank you once again for taking the time to make this video , because it's an update to the one I watched back in, I think 2013, on a PreSonus about Drive tube switch out. Yes, it makes a difference on the quality of your equipment. Crappy equipment makes a harder and longer to process in post. Then you put in a lot of demand on your processor to crank out what you need and want when you really can't, because the inline signal was diminished through quality, level, noise, whatever. Good equipment in the chain makes a difference hands down. Thank you so much for bringing these models to light, as one day I too, will go back and rebuild my system when things are ready. It has taken me years to get to where I was because of money or quality availability. Thank you again for your time. Also, your son is such a star! He is a star in the eyes of young people that need to hear that positive message from the Lord. Amen! May God bless all of you.
I normally don’t vibe with hip hop production channels cause everybody trying to act like they a top 40 charting producer. I love how you keep it real, love your mindset with gear. Subscribed
Warm Audio WA12 MK2 (black). Best mic pre out there for the money. Trust me. Cinemag transformers, built in power supply, and built like a tank. Either that, or if you have a few more bucks go with the ToneBeast from Warm Audio. I've owned both, and nothing beats them for the price. Take my word.
Dude thanks so much I here so much bad about my avolon . A guy cam to record his artists vocals at my studio and was complaining about why you have this stuff I do it all in the box you must not no about audio. That I said well let's warm up the avolon and try it out. He was blown away. A lot of people who say they have a lot of experience have not worked with high performance proffessionlas and that's why they say all this crazy stuff. He talking mess t9 me about what I shouldn't have. Mean while I have worked with engineers who have Micheal Jackson Stevie wonder Royce da 59 and others its so crazy.
Wow, super impressed with the kids talents! I have the hardware, but about to buy the plug in just because i do Vo full time and occasionally travel and track while I’m away from home. That’s a good backup so my sound isn’t drastically different.
Hey man I see you just getting started on YT. Your mix sounds good bro. Keep it up. You seem like a good dude too. Def keep that up lol. Great opinion as well. Thanks for the vid
the best bundle ever was the didgi design bundle with mxl 990, monitors, protools, headphones, and the mbox mini ii interface that was the best bundle to have ever exist they should have kept making that for other people to enjoy it was $399!
Thanks for the comment. I stopped using cool edit pro years and years ago but I got some videos on Adobe Audition that is like the bigger brother and I have a great series showing how I record and mix from scratch. That show how I do that
I own a AVALON 737, as well as a bunch of other clas A preamps. out of all my other preamps (Neves, Trident, sytek, etc.) the Avalon 737 gets the most use. Sometime other preamps sound better for particular things, but the Avalon 737 always good. Especially with my U87. People who talk sh*t about it either don’t own one, or don’t know how to use it. FYI the EQ is AMAZING but The compressor is useless lol.
I've heard the compressor sucks. That's why I'd never purchase it. I like to build my channel strips with separate processors. Separate mic pre, separate compressor, separate EQ. Nothing beats doing it that way. Especially when each piece is quality.
comp is actually ok if you understand that the ballistics on the meter are slow. Big la2a fat vocals sounds are totally doable with it. At 3 db of compression on the meter you are actually getting more like 5 to 6, so less is more. The baby face mod to the comp is now standard on all units as well, improves the attack time.
The truth is.... if you love a particular piece of hardware (Avalon 737) that works for you, then get it and make yourself happier! But Bruh... we both know that none of that stuff has ANYTHING to do with a hit record or success. None! The key is to learn what you have... and spend the time, NOT the money to be dope! Because trust.... ain't nobody one the dance floor giving a damn bout how dope or expensive your preamp is. Not a single soul! If an avalon 737 makes you and your music better...then get it!! No doubt!! But don't get it if you think it's gonna make your music doper or even sound doper... because it won't bruh. Facts!
Appreciate the comment but for some it definitely has a particular sound that brings out the character in artist vocals especially females. This isn’t a video trying to get people to buy a avalon 737. This is a video explaining the importance of a preamp in your signal chain. If a persons music sucks then there won’t be a piece of Gear that will make it more appealing or sound better. If a person already has great music content and nice gear to polish the overall sound, then it’s definitely a must and beneficial
@@UnitedDestinyEntertainment I can respect that. Maybe an apollo interface with an Avalon 737 plugin (among countless more!) is an more affordable and versatile option. What are your thoughts on the uad avalon 737 plugin?

Make sure you purchase quality items. When you build like that you will beat out the Avalon every single time bro. Trust.
wassup bro i have a question...would i still need a preamp even if i had a expnsive interface like a apollo or audient...or should i get it to compliment them...i have a tlm 103 running thru a scarlett solo its not gonna cut it
Hi end interfaces have very good pres and converters. You don’t “need” an external mic pre, unless for some reason you can’t get enough gain from your source.
You don’t need an external preamp but if lowering your noise floor and increasing the db of your source without peaking in your daw while at the same time adding color and clarity is of interest to you, then I would highly consider it. I use the Avalon V5 thru a WA76 and into the Focusrite Clarette 4pre and it’s amazing. And I too use a TLM 103. I like the sound of the Clarette by itself but I loooove it with the ext. pre. I still want the 737 someday too tho
I don’t have a Avalon 737 but I do own a Avalon M5, is it worth keeping or should I upgrade. Does anyone know the difference between the M5 vs the 737, are the pre amps different? I usually pair my M5 with a TLM 193 Microphone and a Tube Tech Cl 1B.
I've heard of some people having issues with trying to use the Avalon 737 along with the Apollo. What preamp would you be using? I was using Saffire pro-40 until I had to upgrade my Mac and found out that focusrite no longer supports the pro40 and I have a tlm Neumann 102 and I'm looking to get a Scarlet interface or a Apollo interface
Nah, I'd rather piece together my own strip. Avalon can't touch my vocal chain. I run a WA12 MK2 black mic preamp from Warm Audio. Behind that I chain an LL2A compressor limiter from Little Labs. Then behind that I chain a Tonelux Eq5P equalizer (four band surgical EQ that can also be used like a Pultec EQ). Those 3 together cost 1,900 bucks. Much cheaper than the Avalon, but much better than the Avalon as a strip. Avalons are overpriced nowadays. Besides that if something goes wrong with the Avalon 737 you have to send the whole unit in. Just makes more sense to build your channel strip in separation. IMO
Nice!! So now, would you suggest purchasing a physical Avalon V5 and plugging that into my SSL2+ interface OR buying something like the Apollo Twin X QUAD and purchasing the Avalon 737 Plugin? (exclusively for Voice Over, rapping and singing vocals).
That is a great question. For convenience of price the Apollo twin with the plugin. But for the sound of the physical hardware I would get the Avalon. I love mine and it sounds great
Neumann mics are way overated as well. I'm going to invest in the Townsend Labs mic emulation setup, and that will be my forever mic locker. Have to fill up my lunchbox first, but it's coming. There's no mic cabinet that beats Townsend Labs. Period.
My dream vocal chain setup is: dual Townsend Labs L22 Sphere microphones, dual Camden 500 preamplifiers (-129 dBu A-weighted EIN, RMS; 150 Ohm; 60 db+ gain), 500 series 2-slot rackmount 1U chassis, RME 9632 PCI ADC/DAC/ADSP (113 dB A-weighted SNR), complete ITB (In the Box) Pro Tools and Nuendo DAW setup on a dual-socket Xeon workstation. My current setup is a Sony ECM-88 omnidirectional lavalier and ECM-680S stereo shotgun microphone, Sony SRW-9000 & HDW-F900R camcorders and SRW-1/SPRC-1 VCR combo units that acts as preamplifiers and ADCs, with digital audio output over embedded SDI or AES/EBU over BNC or DSub connectors, fed into an AJA Kona LHi A/D I/O A/V capture card which gets accessed by Voicemeeter Potato or Reaper for actual usage in my DAW.
