    • @SoniBrosInvesting

      Holding shares is when you purchase a company's shares and keep possession of it for however long you want. For example, if I bought 100 Amazon shares right now, then I would say "I hold 100 Amazon shares." Hope this helps! Let me know if have any other questions. :) Thanks for the comment!

  • @efilopialul2494
    @efilopialul2494 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've got a question. So a corporation may increase or decrease the dividends given to its shareholders, but do they increase/decrease before payment or after. For example. If a company needs to pay de dividends in 1 month, but during that month they do not make a profit, in fact, they lose money, do they still pay the same amount of dividends or can they lower it whenever they want.

    • @SoniBrosInvesting
      @SoniBrosInvesting  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So a company’s board of directors will meet to discuss its finalized income statement usually every quarter (every 3 months). Once they review the financials and realize that they have excess earnings, then they will declare the dividend and then pay it out.

    Is the amount of dividend constant? Also can a company retrieve or cancle its dividend all of a sudden ?

    • @SoniBrosInvesting
      @SoniBrosInvesting  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the dividend is not constant. The company CAN decide to pay out its dividend one quarter and then not pay one the next quarter if they want too. So yeah, it's the company's decision at the end of the day.

    If stock drop in price, does dividend pay will be lower too?

    • @SoniBrosInvesting
      @SoniBrosInvesting  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dividends are not directly related with the stock price. Companies choose how much they want to pay shareholders in dividends. Don't forget that stock prices fluctuate every second on the market. Dividends do not follow that same principle. It's a specific amount that the company decides to give its shareholder and can change when the company wants to change it. Heck, a company can stop giving dividends if they really wanted to. Hope this helps! Thank you for the comment :)

    Hello.
    I'm a bit confuse. Does dividend "repays" the shareholders it's shares?
    Or is it like "free money" like say income for shareholders?
    I'm sorry. Confuse.

    • @livin3179
      @livin3179 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HiatusMobs Dividends are like free money as in income OR free shares, which you can either sell off for their cash value or double up and re-invest in the company.

    • @jackarf1
      @jackarf1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Think of dividends as an "I-owe-you" note. You lend the company money (buying shares which gives them more money to work with) and in return they pay you a percentage of their profits back. Sometimes they'll pay you back in cash and sometimes by giving you more shares (which you can turn around and sell as Isaac Simpson mentioned) or simply keep them and hope to get more dividends on those shares as well.

    My question is HOW do you know the company pays an amount

    • @SoniBrosInvesting
      @SoniBrosInvesting  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question ale rodz. There's two ways you can do this quick and easy. 1) Go onto Yahoo Finance. Search up the specific ticker you're looking for or you can type in the company name in the search bar. Press enter, and you should see the company's information and a few charts. In the Summary tab, you'll be able to find a section that says "Forward Dividend & Yield." The first number is how much the annual dividend is and the second number in brackets is the dividend yield.
      OR,
      2) If you are given the dividend yield, then you can multiply the yield by the current stock price to find out the annual dividend paid out by the company. The dividend yield is easy to find on Yahoo Finance or Google Finance. Give that a shot and let me know if you have any other questions!! :)

    So if an investor buys $100 of shares & gets .25cents return quarterly ($25 every 3 months) he earns $100 profit. Then once investor cashes out, he collects his initial principal + profit = $200 ...sounds like sonis are loosing money

    I have TEGBX that pays me a reinvested dividend of about $325 a month but ive noticed that almost always the days after the value of the bond goes down say $400 -700 Am I getting hosed on this bond? Expense ratio 1.39% They make about $2100 a year to manage the money and I make about $3200 a year. Is this a bad investment

    First, there are Brokerage fees for buying/selling shares, and there is a tax bite for capital gains. So it's not cut and dry as you describe it here, but yeah your right. You'll find that the trading platform is also quite complicated also. Most people don't have the stomach for buying stocks, cause there worried about how much they will lose. My advise is don't listen to anybody for finaical advise when it comes to buying stocks, it's high risk!! It's all up to you; It's your money; but don't expect to get rich quick, that's the trap most fall into.Mistakes will happen, but you can learn from them.
