Typically sub bases (more commonly called sea bases), are totally worth it. They appear in every tournament match, and are vital to getting a good supply of iridium. Only issue is, you shouldn't be taking 20 minutes. If it takes you 20 minutes, then you need to cut down the time, and think "why does it take so long. What am I doing wrong?". I would advise looking through some of my streams (not gamenight ones, as those have a bad way to sea base). Sea bases are only worth it if you can get one up and running in under 10 minutes, as they are extremely susceptible to attack (all projectiles such as rockets and artillery, can hit it from miles away). TLDR: They are worth it, just need to get it up quicker than 10 minutes, otherwise it could die before you get anything out of it.
I'm going to be covering that soon actually, but I'll give you a couple here: - any iridium put into getting more iridium is going to mean you have more iridium to play with. So getting an extra pump maxed out before getting a turret means you get that maxed pump sooner than you would otherwise, and tiny bits of that add up over time. -use your camera to change rotations. Don't use shift scroll unless you're in a confined space/limited vision. One example would be making a hidden spawn underground near the enemy, use shift scroll. If you were to build such a spawn above ground though, you should use your camera.

I dealt with this in a meme-y fashion when I was up against Recoil. Orbital shields spam is usually the way to go, mixed with cruise spam. Cruise spam can mislead the enemy to different areas of their base, giving you an opportunity to fight back. One such instance was me cruise spamming their stem, and then following it up with a lasetstrike on their skybridge. If the artillery are below spire height, the best thing to do is to try and disconnect the artillery, and then while the enemy is figuring out what is going on, you should try and destroy the artillery.
Try and think of things that will help you win the fight. Are they near any turrets/are they hiding behind cover? Could you utilise the turrets to apply more pressure to them? That's just an example, but there are countless ways this can be. Either relative to your base, or even with the environment. Try and get higher ground, as it will make it easier for you to headshot them.
I'm gonna guess that's the golden blocks you're referring to. Under military, there are buildings called Beacons. Beacons are placed on the control blocks (golden blocks), and are used to kill all enemy teams. When you build enough of them (usually 3, but sometimes 4), a countdown begins, and then it will repeatedly fire laserstrikes from orbit, targeting all enemy buildings, and typically means a win. It's meant as a game ender, and is therefore much more expensive than anything else in the game. Defend them well, for if they are destroyed, the countdown is stopped, and the game continues on.

@@TachyonAnnihilator downside is the time it takes without any interaction with the enemy, when your on a team you can get away with an early seabase easier but if your solo in a high rating game its a lot harder to pull off without the enemy team punishing you and destroying your above ground base and locking you out of the match while you try to focus on a sea base

Ooof Shield spam is a "passive" defence type. The best thing to defeat something like that when it's spammed is "passive" offence. Aka, bores. It's why one of the metas at the moment is borespam :)
