    I built those trailers for years, they are usually bullet proof, I’ve repaired many trailers, everything on them are replaceable. It’s a really simple concept. The wiring might be a little tricky, anymore they sell complete harness, good luck and great purchase, I’m a little concerned with the truck being a light duty, but your trailer is awesome!!

      @USAF99 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Agree with your concern, I came down here to comment the same. That half ton might tow it empty, but put 7k on it, plus the weight of the trailer....I wouldn't. Trailer will end up right back where it started. Hell of a score though!

    You are a very down to earth, honest builder. Thank you for sharing your victories, and the frustrations that seem to be a daily reality when growing a business and in restoring any type of automobile. It's great to see not just crazy awesome supercar builds. This phenomenal trailer deal is just as motivating to all of us regular wrenchers who are working to acquire affordable tools that are just as important to be able to handle all aspects of our projects big, small, cheap, or not. Lol. Thank you

    Awesome deal! The axles look good. Just get a new spring and get some new fenders. The hub is fine too. Just straighten the backing plate.

  • @michiganracer1181

    The axles are supposed to have a crown in them. I would think you if the spindles are good you could put new bearings, brakes, drums and use it. Pinning the fenders is a good idea if your hauling cars. At least the drivers side which you have to rebuild anyway.

  • @philtucker1224
    @philtucker1224 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    A good strong metal lock box up front for ratchet straps and a few wood blocks would be a good idea. If you’re planing to store it to the right hand side of your workshop.

  • @bushmagpie3312
    @bushmagpie3312 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Great deal, the axles have a slight bend to have camber for unloaded. Once you load the trailer they straighten.
    Your suggestion of removing guards is great as some vehicles are slightly wider than trailer. You will be able to load them then refit guards.
    The hubs look in good condition, I would change all the bearings due to accident to ensure reliability.

    Sweet buy! Grease all the hub bearings...nobody ever does it and that is the first part to wear out or break on trailers....besides lights.

    @shysgarage2405 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    That's a great win for that trailer even if you have to stick some money into it...
    It would not be money wasted if you got 2 axles, 4 steel wheels and tires, all lights, complete wiring harness, leaf spring kit. Plus doing some metal work... Only other thing to do is make sure that it is in square because of the accident and you will have a really good trailer for a long long time... 💯

    Just take the hub off and heat the back plate and straighten it. Maybe the wheel bearings on that axle. 6 lug is 5,000 lb axle, 5 lug is 3,500 lb axle. You can hinge the fenders at the front and once it is loaded jus fold em down. Less of a chance they fall off or go missing !

    That front Axle is definitely bent, you can see it in the video. And yeah Ben, the brakes are most likely locked up from the accident. Overall not too bad so at least you have yourself a good trailer in the works. The only thing is that you will be maxing out the tow capacity on that truck. I would have looked for a rebuildable F-250 or 3/4 ton Chevy or Ram. But anyways, good haul and it will be nice to see how it turns out.

    great score, but I would recommend buying a new axle for the trailer if for no other reason it took a bad hit and it is never a good idea to use an axle that has been hit in an accident, you have seen yourself how many spindles have broken from being hit, this could have a crack in it that will give way under a load, another thing you need to consider replacing your steering boxes when you get a car or truck thats been hit in the tire hard, I have had a truck that was hit in the drivers steer tire that resulted in the steering box failing shortly after. luckily the driver was backing into a loading dock when the steering went completely out, just a word from experience with trucks and trailers, and yes the front axle is bent pretty bad, it should have some arch to it but compared to the rear axle it has a very pronounce arc to it. do whats right and safe!

  • @michaelkrause7672
    @michaelkrause7672 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Definitely a solid purchase. Guarantee if you shop around for parts, you should be able to easily stay around $1k-1500 all in on a $5000 trailer. I think if you're wanting to keep the little 2.7 eco, you might need to look into some bags or something for the rear. Those 150s squat something fierce whenever you put any kind of weight on the back.

  • @jhambone9190
    @jhambone9190 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hell yeah. That is a steal.
    Like you said, those axles are far back. Going to have to watch the tongue weight.

    • @philtucker1224
      @philtucker1224 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the same? Maybe Ben could bring the rear axle forward in front of the first axle and balance the weight better that way? (I don’t know)….

    • @jhambone9190
      @jhambone9190 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philtucker1224 Might as well, then he could build the trailer around the payload of the truck towing the trailer, (especially considering if he needs to replace an axle anyway.) Just my opinion but I'd replace both axles. It would really suck and be extremely dangerous to have a wrecked/bent axle go out on a loaded trailer at speed or down a narrow road. you know, murphy's law.

  • @tdotw77
    @tdotw77 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great deal man! You can't go wrong @ $150 + fees, even if both axles are bent. Fix'er up & good to go with a little elbow grease & few hundred bucks!

  • @mkbarber65
    @mkbarber65 ปีที่แล้ว

    You might want to consider purchasing a weight distributing hitch for that trailer, it will definitely help the ‘squat’ of the truck and prevent swaying when you tow. We have a 31’ travel trailer and it’s a must with those. That box is a break away brake-in case the trailer comes off-get a new one as that one has lost its pull out key and the electric brakes will stay applied once you plug in the connector. Good luck with the trailer!

  • @ralan350
    @ralan350 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The axles are supposed to have a little bit of an arch to one that’s perfectly normal. It looks like all it needs is a new spring and personally I probably would replace the front axle just out of caution in case there is hairline cracks you cannot see where the brake bolts on I have seen the entire brake assembly come off going down the road due to stress cracks you could not see until after it came off

    Fantastic Steal on that trailer Bro! I would've paid quadruple without even batting an eye! Outstanding! You should see if Sam would pick up one of those Manual Swap kits for the 599! it would make it so much cooler. According to Tyler Hoover and Dave from DDE it is the absolute best thing you can do to a 599. Plus I mean Gated manual is like a trump card these days lol. Knowing Sam or at least TH-cam Sam I doubt he'd be into doing that.Anyways I say the C8 on Marketplace. He's asking a more than fair price in my opinion it really is a damn nice car with a brand new trans. can't beat it. I saw the c7 on there too. I think it still has a lot of good parts. If you want I'll come there and strip it for you and list all the parts for you. I'm a disabled OIF/OEF veteran and I literally have nothing better to do with my time. I live in Hixson. Not a weirdo or anything like that. Been married for 19 years and have 3 teenagers and cars and automotive in general is basically my Passion. All I do these days is sit here in front of the TV so I'd be more than happy to come strip those cars for you and list all the parts. I'm a half way decent mechanic too. I would at a shop for a few years after I got out of the service there isn't much I can't do when it comes to them except body work. I don't know much about it aside from what I've learned from you with your projects and when you help the Boys over at Goonzquad. Also, pretty limited knowledge on electric cars. Some especially like mechanical Components but not nearly as much when it comes to fixing ESC's and Batteries and what not. I mean I can figure it out they aren't that hard. I really don't have anything else to do and I definitely could help you with a lot. I also have extensive knowledge with small engine repair as well. the last shop I worked at that was the focus like anything not car. so boats, lawnmowers, chainsaws, go-karts, basically anything. and anything that all that runs off gas I can fix. or part out. I'd be more than happy to bring my laptop down there and just start pulling parts off the c7 and any other of those cars you have down there and listing them for you. That's a good bit of money you could put back into your family and the channel! Also! I love your M2. So much. That's a dream car for me. I'd wide body it though and put a big fat single turbo kit on it and a bunch of other things but I hope one day when my kids are grown I can some how manage to get something like that. or maybe an M5 because yeah I would love one of them Just as much.
