  • I spent a few hours exploring around West Palm Beach Airport, PBI, my favorite airport in South Florida.
PBI is not too big where you’ll be overwhelmed by passengers and congestion.
Major airlines like Delta, American, United, Southwest and JetBlue all fly into and out of here.
Although there aren’t many nonstop flights if you’d like to get out to the west coast of the USA, but for convenience…all of New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC are covered.
And then of course you have the hub cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas and Chicago that have flights regularly scheduled throughout the day.
I walked inside PBI which features 3 main concourses situated right next to each other, so you don’t have to walk far to arrive at your gate.
There are just a couple of restaurants and shops before and after security. This definitely lends itself to a smaller, homelier type of feel for an airport.
I’d classify PBI as a medium sized airport. It’s not a regional airport, but it’s nowhere near the size of Ft. Lauderdale- FLL and Miami (MIA) who offer plenty of International flights.
For Economy Parking, it’s only $7 per day which is fantastic compared to Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) which has $15 per day for their “Long Term” Parking Lot.
From the Economy Lot at PBI, you get a terrific perspective of planes departing right over your head. If you have the time to hang around, it’s fun to watch takeoffs for you airplane enthusiasts.
I also discovered a small park located on Perimeter Road for worthwhile plane spotting. There was no name for it, but if you casually drive along Perimeter Road, you can’t miss it.
Here at the park, there are some picnic tables if you’d like to eat lunch and watch the planes take off. Though, it’s very noisy with the passing cars of the highway making it not too pleasant.
But if you’re here to watch planes, I think you’ll appreciate the views. They are undisturbed with only the fencing getting in the way some.
Still…if you have a professional camera with you, you can capture some nice shots and much more clearer sights and sceneries than the iPhone 14 I was using.
In the end, for me, it was okay to spend a few hours at PBI. I’m an avid traveler and I enjoy just hanging out at airports in general.
It’s possible I may do another recording at FLL in the future, where I believe you can get much closer to the planes for better views.
Thanks for taking a moment to watch.

    Where is that park located?

It’s on Perimeter Road, near Southern Boulevard and across from the airport.
If you can find Perimeter Road and drive around, you’ll discover the park, though I couldn’t find a name for it…even on Google Maps
