You probably should've gotten the bow of shadows since it is the most broken bow in the game and you can get it for little effort. That way this area wouldn't have been as difficult

I've done 6 playthroughs, and it was only on my 5th that I finally took on the Maze and what a bizarre but cool experience that was.
